At first I really didn't see the merit of choosing DF for the reveal?

It's actually perfect since DF has become the standard for console warriors to defend their purchases.

Things are going to swing hard the other way in terms on console versions.

I imagine that even if there were exclusive games coming to it, none of them would be out this year.

And thats fine, I just hope they dont announce a game and then come to find out its not releasing for another 3 years. This isnt a problem exclusive to them, I hate when that happens with any company.

I think this shows a lot of confidence by MS that they're willing to let DF do an exclusive reveal. This also hopefully addresses my biggest complaint about the PS4 Pro reveal! Technical talks aren't very "sexy" and can easily kill the momentum you'd want in a stage presentation.

I wonder if this means we'll have the tech talk now, and a short look at the hardware/release date/price at E3?

Yeah, I think it's pretty clear that Sony dropped the ball when revealing the PS4 Pro. It just didn't work out - especially if you were at home streaming.

I'm not sure why people are putting so much focus on the CPU being/not being Jaguar. The Xbone is still the baseline spec like the original PS4 is still the baseline spec for the PS4 Pro. No doubt when proper next-gen systems come out the CPU will get an upgrade, but I just don't have all that much concern when developers still have to use original hardware from 3+ years ago as a baseline to begin with.

Was a lot announced? I might have just forgotten. There are games im excited for like state of decay 2 but im pretty sure that doesnt need Scorpio to run it properly. I want to see Scorpio specific projects like Crackdown really come out and blow me away. I bought mine last year with Gears 4 and Horizon 3 and really enjoyed those but after that I havent touched it at all.

No the fact that Spencer repeatedly mentioned that this was still going to be an Xbox One, playing Xbox One games. 'No man left behind!' Any of that ring a bell?

There's a 0.0001% chance of me getting a Scorpio, considering I own an XB1S and completed my first PC build recently, but I'm legit happy for DF that they're getting the reveal!

Very deserved after the great work they've been doing these past years and a much more exciting outlet for a reveal than, say, IGN.

The baseline argument never really means all that much because modern engines are generally incredibly scaleable.

Look at Battlefront at Ultra on a PC and then consider it also runs on the original Xbox One. Modern engines are designed to run on huge ranges of hardware.

I don't see how a DF reveal hints at something besides Jaguar nor do I really get why people think they're holding back to drop some blockbuster CPU announcement in the first place. They've been beating their chest about 6TF for a year but held back on saying it has a next generation CPU because of reasons?

Really?

It seems like this case is MS giving DF the console to run tests/benchnarks or whatever to give people a good tech preview. It's no different from when a company gives media a review copy or review hardware.

Because people would be waiting for the DF analysis to confirm what Microsoft was saying anyway.

At the same time though, as with any product exclusive review / preview etc, I expect a natural bias. So I'm always wary of how positive things can be / lack of criticism etc. On the other hand, its a show of confidence to get DF involved for a tech analysis, and seemingly the exact audience to put it in front of, who are concerned with console tech specs / perf between systems

Because I understand what a 4k machine does but have no idea what the next generation of chip is called (Everest? Apache? Haddock?) ?

That's how I feel too, but there is this little part of me that says they are using DF to show real results since maybe the hard specs won't convince people what the hardware can do.
