Horizon Zero Dawn |OT2| Red Head Redemption

I've been watching a Let's Play of Horizon and the guy found a way to not do the zip line ride after the Gravehorde mission. Shaking my god damn head...

How spoilery is this? I'm only at Meridian but really want to watch. I'm not worried about enemy spoilers unless they're unique bosses not seen in prerelease trailers and gameplay footage or endgame environments.

Mmm is just random fights but it features the biggest machines of the game, some of them corrupted but they're all machines that you probably already know. I'd say is not spoiler, besides is an art video, you won't see full fights.

I had completed a mission that landed someone in jail. Afterwards, I had three people to talk to with one being "optional". Since the optional one was furthest away, I saved it for last, yet after two, the mission was complete. I guess I get my error, but that kind of sucks and made me a little annoyed being a bit of a completionist as someone who makes sure to deplete all conversation options before moving on.

What did I miss? I did talk to them and exhaust all of their quips afterwards but I'm guessing there was more of a cutscene convo between the two?

Cool, thanks.

This game is sooooo long. Why won't it end?

I made the mistake of trying to do all the side missions and get all the collectables. I gave up and realized I still had a shit-ton of main story to complete.

I did the same thing................ I was so transfixed by the metal demon legs that I jumped down and ran along them and barely made it all the way back alive. It wasn't until I got to the bottom that I saw a zip line and realized that I had missed the real exit.

There's no cutscene. He just has a bunch of lines if you keep badgering him.

TFW you silent strike a Longlegs and it gets back up afterwards...

I'm feeling this way too, actually. Story started off interesting for me but the writing in the latter half is so bad and characters so uninteresting I just don't care anymore.

I'm very close to the end of this game after pre-ordering it and setting it aside to play Zelda. As beautiful as it is and as interesting as the premise is, the combat is very much to my disliking, the enemies are so abundant as to make me rather want to just skip the beautiful open world, the side missions and extras are SO BORING, and after dying three or four times at a big boss, dropping the difficulty to Easy and dying a couple more times, I don't think I'm even interested enough to play the last couple hours or so.

Please someone talk me into finishing it.

The main story is great imo. The side missions are side missions for a reason. I ignored mostly everything after miridian. Finished at lvl 36.

For me the combat is inspired and rarely did I ever die. I'm already wanting a sequel. I never really like side missions. They are always boring because they are almost always inconsequential.

If you're not enjoying the revelations of project zero dawn, idk what to say. I think it's one of the best plot points in games period.

Sounds like you just don't have good enough weapons? That late in the game you should be wrecking stuff. If you're not enjoying the story and it's a chore, don't play it. But I personally found the story really engaging, especially after learning what zero dawn means. Combat was super fun too. Maybe you're just one of the few people who doesn't love the game. And that's ok. You can't please everyone all the time.

If you are ~80% through the story, I think you owe it to yourself to finish the game though. Just pick up some good weapons next time you find a vendor, equip good mods, and grab the best armor.

So can anyone tell me what the mark of the seeker is? Someone mentioned "above your brow" in game but I don't see anything of distinction.

It bugs me whenever it's mentioned and I always look for a paint stripe or something.

This is awesome!
:D

This is amazing! Excellent work.
Thank you! Same to you, for your many GIFs and videos.

No unique bosses, just several machines and plenty of bandits being harassed :D

If you're far enough in the story and in the very understandable position of being sick of fighting and you're just wanting to see the rest of the story, there's a collectible you can get that makes most fights a breeze.
It's the power armor, you can unlock it by collecting all five power cells. I looked up where they were to find them otherwise I'd never have gotten them all. It was totally worth it.

If you wanna fight for real: do you have weapons with good mods? Late game mods can add +40% each to a stat, and late game weapons all allow up to three mods, if I remember right. Are you using tear ammo to break away enemy weapons/disable attacks? Spamming fire arrows to overheat enemies? Hitting (and destroying) vulnerable spots when they're visible?

Also, maybe a small tip but something that changed the game for me was getting over the mental block of wanting to fully charge and precisely aim every single arrow I shot. Getting some well aimed tear shots in to break armor/weapons is worthwhile, but for the rest of the attacks it's totally sufficient to just spam the fire button and let Aloy unload in the general direction of your enemy. With elemental arrows you'll rack up damage and eventually put the enemy in a shock/overheat/whatever mode.

As for convincing you to keep playing: the final segments of the game have a lot of great detail and audio/data logs that fill out the backstory which to me is the best part of the story. Also, the final boss sequence is enjoyable with good moments between the big characters, and the end game cinematic is touching.

I've got the highest powered bow and armor I can buy, with all purple mods. The spear I don't think you can upgrade right? I've only ever changed my bow and armor.
According to the IGN list of main missions, I've got three remaining after the one I'm on. It's not that the game is super hard, it's just that the combat SUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCKS and is not enjoyable to butt my head against.

EDIT: I'm guessing bypassing all the optional/side content is coming back to hurt me in terms of upgrade points.

I learned a few hours earlier what Zero Dawn means and it was what I guessed as soon as you see the woman Aloy shares DNA with. It's not bad, but as interesting as the story is, the gameplay has just ruined it all for me. Shitty combat after coming off the games I just finished playing, automatic platforming you don't even have to look at to succeed, checklist open-world objectives that are becoming all too common. And as I said in my previous post, I've got the best bow and armor available from any vendor I've visited, both equipped with all purple mods. I may just personally be at a point where, coming right off of Zelda, I'm fed up with games trying to keep their players invested for a year, I miss cinematic, 10-20 hour story-heavy games being the norm, ala the stuff Remedy makes.

Sorry, but if you think the combat sucks, then there's really no reason for any of us to try to convince you to continue playing. IMO, the combat is the greatest aspect of the game and it's what kept me continuing playing for hours without bothering with any side quests or main quests. Also, if you think you already know the whole story of HZD, then you're wrong, there's more to the story then what Zero Dawn really is.

I'm feeling this way too, actually. Story started off interesting for me but the writing in the latter half is so bad and characters so uninteresting I just don't care anymore.

The problem with HZD is that the first third of the game (introduction) is great and then the second third is kind of middling (pun intended). All the quests in the middle part are only there to get you to
Meridian
, and once you get to
Meridian
you continue to do quests just to discover all of the land. It's not until you get to
Sunfall
and beyond
(meeting Sylens)
(last third) does the story becomes more engaging. I also don't like the information bomb of the last third. I think it would've been better if GG spread out all the information that you learned in the last third of the game through various quests, rather than just making you listening to VLogs and reading documents.

Edit: I finally beat the game the other night and got my platinum! Spent about 65 hours on Hard.

The combat is pretty divine for an open world game imo. It was never a chore and always felt fun. You should be wrecking stuff free if you are that late in the game with purple modded weapons. You are using other weapons besides the bow right? Every creature has a strategy that you can use multiple weapons to achieve.

One would think you'd be all about badass motherfuckers like Nil, yo

Psh. Lovable sociopaths are always fun and entertaining characters in fiction. Doesn't mean I'd like them IRL.

But
there's nothing lovable, or even likeable about Nil. He's a douche sociopath

That's right, give the fucker the cold shoulder. Just keep on walking.

Didn't do any of the sidequests with him after the first one.

There is a sidequest that gives your spear 1+ attack. Can't remember at the moment where you pick it up. Somewhere around Mothers Watch though.

I really don't understand this post at all. The combat in Horizon is some of the best in open world games, to the point where I question how you are approaching it. Are you using all three different bows (Hunter's Bow, Sharpshot Bow, War Bow)? Are you using the two slings (Elemental Sling, Blast Sling)? How about the ropecaster? By the end of the game I was taking down multiple enemies with ease and loving every minute of it.

If you don't like the combat, that's your opinion. But I think the vast majority of people love it. So to go around saying it sucks just comes off like you don't understand it/are bad at it and that frustration makes you attack it. What is it about the combat that sucks so bad? I personally love the combat. The way you can attack a machines weak points, elemental weaknesses, knocking off pieces, telegraphed attack allow you to dodge with only milliseconds to spare, the different weapons are unique, the choice to be stealthy, laying traps to take out machines that over level you.

Its totally cool if you don't like the game or aspects of it. Maybe it's just not for you. If you feel like it's a chore to play, don't play it. But realize you are in the minority.

I'm in the same boat. Zelda's combat is so boring to me and I don't enjoy using any of the weapons half as much as Aloy's arsenal. Plus Breath of the Wild's world just feels so empty after spending 60 hours exploring Horizon.

Traded in ME:A for this last night and just played through the little tutorial this morning. Horizon is just so much more polished. Can't wait to dig in further though I'm worried I'm gonna suck at the combat.

It really sounds like you're just not good at the game. The combat doesn't suck (subjective, I know), and you're at a point in the game where it shouldn't be difficult to drop most enemies with relative ease. This game just isn't your thing. And that's ok. *shrug*

I'm actually back to playing Witcher 3's expansions now after finishing Horizon, and yeah, the story telling and dialog is so much better in Horizon. Witcher 3's story and dialog (at least in the expansions, since those are closest to me in memory) have the subtlety of a warhammer to the face lots of the time.

Man, Horizon is great and I absolutely respect your opinion on this, but I have to strongly disagree here. I value good writing in games to a large extent and they're just not comparable. A lot of the dialog in Horizon struck me as awkward and ham-fisted, in contrast to TW3 (and especially the first expansion, HoS), where the writing really shines. There were several specific moments where I'd be playing and it felt like the writers thought, "OK, we want to include this deep theme in our cool sci-fi story," and just plunked it down with little thought to subtlety. It's funny that you mention a hammer in connection with TW3's story, because the writers in HZD are almost literally hitting you over the head with what they want to get across at times.

It's an exposition nightmare and maybe the area where the series needs the most improvement.

Even in terms of characters - outside of Aloy, most don't develop beyond archetypes, lending a certain shallowness to characterization.

Again, I think the game is great. But, to me, the writing isn't even in the same ballpark as TW3. Nor would I expect it to be, given one is based on an established novel series and one is a brand new IP.

Nope

I just can't even fathom that opinion. Even the expo is all laid out perfectly and never boring or tedious. Witcher 3 is awesome, but I cringed way more than Horizon.

Yoooo, Guerilla Games and some of the devs liked and retweeted my combat video! :D

I'll just ask again, any impressions of the 3D audio? How immersive does it make the game?
Hey, my friend got the headset and is coming by today so I'll report back with my impression. Personally love ATMOS in theaters so I've been genuinely curious about these and the OssicX.

Sure he is.
He's got self-awareness, and doesn't try to hide what he does under a veil of righteousness. He funnels his dark urges towards ridding the world of bandits, which contribute to the overall good of the world, but he makes no pretense that he himself is a good person. And he's crushing on Aloy, which is kind of cute. He's a very charming character.
