ARMS launches June 16

Only just catching up with this but saw 2v2 mentioned and was expecting some kind of tag system where you switch out characters and rework your loadout while not in combat to better suit the opponent(s), which would make for an amazing tug-of-war in tag matches.

Then I watched the vid and saw that it's real time 2v2, which looked like a hot mess. I'm sure it's fun enough - 1v1 is, from what I played - but it seems completely at odds with trying to sell it as a competitive fighter with depth and nuance, things it clearly has as a 1v1 game. Odd addition.
.

I agree it looks like a mess. But Smash teams also looks extremely chaotic and it is extremely nuanced and complex. I think there is potential for a decent amount of depth in this mode.

I was expecting some type of Boss Rush mode considering the camera restrictions.

yea not sure how 2v2 is an "odd" addition when you want a game to have casual appeal.
Clearly they're going for the competitive angle, but they also know the casual audience is where the money is.

It's two Joy-Cons per player and split-screen, so local 2v2 would require two Switches, no? Not saying it's a bad addition per se, just one that I don't feel gels with how the game actually plays.

Still, glad to see more character specific stuff. A small roster doesn't matter if each glove adds another variable onto what they can do, and then you then have to deal with different punch types, elements, passives and so on. Dead keen to get this and start practicing those vicious hooks...

That's the purpose of having multiple modes, right? Allowing fun extra options is great.

Summer is shaping up to be much stronger than I anticipated (June 16th still counts as summer in my book). ARMS is actually my most anticipated title for the remainder of the year. Looking forward to it.

I'm finally sold over by the addition of 2 vs. 2

Hoping that it somehow supports 4 players with 8 Joy-Cons...because I need to see that happen. At the very least, hope 2 vs. 2 supports CPU battles. Gimme that chaos!

Ever play a game in the Gundam Vs. series? (Link directs to closed beta footage for the latest game coming to PS4 this summer.)

2v2 arena based combat is actually the standard for the majority of these types of games, thanks to Gundam. I can't help but imagine that Ninty thought to put in a mode like this for their game, simply because it'd be a thing that could possibly entice players that like that style of play. Or at least, give the option if the meta goes in that direction.

Hell, it worked on me, and I was overall pretty tepid on ARMS until today's footage. 2v2 was just the icing on the cake that insured my purchase.

I caved in and ordered the Switch with Zelda.

Game looks great, best art style Nintendo had in years.
Crisp, clean and full of depth.

I hope it has online.

2v2 in Smash is fairly chaotic but is very much an incredibly competitive mode with it's own fun appeal. Consider checking out how some of the Doubles tournaments are for Smash 4, it gets insane. Considering ARMS heavily integrates elements like curvature in punches I think 2v2 has insane ramifications for potential meta and I want to see a subset of 2v2 tournaments if the game picks up.

I was already sold on ARMS, but now I'm even more sold. Min Min looks fantastic, but I can't wait to see what Not-R.O.B. looks like! I hope they do Amiibos for this game.

MinMin's hair are noodles :-O

Can't wait t'see how the rest of the roster is gonna look. Pulling for the luchador and white(skull?) robot.

There has to be more to the game than zoning. I need to see characters being more aggressive and pushing forward.
Don't think of this game as Nintendo's take on 3D Fighters like Virtua Fighter or Tekken. Instead think of it as Nintendo's Virtua On or Gundam Versus. Actually the dev team mentioned Virtua On as a source of inspiration for the title.

Min Min is pretty dang top!

Honestly this trailer kind of changed my mind on Arms. I wasn't going to get it, but it looks like it's deeper than I originally thought.

I can understand why people may be hesitant to play given the footage shown, but truthfully when I played the demo it felt like a fine tuned Wii Sports Boxing with additional and intuitive actions, and with no cable connecting the two having a wide range of motion feels so great. Putting this game in the hands of players will make or break this I feel, and I hope demo support comes around by the end of the summer.

I am so glad they're moving quickly on coloured joy cons, too. I'll get my matching red/blue joycon pack and then the yellow in June, but I guess I'll have to grab the pro controller in May or July so I can space out my spending on the Switch.

June ain't Spring, but alas it was too good to be true that the game with spring arms would make it in time for Spring.

I feel like the speed of the game could use a little boosts.

Im guessing the speed aspect will be a bit like Rocket League, where its extremely fast at elite levels but slow at the casual level. Until we see some expert players get their hands on this there is no reason to assume the pace wont increase drastically.

Edit: it will also probably improve when people start playing it with the pro controler, (or get into better shape)

I loved how they showcased Minmin while fighting on a stage that looked like a ramen bowl.

Really psyched about the 4 more characters find too. 10 characters with unique abilities + different weapons and elements should make things pretty variable. Hopefully they'll talk more in the near future about what modes the game offers too.

Overall when they first showed this game, it felt like a write-off title to me, but it's coming around to feel like something worthwhile since it seems to be offering some depth.

Also, really dumb question, but I'm assuming we can't play this game with a pro controller huh?

I didn't notice this at first because his head is at an angle that makes it difficult, but it seems the white robot(?) only has one eye because his other is being covered by... what looks like a scouter from Dragon Ball?

Also, I think the green "robot" might actually be some sort of goop creature. He's looking a little too shiny to me...

2v2 is a really good addition for a multiplayer portfolio.

The release date is super interesting. I imagine they're gonna do one last big spotlight on it at E3 including some long Treehouse Live sessions, and try to hype it up as much as possible. Releasing a big game on the last day of E3 seems like a gamble. Hopefully E3 will help it shine and the massive exposure will lead to big sales, but I could also see it being overshadowed by everything else Nintendo and otherwise at E3.

Nintendo said you can play this game without the motion controls so yes, you can probably use the pro controller.

I'm kind of expecting that it will have modest presence in the presentation, but then an Invitational Tournament featuring competitive players.

Push plenty of demo units on the show floor, and have the game drop on the last day.

I just love how creative they are with the "arms" springs, ribbons, chains, bandages, noodles. Wonder what else they can use as an extendable arm.

Isn't the 15th the last day of E3?
