‘The Walking Dead’ – Season 7, Part 2 – Sundays on AMC

2. The worst part of the final battle was how Rick and crew appeared to be winning or at least holding their ground after the coffin debacle and zombie Sasha. Then the next thing you know, they are easily defeated and Rick and Carl are on their knees. Of course, don't wait to actually defeat everyone before giving a speech, Negan, as we still hear gunshots in the distance, just ham it up with the battle still apparently happening, but still victory was ensured somehow? And I think the problem with the whole battle is how rushed it was. You had so much of the episode focused on flashbacks, and of course setup (when the whole damn season was setup) that you had a rushed final battle that made no sense, from how quickly one side gained an advantage, to the silly and easy escape made possible with just a few homemade smoke bombs. Well hey, at least the season didn't end on a ridiculous cliffhanger, so there's that. And maybe things will actually happen next season unlike this one. They better, or ratings will continue to fall.

This is definitely the worst part.

And Rick not being able to take down the garbage leader when she's standing just one feet away with a handgun was just as bad. Everyone else used the element of surprise but Rick didn't? WTF was that.

Tbf rick just disarming her would have been somewhat ridiculous. Someone else popping her from afar seemed likely though.

That too. There were a ton of people with him on that wall including Carl but none of them thought to shoot at the person who has a gun aimed at their goddamn leader before getting off the fucking wall?

Fuck. I've never been so pissed off watching a show before. I think I'm done with this for good.

EDIT: I mean, I get they wanted to get Rick and Carl in that stupid emotional moment with Negan but they couldn't have come up with a less stupid way to get there? What kind of idiots do they have writing and directing this shitshow?

You'd think at this point some of the cast would have issues with the writing, like really, no one is going to shoot jadis? They all must realize the plot armor is so thick that rick doesn't need any help.

You'll be back

don't be so sure about that. it's been posted earlier in this thread that the ratings from last to this season have gone down.

while i do think the ratings will go up next season, this trend has shown that a good amount of the people who are frustrated have stuck to their word to either not watch or just care about this show a lot less

$50/hour, but no kissing on the lips and colors must be pre-separated
That final gunfight was Sci-Fy original movie bad. That Negan's middle finger didn't explode stray gunfire was a real missed opportunity at redemption.

I liked the last 20 minutes but other than that... eh. I'll still watch though, I don't think TWD is trash-tier yet.

Couple things:

1) People asking why they didn't shoot Rick or Trash Queen; it's pretty hard to shoot one and not the other in the middle of a huge gun fight.

2) People asking about da gawd tiger not biting Negan. I'm sure that proves that the tiger is just a tiger, not some homing missile. It honestly didn't matter who the tiger bit, it's a tiger. It's going to cause a distraction and then bullets fly (how the hell did no one see that tiger up until that point? again it wouldn't have mattered because they would have been distracted but still).

3) I honestly didn't see the betrayal coming. When Negan said "birdie" I was thinking "damnit Gregory" so the writers set a trap for me but I guess you guys didn't fall for it. Just a reminder that everyone watches the show differently.

4) Maybe because I don't watch American shows often and other shows have raised the bar as to what should be suspected, I thought while the overall plot didn't progress much, a lot of things moved forward in the plot character wise. Rick regained the 3 inches of penis he lost at the beginning of the season, Eugene went back to being my most hated character, Morgan went from MLK back to Malcom X, Carol put on her "I shoot kids in the face" glasses again, Dwight switched sides, Daryl (who I thought was gonna die this season) got out of the Sanctuary and back into Rick's loving arms, I /mean... things happened. I give the season 7/10.

I liked the episode but yeah that final battle was fucking horribly designed and executed. I don't even know when they grabbed Carl or why none of Rick's people thought to shoot Garbage Lady during all the mayhem.

No one saw it coming because it was contrived. They didn't foreshadow anything or drop any dumb hints anywhere. It could have been anyone with the kind of idiotic writers they have on this show.

They could have done all of that in half the amount of episodes they had this season. That's what people are unhappy about.

I watched it again and I agree, I'm wondering if the shows actors are getting paid so much money at this point they have little left over for the big set piece moments.

That being said I still love the show and will be riding it out to the end. Part of me wants this show to go on for several more years but the other part of me would be fine if they ended it after all out war with Negan and Rick and company finally finding peace.

Sat down and watched the final episode without having watched the last two seasons.

I will say from someone completely out of the loop:
Where are the zombies?
Where did they get cyanide pills from and how did they charge that ipod?
Are those guys with the tiger larping or something?
Why did no one shoot the tiger?
Why did no one just shoot the big bad?

And again, with all that gunfire and shit, how were there no zombies hearing it?
This is the same town they were in when they first got to that gated community like 2 seasons ago right?

Someone drop some comic book spoilers for me so that I'm not tempted to come back to this garbage fire. Gotta nuke this sumbtich.

edit: I spoiled some of it myself. That's really like whatever.

Yet another season passes and what really has changed?
They are in the exact same position they started the season in.

What a joke.
Yup, I tuned in for the first time since they met the tiger guy, and at the end that's all I got from it.
We are rewatching Shameless. Much better usage of time.

Determined Rick is best Rick.

I liked the episode but they gotta stop playing around with trying to kill Carl. They can't pull that move anymore. The season opener with Rick being forced to cut off Carl's hand is amazing and they know that alotta people loved that scene. AMC... you can't recreate that scene. Just cherish it and let it go.

Woah did not expect all the negativity in here.

I actually thought the finale was legit. Then again I never notice things like "bad choreography" or "bad cinematography" or whatever, so eh. This season really dragged and it almost turned into a hatewatch at some point for me, but it kinda redeemed itself during the last ~4 episodes (the one where Sasha and Rosita went on their mission impossible was trash though).

Speaking of trash I also really can't stand the trash tribe because of how fucking cheesy they are. They talk like cave(wo)men and they're even all dressed like trash bags. I can somewhat accept there being a group living in a garbage dump but they're acting like civilization stopped 3000 years ago. "Bring him up up up" was one of the dumbest thing ever coming from this show. Also what's with the Star Trek haircut of the leader and their super clean faces? They live in trash... Maybe it wouldn't be so jarring if there wasn't also a medieval clan with a freaking tiger this season.

The tiger is equally as unbelievable (how the hell do they feed it? how did it know who to kill? Why did no one shoot at it?) but it's a fucking tiger and seeing it tear people up in this episode makes up for it, lol. Sometimes I can forgive silly things in this show if it makes for good entertainment and not cringe.

I'll be on board for next season again. Tbh I don't get the complains about "ugh next season is gonna be Negan too". Everything's changed. They're at war now. Factions have joined forces, Morgan and Carol are back on board, Rick is back in the game and he's done with Negan's shit. Negan is pissed and I'm looking forward to seeing him pissed because I don't think he has been taking all of this very seriously up till now. I don't know what's gonna happen next, and I like that this season ended without a cliffhanger.

Bring on season 8 :)

Used to be a really big fan of the show, Season 4-5 were really quality stuff, with the usual stupid mid seasons pointless deaths or obvious setups.

Small, tight arcs like we had with the cannibals and TAINTED MEAT was where the show really shined. Things kept moving, danger was really felt and there was a good sense of shit going down on a regular basis.

Going to Alexandra and having the group deal with living like normal people was actually really interesting and showed great character depth and development, even though "nothing was happening".

Then we got dragged into the same loop of big season starts, meddling middles with a midseason fiasco, followed by the same loop in the 2nd half of the season.

I dropped the show after last seasons bullshit of literally teasing the audience with a death and cutting to black. I watched the first episode of this season and saw how horrible they mis-managed the deaths, literally trolling the audience for 20 minutes before the actual kill was seen.

It wasn't the violence that was the problem, it was how they treat their viewers like mindless idiots who will eat up their shit and ask for more. Obviously people still like the show, and that's fine, but what they did and what they continue to do is beyond pale and the show deserves to dwindle and die for the shit they pulled and continue to pull.

I watched the last gunfight and could only shake my head at how fucking bad it was. TWD was never known for it's huge firefights, but that was simply lazy editing and shooting.

For a show about characters, it completely lacks a sense of character, and that's why I've been out and will continue to be out. What a wasted opportunity

- Rick is a trained law enforcement officer that evolved into a max level ZA badass, he should've been able to Krav Maga garbage boss in his sleep and end up pointing the gun back at her or locking her arm out.

- Carl going John Wick was a good surprise.

- All of the cut away Sasha retrospectives were too much imo. We didn't need all that, and it crushed the pacing. One cut away retro would have probably worked just fine.

- The choreography in the final battle was surpringly sloppy, even by WD standards. Also, how do they have that many rounds of ammo to fire assault rifles and SMGs for as long as they did? They would've been going through mags left and right with all the fire we saw and heard.

- I liked Negan in this episode. He was an asshole to be sure, but entertaining as well.

- Dwight doing the long con was good.

- The loose tiger was hilarious. I mean come on, they don't come equipped with a friend or foe targeting system. He looked cool though.

- I laughed when Ezekiel said "Come join my regiment!", and it's only like 6 people walking with him, including the person carrying his battle standard. I don't know if it was meant to be like this, but I immediately thought of Don Quijote.

- Maggie's group kicking ass was good.

- More of the Alexandrians should have been wounded or killed in the fight.

- The garbage people are still rediculous.

It continues to piss me off that Rick winds up looking like a complete clusterfuck against Negan. Rick is supposed to be this badass, but goddamn is he dumb af and then lets trash lady hold him while the battle goes on around him without doing anything.

Just let Rick off the fucking leash already. Either that or stop pretending he's this amazing badass leader who can survive everything if he's just gonna wind up looking lame every time he plans something.

I will admit I was jumping up and down and tossing birds at Negan and his folk when the tiger came out of nowhere. I was so loud we didn't even hear what Ezekiel said but I was like "you should be shouting the same shit I'm shouting right now like 'fuck you Negan you asshatted biiiiiiiiiiitch!!!!!'" so we had to rewind it and what I was saying was better than the Aragorn-level blabber that he said.

I haven't watched the last two season either but I saw a gif of this scene on tumblr and was wondering the same exact thing. Like there were multiple people with guns and instead of shooting it they just ran?

Literally every bad person in that firefight was blind or amazingly inept because it was time for them to lose.

It just amazes me that Rick and Co. would trust Trash People at all.

There were a lot of mental gymnastics going on with this episode, but this was my biggest hang-up.

Ok, I understand the importance of the initial alliance and I understand letting them into your home as part of a plan to get a jump on The Saviors. I can suspend disbelief enough for that. But how Trash People managed to secure positions throughout the town to get the jump on everyone at that right moment either leads to complete incompetence on Rick and his teams' part and/or just poor writing.
We've actually experienced both of these in abundance in (enter season # here. I've lost track) seasons, so why am I even acting surprised? For some reason it still gets me. :p

Why in the hell wouldn't Rick instruct his people with: "We don't even know these people. They seem a little fucking nuts and they speak like goddamn cavepeople for absolutely no reason. Watch them. Keep them in front of you in case this is some kind of shady shit. If they even flinch to turn their guns on you, smoke them" Something like that. Or hell, don't even have them involved in the setting up of the explosives part of things. That seemed like such a key part of this big plan. I just don't understand how they were able to go behind every one of Rosita's bombs and disable them without anyone noticing. Or was it just Rosita's remote that was sabotaged? Either way... dumb move.

It just amazes me the amount of bone-headed decisions this group makes and the lack of consequences that come from it. Trusting Trash People should have led to a lot more meaningful deaths beyond just faceless red shirts. How many times can you have Rick faced with the death of his son before it just starts getting eye-rolling? I was actually sitting there counting the seconds until that last-second save happens.... and, of course, it did. A literal, unashamed 'last second' moment.

That said, I'm gonna stay on this crazy train. The sloppiness actually makes this show entertaining for me. If anything was going to make me throw my hands up and say "I'm done", it probably would have been Dale getting ninja'd in an open field by a zombie or Glenn somehow surviving 30 hungry zombies just because he had another dead body on top of him. I'm still in this! :D

Just two weeks ago, Sasha and Rosita abandon the perfect vantage point into a suicide mission because Sasha is now on Star Trek.

Best part of this episode, by far, was Negan reacting to Shiva. For once we see Negan shitting himself. That was worth the time alone.

I thought it was really really stupid for Rick to end up in exactly the same spot he was in in episode 1. Like holy shit how incompetent is Rick now? Just underwhelming overall. I wish they wouldn't have repeated the whole Negan scene, felt lame. But the kingdom jumping in was cool.

My Hot Takes.

1) The trash people will never not be stupid. I get the logic of why a group that doesn't have much would hide where no one would go, but everything about their behavior and speech is just the worst writing idea you could have.

2) They reached too far with Negan's villainous speeches in this episode. Probably trying to recapture the magic of his first scene, but it didn't work.

3) Having the reinforcements arrive simultaneously, but coming in unplanned and from different directions, is dumb, but that's a standard trope so they get a pass.

4) I won't give a pass to the suddenly terrible aiming everyone developed. Like an old GI Joe cartoon.

5) Negan giving the finger as they drove off was dumb, but in the right way. It worked for me.

6) They had enough happen to keep me coming back for next year, I guess, but I don't feel satisfied. They wrapped up nothing this year.

I think that the big action scene had all the right pieces in place, but the execution on the details really let them down.

Everything after ep1 was a setup for 16 episodes of war in S8. That's where we're at I think. I hope they end this shit at ep8 but they're gunna milk Negan all season IMO.

Agreed and yeah, it was cool (because Zeke and the Kingdom are fucking great and it's a tiger pouncing on people!~!), but it was also telegraphed so hard that you knew it was coming and it was just done in such a ham-fisted way. Ezekiel not wanting to get involved, then BAM! WE'RE HERE with Morgan & Carol leading the way also would have been contrived, but at least it would have added maybe a little surprise, some excitement, and an extra fist pump. Instead they show up and my mind immediately goes to "finally... and cracker jack timing!"
Their big surprise entrance just happened to be right by where Rick and Carl were about to get bodied? I'm just imagining all 7 of them sneaking in, tiger in tow, getting to the right spot of bushes, watching as Negan goes through his whole thing, and Zeke whispering "ok, now" to Shiva. :p
I don't mind a little forced narrative from time to time to set up an exciting scene, but these moments just happen so often in this show.

Cause Rick moves between two states; coward Rick and all-in Rick. We started the season with coward Rick and got to all-in Rick, I wouldn't be surprised by the end of next season if something goes horribly wrong and it's back to coward Rick again. There is never any real growth to his character IMO.

Yup, this is why I bitched about the trash people last night... it was just a reset back to episode 1. I wish they just had a fight break out and when things started to look grim The Kingdom saved the day. The surrendering aspect was dumb, even if Rick did talk shit.

After sleeping on it, I think this was the show's weakest finale since Season 3. It's only marginally better because people actually fought each other (besides the Saviors/Scavengers that just ran into gunfire with their guns lowered). Negan and Carl savagery were the best highlights for me.

Can someone tell me which episodes were worth watching from this half of the season? In the first half of the season I felt like I could've just watched the 1st and last episodes.

How does the tiger know who to attack and who not to attack.

And Daryl finding the wooden statue. Come onnnn.

Wait, that was the season finale!?

More like 1 episode or war, 6 episodes of stupid shit and then 1 episode that's semi important for the mid season finale followed by 7 more episodes of stupid shit and finally the big war episode that defeats Negan which could have happened halfway through season 7 if they hadn't stalled to stretch an eight episode plot over two years!
