Synopsis
Berserk is a (dark) fantasy manga series by Kentaro Miura that debuted in 1989. This 2nd season continues from the 2016 series following the aftermath of Griffith's rebirth, as Guts decides on his next move and how to keep Casca safe from the monsters and spirits that would consume her.

The cast

Gatsu
Guts is the Black Swordsman, a big, burly, manly, badass who doesn't take shit from anybody and would very much want to be left alone.
He was once a prolific member of the mercenary group, Band of the Hawk, until the entire troupe were mutilated by demons, as sacrificial offerings to the God Hand during an event known as The Eclipse. Surviving this mad ordeal, he now journies through the land hunting the Apostles until he can exact his vengeance against them.
Because of the brand on his neck acting like a magnet for the many evil spirits across Midland, he hardly can get a moment's rest for they can even torment him in his sleep. As such he sleeps only during the day and every waking moment has his him hunting for the Apostles, his one link to getting closer to the God Hand, from daybreak til sunrise.

Puck
8I1VrNw.jpg

Master of the Elf Dimension Style of Swordselfship, Puck has been tagging along with Guts curious to learn more about him and to protect him from the monsters that would assail him during his cooldown.

Griffisu
Former leader of the Band of the Hawk. He sacrificed his comrades in a bloody ritual known as the Eclipse and became one of the God Hand, Femto.
He was reborn into the world at the end of Season 1.

Amazing op.

I'm back on the boat. This arc is a million times better than the last one, and my expectations are so low to the ground that they're being torn asunder from the gravity at the center of the earth.

Yeah, I won't even bother with this. Couldn't even get past the 1st episode of S1. Gonna continue to reread the manga instead.

I've watched the movies and read the manga. Should I watch this out of morbid curiosity.

Kentaro Miura's insanely intricate and jaw dropping art is reduced to budget 2010 video game graphics. If that's not bad enough chapters are skipped around and arcs are basterdized at random that spoil the overall pace

It's better wait and follow the manga IMO.

I'm aware of what it's like.
But again, morbid curiosity on just how bad it is.
"Oh boy, maybe they learned their lesson from the first season.

This was done recently on a tv budget by a dedicated team with a great director, maybe they'll be able to step up their game and..."

oh.
Whatever that is I want to watch it.

Should have just ripped the assets from Berserk Musou for Season 2. Oh well, the latter half of Season 1 was about a 5/10 imo, as opposed to the crime against humanity that were the first few episodes, so maybe Season 2 will at least start from that level of competence.

Of course Berserk has the potential for a 10/10 anime, so having to hope for a few 5/10 episodes is an unforgivable sin in itself. Still, it's Berserk so I'll watch it.

According to a few guys on Reddit who saw the first 2 episodes at Anime Boston, no, apparently not.

there's a solution to having to move the camera so much to hide their terrible character models

and that's spending time on designing better character models

what a bunch of butts

I just don't think the team behind it has any clue what-so-ever. There are shots where the camera is spinning in a fucking circle over what is a highly static scene. Fucking why?

to try and trick your brain into thinking the characters dont look like arse

Isn't this show/series pretty damn popular, why did they drop the ball so hard on this, animation and visual in general look damn terrible.

Pretty disappointed since I just started reading the comic and wanted to hop into this as well.

That's CG? Holy fuck.
What's it about and is it good? Because you have my attention
It's like Voltron, except through the most anime-ish of anime lenses. Season one is ok but suffers from crunchyroll's c-team doing the simulcast subs. Season two turns into something special.

It's directed by a living legend at Sanzigen, a studio that knows what they're doing.

It's pure whiplash to see a season of that show and marvel at how good it looks, and then wonder what in the world was happening behind the scenes on Berserk. I'm betting it is actually a very expensive show to make, that ended up looking very cheap because of production problems.

Pretty dope to see that he's worked on some of my all time favorite anime. Will definitely check out. Slightly disappointed its a Voltron/Mech anime kinda thing but if you say its special and with that guy on the job it seems worth checking out.

Can I skip s1 and just go straight into s2?

Watching this show makes me feel like I'm in the eclipse, permanently. But I guess I'll watch it regardless of its quality since it's more berserk.

It'll be a little confusing, but season one with the crunchyroll subs are pretty confusing to begin with, so you actually wouldn't be missing out on much context. Give it an episode or two to see if it scratches the itch.

But I guess I'll watch it regardless of its quality since it's more berserk.
That should be the show's official subtitle.

Huh? What did I say? Did I screw up again? :(
I'm so confused by the OP. What 2016 series? You mean the movies? Are you saying a TV series continues the movies? Wait... there was a 2016 TV series?

wat.

This is season two of a new CG series that picks up the story after the events of the original anime / movies.

Which sounds like a dream come true on paper, buuuuuuuut....

Going by the titles of the episodes it seems like this season is going to be churning through content if not out right skipping entire sections. It sounds like its cramming a volumes worth of stuff into an episode at time.

Wait a minute, are they actually trying to cover all of the falcon of the millennium empire arc in just one season? Holy shit, this might be even worse than I thought it would be.

They're covering a ton of the manga in only like 12 episodes. I'm guessing they're just going to cut out entire sections of the story so they can get to putting all their budget into animating troll rape.
