Television Displays and Technology Thread: This is a fantasy based on OLED

So I have a PS4 pro and an OLED c6, what should be the main settings? Ps4 is set to 4k RGB and TV is set to hdr game. Most little settings I'll adjust to my living room setup. But stuff like.. wide garmut should be left alone or normal?

Set PS4 Pro to resolution: 2160p RGB, RGB Range Limited, leave the other two settings alone. On the C6 and HDR Game, leave black level to low, change colour gamut to normal and colour temp to around W44-ish. You can play with dynamic contrast if you want to add some pop to the image, otherwise everything else default. Might have to knock your brightness up to 51 too, depending on conditions.

Regular SDR stuff is a bit more complicated as you can't change the colour gamut, so I completely max it out to W50.

That's me my friend. Warm temperature is something I've never understood. Warm looks like a piss filter to me. Except I don't set it to cool, I have it at neutral. Cool is too blue for me, lols.

That's because most TVs come with red and yellow filters way too strong. Some simple tweaking makes it look way more natural. There was a post in this thread which helped me with that, regarding the 2pt settings.

This is something that has gone on for over 12 + years that I have been following. Some people love vivid/dynamic and others love D65 reference etc. I used to love dynamic and vivid until I had my first set properly calibrated. At first thought I was an idiot I spent so much money to get a yellow and dull image. But maybe 1 week later, I got used to it and always think the base dynamic mode is extremely unnatural and artificial. Now I just calibrate myself to my taste. My game settings tend to use more artificial enhancements unless it is a HDR title.

Alright, so I just purchased an open Box m55-D0 at a really good price, and this is really my first experience with HDR in a set.

Besides everything being SUPER bright, I followed the Rtings optimal settings for the most part, without changing the actual color balance yet in the setting through individual colors. The only real difference is that I turned up the color a bit, from 50-62.

I was just playing and noticed during the cathedral of St Dismas area, that tracers, and explosions, well, were green when they first exploded. Which i find weird. Is this a setting issue? or is this an HDR thing? Or is there just something wrong with the set?

I always thought dynamic and vivid looked like crap and could tell it was all overblown. I certainly didn't need a calibration to tell me that much.

So I'm looking at the Vizio P75-C1 on Rtings... Is it still the case that HDR is not supported on input 5? Is the best input lag you can get with HDR really 43.8ms on input 1? Have firmware updates improved this at all? They mention "Update 01/23/2017: Retested with the newest firmware (3.0.12.2) and now the Vizio P Series 2016 can now display the chroma subsampling correctly when set in 'Computer' picture mode. The input lag has also been reduced.", but has the graph been updated to reflect the updated timings as well?

Edit: I just realized the review is not necessarily for the 75" model, but the P series in general. Does the 75" still have the same input lag?

What's the best uhd Blu Ray player without breaking the bank (less than $200)? Since upgrading to the B6, I've bevome quite bitter that the PS4 Pro doesn't have a uhd player.

Also does anyone else's LG magic remote eat through batteries like there's no tomorrow? I've had to put in new batteries twice since getting the TV about two weeks ago.

Save up and/or wait for a sale and get the Sony X800. The Samsung is still too wonky, as is the Phillips. I couldn't deal with either of them. The Sony is fantastic. Good settings, and it's simply blazing compared to the others outside of the Oppo which is significantly more expensive for not as much gains. I didn't take this one back, and I'm watching PE2 as I type.

Calibrations. Im going to say some of you right now you won't like a calibrated picture unless you're that heavily invested into 1:1. I calibrate my sets, then tweak them to my tastes. I can not deal with warm whites for example, and prefer some enriched blues and greens. Best buy can't do full calibrations like you'll get from people like Chad B on AVS Forums (I've seen his work first hand), or hell, the calibrated settings found on even say Rtings.

Anyways, I was told I should expect the A1E most likely next month now. I want to see it and play with it before I buy it, then do some side by side with LGs new models.

I'm half and half when it comes to calibration. I like my brightness, contrast and colour range etc to be accurate, but I always whack the OLED Light higher than it perhaps should be, especially at night.

Doesn't sound right. I've not changed mine in a year.

Good lord, you like a warm picture. That's wayyyy too much for me.

You get used to it. I've used Warm 2 (~W44) for a while now after initially being very sceptical, I couldn't change back.

I also have the OLED light much higher than recommended as to me the whites look way too grey at the lower settings.

Yep, my OLED light for regular Game mode is 95 with contrast at 84.

As a 55 E6 owner I still have the .95 firmware I think. Is that an older one? And is it bad that HDR game mode is locked to wide gamut? Probably only for the games not supporting HDR or what am I missing? Wide should be the mode with more colors available?

Looking at a projector, would suit my room nicely but it has about 70ms input lag. Is this awful like I suspect or pretty standard for TVs?

I'd be look for bluray and console games/steam link via controllers, so no mousing.

(There's projectors with half that latency, but I'd have to rearrange my room a little. Can't ceiling mount atm)

Does anybody know why the LG OLED 7 series is still not available at German online stores, not even for preorder?

All I ever found was that they were supposed to release in March already. I'm not going to preorder anyway but I want to see their actual price range and the impact they will have on the 6 series.

That's the newest FW version.

Except the C7 almost all new models are available on mediamarkt.de and saturn.de.

I am in awe with the KS9000 65', coming from an 2010 42' LG, this is blowing my mind for the past 3 days.

I just subscribed to Netflix and holy shit Stranger things in UHD or Iron fist in HDR.

GAF hold me.....

I honestly use dejudder 10 and deblur 10 with almost everything. But based on what I've read in this thread, many of my settings would not be approved by most here.

Edit: DF corrected it. No HDMI 2.1 for Xbox One Scorpio...damn.

I still say Xbox One S is the best deal for gamers/lite AV enthusiasts. Most 500gb are bundles under $199. You can easily sell BF1 or games for like $20 to $30 etc.

I think gamers would be quite dissapointed with Xbox One S versions of games running at lower resolutions compared to their counterparts (ie: Battlefield 1 720P upscaled looks fairly bad comparatively).

UHD Player is still the least expensive out there and works great.

BiGBoSSMk23

A company being excited for their new game is a huge slap in the face to all the fans that liked their old games.
Yo

Can somebody tell me how the fuck the Vizio P series is achieving 16 ms latency in 4k gaming while my Sony X850D is up there shitting itself in the 30's ?

Like, am I fuckne high or is Sony not worth shit these days?

What the fuxk are they doing?

Patch this fucking shit man

Jeez

Edit:

Fucking embarrassing. I'm about to see if Best Buy will let me trade this shit in. But the Vizio P series isn't showing up anywhere in Canadian stores.

After Scorpio releases and the dust settles, that price is going down to $149 youd hope

How is this TV for gaming? Is the latency ok "acceptable" on it?? How about with HDR is latency ok in game mode? I am not a tv nerdy gal so im always lost when it comes to tv's.

I mean as gamers, you have a chance at buying a UHD blu-ray player but one that also gives you more gaming opportunities. Want to try Crackdown 3, Sunset Overdrive and other games you missed you can.

The player works solid. And if you honestly dont want to game, sell the controller and buy the cheap media remote. You have a box that will be updates for years and gives a great PQ.

Yup, I can easily see them clearing remaining BF1 and Minecraft 500gb bundles for $149-$179 which would be crazy for UHD disc purchasers.

Yesterday I installed the new Windows 10 update (HDR Support), enabled HDR in the Windows settings and started up Forza Horizon 3 on a LG E6 OLED TV.
So far I didn't understand why some of you were complaining about a too dim HDR game mode, since it looks fine to me on the PS4 Pro, but yeah, FH3 is really too dark in HDR Game on PC.
To be fair though, I'm not sure if the PC version possibly still requires an update to properly support HDR.

Does changing the black level setting have any effect?

Vizio was exclusive to Costco up here. At least for last year's models. I know Best Buy did carry them in years prior.

So with all this new Scorpio hype I wanted to check in on what the actual world looks like.

The dream is currently, OLED HDR 4K.

I have a 2015 Vizio E series 60" right now and I like it for sure, but I really want to see all these improvements this fall.

I know I need a new AV receiver to take advantage of HDR, right?

I'm not afraid to spend money since it seems this feature set will seemingly be baseline for awhile.

That said, I don't want to drop 5K...

Is there any hope for me to get out of this holiday with the new hotness and still afford my mortgage?

If it's a pipedream and I just need to wait that's fine.

You don't need a new receiver if you are happy enough missing out on the HD Audio formats, as you can just connect the Scorpio directly to the TV and use the optical out to connect to your existing amp - it's what I do, but I only have a 5.1 set-up.

Get a UHD player with 2 hdmi outputs. One goes to the TV output directly while the other goes to the receiver to output only the audio. That way you still get HD audio.

I'd set up a Slickdeals alert for "OLED" so you get notifications when deals pop up. Two weekends ago, the 65" LG B6 (2016 model) was $2500 from NewEgg.

Solid price and reputable dealer. It was sold out in ~36 hours though. Just need to keep your eyes out for stuff like that, especially right now as models are transitioning.

Switch Dynamic Contrast and Dynamic Colour on in the Advanced settings. Especially Dynamic Contrast. Immediately much, much brighter. And doesn't seem to increase lag.

The only downside is the fan noise is pretty constant during playback, at least for me. In a quiet movie like Arrival it's a bit annoying. I'll probably buy a dedicated player this year (Either LG or Sony) since they don't have fans.
