Cemu Thread: Emulating Wii U Games

I went into the first shrine but the game speeds up and I can't use the magnesis. This is an issue for everyone? Sorry I'm still catching up. Water doesn't work either. You can see it but if you jump in you just hit the ground and all the fish are flipping about lol. Also Link keeps sinking into the ground.

yeah that the same for pretty much everyone. google cemu botw a bit and you'll see the different groups waiting for the new CEMU release. Not that it will fix all of those issues, but they hope that it will fix all of those issues.

From what i have gathered the new release in the coming weeks (touch wood) will have fixed the magnesis and stasis runes (the ones you get in the tutorial shrines), that will allow you to leave the early area finally. It will also fix the grass (it now renders!), water (so you swim in it), sinking into the ground and some performance gains.

Color me impressed. Granted, the WiiU hardware never was high end, even at release, but they're emulating the game quite well for something that has been out for just a month. Seems within two or three months, playing BotW completely on the emulator might be feasible.

No kidding. I haven't followed this thread closely or Cemu much at all, but this is some seriously impressive work.

Hoping that the patch released on real hardware which seems to have improved performance will help BOTW run better on Cemu too, will take as many extra frames as I can get!

MapleTree. It will automatically create the correct folder structure and also allows you to download the patch straight from Nintendos CDN (which it will then decrypt so Cemu can use it). I think it doesn't remove the encrypted update files though, so you'll have to do that manually to save some space. https://github.com/Tsume/Maple-Tree/

Thanks for that, I'll look into it after I get home from work.

I used WiiU helper and downloaded the update. Followed a youtube video a while back that showed how to get the folder structure setup correctly. But having that automated sounds super nice.

Same.

Every time someone posts a GitHub link... "¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Check the release tab, you can find an installer or standalone version there. The app will guide you through the rest.

In unrelated news, I finally got Zelda shit to repack without the game freezing... (sarc pack, yaz0 encode, sarc pack with different nuances to each ugh)
Seems I broke the textures in the archive I repacked somehow but it's something.

So originally I dumped BOTW with the Day 1 update included, back before Cemu had its patching system in place where patches could be installed to another directory instead of directly overwriting the original files. Does anybody know if there will be any problems with starting to use the Cemu patching system now, starting with the new BOTW update, even if my base set of files is BOTW 1.1 and not BOTW 1.0?

I'm doing the same and it works flawless so far.

4k for Donkey Kong Country Tropical freeze seems to break the water texture. Does anyone know what format to exclude in order to fix this?

Oh yeah baby. :)

Physics, grass, water... everything's there now. Running 1440p (and 4K likely, need to re-download graphics pack again) @ 30fps (DLL hack for smooth framerate and .MP4 video playback still works).

My play-through of Zelda starts tomorrow proper.

How's performance? I assume you're using Cheat Engine and Cemu Hook to achieve that 30 fps?
I'm using Cemu Hook only (not sure if 'Cheat Engine' is part of that?).
I just fired up 1.7.4 quickly but it seems like solid 30 fps smoothness between shader compilation (I had that on 1.7.3). I will compile the 17K shader cache tomorrow, just testing quickly before retiring for the night. :)

You sure you got CEMU hook set up correctly? When I have it in the folder it causes new CEMU to crash.

Here's the 1.7.4 changelog:

Changelog:
Graphic improvements
Minor optimizations
First-time compilation of shader cache is now multi-threaded
Graphic packs can now modify texture formats
Bugfixes & minor new features

Wow. Didn't expect the updates to improve botw so soon. I'll have to homebrew my Wii U and buy a copy of botw to dump much sooner than I thought.

I like that the inventory menus are unlocked so that they run at 60fps+ (including quick weapon selection). Like Horizon Zero Dawn.

I would say ~28fps is where it's at most of the time for me. But it doesn't chop so it feels smooth enough and likely favorable to console version (from what I've seen on Digital Foundry).

Grass does add that missing richness to the graphics. Flowers cut up during combat etc, looking good now.

Man, there really is a lot of grass, isn't there? I didn't realise just how much was missing from 1.7.3 until I saw those screenshots.

I was messing around fighting a lynel in a section on the earlier grassless version. I finally killed him. I then updated, and I'm using the new version and BOY that area looks SO MUCH nicer. The grass is so full and thick, its really really lush and attractive looking.

Also, on 1080ti rendering at 5k I was getting about 38% GPU utilization, which is awesome.

For you.
Looks good. Are there any fundamentally broken aspects to the emulated version at this point? Seeing the ground physics fixed makes the game appear like the regular version but I haven't seen a breakdown of differences.

One of the major bugs still left is the camera rune not working properly. There is a workaround by faking some jpgs and injecting them into the game for the sections that require it.
