Lego City Undercover |OT| - This city has 4 ports

It's neither a remaster aswell it's a simple quick barebones port nothing really improved just added a 2 player mode in and there near full price for a 4 year old game

It's definitely a remaster seeing as it's had a resolution bump and slightly improved graphics. A barebones remaster, definitely, but it's much the same as something like the Heavy Rain, Prototype or Dishonored remasters that came out.

1080p and solid framerate in Switch, glad to hear. Sure I'll buy it when will be a bit cheaper, I've played the 3ds version and was fun, but this is much better for sure.

Yeah of course resolution bump is certain not like any work was needed by them there just simply flick higher res the newer platforms can handle, graphics don't seem improved at all still has low level of detail, lots of pop in, shimmering alot, low draw distance etc like the Wii U version while still has a few frame drops here and there not impressed.

They could've dug in and really improved this game in many aspects and make much more use out of the current gen platforms hardwares but it's Lego and they know it'll just sell regardless. Minimal effort maximum profit

I was going to wait for a sale, but what the hell, I have $35 in rewards and GCU at Best Buy. I already own the game on Wii U, but I only paid $12 for it from NewEgg forever ago.

I was looking for more 3D games to play on my Switch but this game doesn't seem like its worth full price. Maybe 20.

Is it full price on Switch?

Load times are worrying and £11 on CDKeys for PC is too good to pass up, esp with a Steam Link so we can play from sofa. I'm not bothered about FPS.

To be fair this is technically actually a massive change to many underlying aspects.

So the load time on all versions are bad? Was considering this for PS4 or PC

Apparently, the PC version does see bigger improvements depending on the kind of drive you install it on, but the console versions do appear to be identical in the in the load time department: better than Wii U in an noticeable way, but still rather long.

So been playing the Switch version for a couple of hours. Load times still suck but the game looks great and is as fun as I remember the Wii U version being. I have had some fps issues just driving around town and that's disappointing. They are just brief 1 sec hitching. I've been playing in dock mode.

Thanks for making the thread!

If the load times aren't vastly improved, and if a person doesn't care much about the graphical upgrade, I'd definitely recommend the Wii U version at half the price and with the GamePad map.

It's around 35 seconds with the digital version on Switch. About the same as Zelda.

Probably similar for PC/PS4 I would assume.

Thanks, both of you. I'll keep my eye on this. I'm still really interested in playing it so I'll probably buy it at some point

Am I the only Switch user seeing a huge improvement over Wii U? The load times are literally cut in half for me—35 seconds on Switch vs. 70 or 80 even on Wii U.

I mean I don't get why it's a big deal?

I bought Horizon recently and the opening load time on that is 40 or so seconds?

I think it might just be how boring the load screen was on the WiiU.. just a logo.. spinning...

SD card versus on-board memory? Who knows. I have an SDXC card in my Switch, so I'll definitely report in tomorrow when I get the game.

I really liked this on Wii U but I'm still baffled by how they've handled the re-release.
It's like 4 years old but it's more expensive than when it launched without a lot of additional content.
I'll probably buy this after a few patches and a sale. I really would like to revisit Lego City with improved load times but I'm underwhelmed by the port quality

Is it just an opening load or is gameplay broken up by load screens too? Horizon never loads again unless you fast travel, and then it's a lot faster than the first load.

I've been wanting to try this since the Wii U version first came out, then they stupidly announced this edition right after the Nintendo Selects release. Now I'm still not sure if the load times really are that off putting.

If you haven't played this game I'd say pick it up
Story is pretty good, funny too
Last level is the greatest last level I've played 👀

Welp, thus far impressions on Switch are relatively positive - even compared to PC (which I was trying to choose between).

Cringed at the price, but caved on the Switch version. This is one of those rare games for me where performance and resolution being 'good enough' is perfectly acceptable on this platform. Also, Nintendo easter eggs.

...and now I have further justification to buy a Pro gamepad (is that a good thing? Sure as hell not for my wallet!).

Digital, installed on system memory. How long is the initial load for you? It would be a bit disappointing if there was a huge difference between the digital and physical versions.

Loading my save twice and the first was around 54 secs and the second was around a min.

Edit: I start the timer as soon as I see loading and stop it when I see my guy on screen.

Would love to jump in but there's too many games coming out at the moment so I'll have to hold off :(

Does anyone know any info about the PS4 version? Is it 1080p, what frame rate, if the load times are like the Switch (it doesn't look like that much of a demanding game, if Kingdom Hearts can get 4 game's loading down to 1-2 seconds then surely this should not take that long). Thanks.

Just started playing the Switch cart a little while ago. Docked.

Looks and runs great! Loads are not long at all so far, either. Man, all the negativity was BS. $36 well spent.

Don't sleep on this game. It's my favorite Lego game of all time. The open world is awesome to screw around in and the story and characters are great and very funny.

So I got the PC version with the cdkeys crazy price of $15, got it running at 1440p by editing the ini file using notepad+

At 1440p - the game actually kinda looks bad because you can really tell how bad the assets are (since it was originally a Wii U game). Blocky things are fine but assets like flowers just look really odd and weird looking in a very off putting way which mean I didnt enjoy looking at the scenery as much as I did on the Wii U version. Due to this the game may actually look better at say 1080p. Load times were decent on a regular drive.

I may end up getting the game for the switch because I think it will look great on the small screen. Probably wait for a price drop though given I already spent $15 on the PC version.

yeah tweaking the ini file got it working on the pc just fine. averaging around 130fps in the city.

Game runs better than recent lego games lol.

Still don't get why these games aren't 60fps on ps4/xbo? Is it because of the cpu?

What kind of advantages ? I'm only debating picking it up based on the very long load times people are mentioning.

- Portability
- Nintendo references

It's also the first Lego game on a handheld to be exactly the sams as it is on console. Considering the sheer amount of content in most Lego games that's actually a pretty big advantage in my eyes.

No it's just unoptimised for newer consoles they didn't bother doing that

Whelp no one could answer so I dove in.

Currently downloading to Switch internal storage instead of physical and instead of SD card. Since load times sound so abysmally slow figured I would give it a go on internal as that seemed to be faster than SD card and switch cart for Zelda.

I will report back average load times, might be good for switch users to do the same if there is an sd user out there.

Did you played the Wii U version? If not, it's well worth the asking price, the game is amazing, great humor, interesting story and has TONS of things to do.

I personally don't see myself paying 60 bucks for it again.

Lovely OT - thanks.

Would be great if the OP had a breakdown of framerate, resolution, effects between each version, but maybe we need to wait for DF for that.

JaseC

gave away the keys to the kingdom.
It seems I'm stuck waiting for a patch (PC version) as editing the configuration file just results in the game silently crashing when it tries to load.
