Mass Effect: Andromeda releases Patch 1.05 Thursday, details more changes for future

I'm really curious about what teams/animators they have working on these animation fixes. Are they the same people who originally did the animations, or did they kinda tell those people "Step aside, we're having '_______' fix this" ?

Sure we'll never know, just curious.

What a difference. Makes me really excited to play the game in the near future. Feeling a bit fortunate I only played the first 5 hours or so so far.

We need more comparison gifs!

Yes!

Facial animations look better too. Is that the case?

Question is, did they hand tailor that scene/character in the patch or across the board.
Because I'll be less impressed if they simply did that one since it's so obvious, early on and most talked about.

It's done by hand so I doubt they could change that many conversation in such a short amount of time

Very excited to play this once they get more fixes in place. Seems like they are coming along very nicely. Already a huge difference here.

Still need a way ingame for you to adjust your characters face and appearance. That should be standard with character creation. Saints Row spoiled me.

The performance on the pro doesn't seem to be improved, still have large dips at times. Has anyone done a framerate analysis of the patch yet?

The performance improvements were a part of the long term roadmap. It runs exactly the same for me

However I do think that DoF is a bit improved on the Pro now, at least during conversations. It's still a strange implementation of the Effect but doesn't look quite as wonky any more.

Lexi's "not bad" face is gone, it seems.

Why didn't the game just launch like this? I'm glad I waited.

I firmly believe that it took the release of the game before Bioware would let the Edmonton team come and fix the issues that Montreal had. 5 years and the eye fix, which probably took no time, improve the look immensely. That's not a question of enough time, that's a studio that was in over they're heads and poorly managed.

EA delaying this 6 months was going to do nothing unless Bioware's big guns came in to give it the expected level of finishes.

Really nice of them to fix the worst offenders animation wise already. Addison still looks bad but the new animation coupled with the improved eyes and make-up removal improves her a lot. Weird that it shipped like that in the first place. The talent is there at the very least.

It's great to see these improvements hit so quickly. I'll hold off on my play-through for another few months and see what else they fix.

I wonder if the other Bioware teams will help these guys salvage the game. There's definitely a good game here, it just needs a ton of work.

The Addison "my face is tired" scene is completely different. A lot of the dialogue has been cut and rearranged in addition to the improved animation.

This was their statement a week ago "This Thursday, we’ll release a new patch that addresses technical fixes (crashes, improved performance)"

I guess I was expecting too much, honestly it's dissapointing to see so many devs just slap on a res bump for the pro patch. Rise of the tomb raiders excellent pro support shouldn't be the exception. I'd take a stable framerate over an increased resolution any day.

Anyone else have trouble launching after the patch? Mine just stayed stuck in the loading screen after "Press A to Start" on Xbox One.

I had to delete the local save and make it redownload before the game would finally launch.

I won't lie, I liked that face haha. It was so odd that it made me laugh, but I understand why they fixed it :p

This isn't April 1st.

"We’ve also improved lip-sync and facial acting during some conversations"

We’ll continue to listen to your feedback, and we thank you for working with us to create an even better Mass Effect: Andromeda experience.

I had hoped to read an apology, and something more like "many"

An apology for what? Apologies don't fix games. Patches do.

Still I don't really blame Bioware Montreal considering the improvements made in such a short time from release to the initial patch, would give good reason that a bunch of QA and passing inspections still needed to be done on the game.

March being the end of Q1 probably didn't help either because that is goes in hand with profit reporting for many companies, so Bioware Montreal's hands were likely tied in a rush to meet the before end of Q1 release deadline.

At least they are trying to fix the issues. I do recall quite a few folks were touting that EA would simply drop the game and move on and nothing would ever get fixed, or statements along the lines of animation fixes are "beyond the scope" of a patch. It's interesting in retrospect with what has happened with this update.

Looking forward to seeing where future updates proceed from here on out.

Ha nice that they've fixed some real animation issues but I'll miss the weirdness, I found it really charming how weird and ridiculous the game was.

A fixed up second playthrough will be nice for sure though.

This is exactly why this game shipped the way it did, and these big fixes so quickly implemented.

No but the game still crashes when I put the game in background, suspend xbox. Come back later and attempt to resume.

I have some weird issue since that patch on PC where whenever I alt+tab and try coming back, the game is not fullscreen anymore and only take a corner of the screen. I have to change some graphic setting(doesn't matter what it is) for it to come back in fullscreen mode.

Running this in 4K, but auto 1080p resolution scale.

Alt + Enter, easier and faster.

I didn't even finish with Eos. I only put 14 hours into the game (According to Origin's play hour counter at least). Persona 5 kind of dragged my attention away to be honest.

It will be nice to come back to this game with substantial improvements after I'm finished with Persona 5.

Probably better off just starting completely new. I can wait.

The patch added the numeral keys to the dialogs, that's great. What's with all the "Nums" though? Regular numbers work just as fine, no need to use the numpad.

Actually Edmonton had to help crunch since last year to get this done for March. It's even delayed work on their post DA:I game. Bioware isn't as big as people think , only around 200 people helped make andromeda compared to the 600+ that worked on something like Witcher 3. Sure they have 3 studios but the one in Austin is mostly The Old Republic. Now that it's been kicked out the door (an EA decision) some of the final bits of polish can be released and as they stated in the open address to fans/detractors alike - they'll actually finish the game and tweak things over the next 3 months or so. This will all be Montreal though , Edmonton is hard at work on something else. A game that I can only assume is a 2018 title at best.

Eyes are certainly improved. Still not a fan of the texture quality on his face though.

Wow, that whole "face is tired" scene looks so much better. The line is still odd, like, just say "Sorry, It's been a long day and I'm tired." or something like that. "My face is tired" just makes me think you've been watching a bunch of comedy specials on Netflix and laughing all day.

Good on Bioware for making these changes. I'm busy with a couple other games right now, but I'll be looking into ME:A over the summer most likely.

This is a huge difference.

It really is, thank god for the fanbase snubbing the game right? Otherwise this would have been ignored. Vocal minority my arse.

Ive settled with the fact its not a good game but i'll pick it up for Scorpio, hopefully on EA access as i LOVE ME, its one of my favourite gaming franchises. Its completely unacceptable that we've have had to mock them mercilessly to get them to realise this isn't how you release a game, especially when its so cherished.

Looking better. Thinking I'll still wait for a few more patches to iron out stuff, but getting closer.

I wonder how long till it hits EA Access? Fall?

This is kinda my feeling as well. I had this whole headcanon where everyone who went to Andromeda was a fucking weirdo and that's why they all moved so strangely

PC players, did the patch change the colors of the game? My game looks like a different shade, not as vibrant. My tv hasn't changed. Strange.
