First screenshots of Bandai Namco's Code Vein (UE4, consoles, 2018)

That chracter design...gooddamnit.

If you are going sexualize a female character, at least make it that it dosn't look like a russian street hooker.

Otherwise the screens looks quite good, even the artstyle and background quality makes me go "meh", but I'm spoiled by Souls awesome art direction and detailed backgrounds...

please be on pc as well please be on pc as well :|

if it's really like anime souls then it's gonna be fucking sweet
I don't think you need to be worried there, since it's Namco.
Expect a simultaneous console/PC release.

Yeah, not a fan either, but I can deal with that. The info we have seems to indicate some level of equip customization, though. Maybe they'll be just full outfits, so that won't help, but maybe we can mix and match, that would be great.

I've seen a lot of people comparing it to Tokyo Ghoul, but I have no idea if that's supposed to be good or not. Should I watch it?

Interconnected World, Hard Action RPG, was being teased with the tag #PrepareToDine (reference to Dark Souls 1's Prepare to Die Edition).

Of course, if they'll be able to deliver on that or not remains to be seen, but at least their mentality is on the right place, when it comes to recreating that feeling. The combat system can be anything, and it would be cool if it was vastly different, I'm fine with that. The world design is far more important in making it Anime Souls, to me.
It kind of looks/sounds like a mix between Tokyo Ghoul and Seraph of the End.
Tokyo Ghoul with the masks and that tail-weapon of the girl, Seraph of the End with the post-apocalyptic vampire setting.

Got it. I'll just put it on my manga backlog then.

Well, I have no expectations, so it could help, haha. Not the biggest fan of fighting anime, though.

You should read the manga.

It is basically in the much darker shounen category. Its not a 'fighting series', in that sense.

It's really weird that they announced the game and have shown a bunch of screenshots but won't announce the platforms yet.
Game looks kinda interesting, will keep an eye on it.

well i think it looks fucking awesome... like an Anime Bloodborne... im super into it.

Maybe I am wrong, not sure why but this looks a little much for standard consoles

Scopio/PS4Pro maybe. I fear the downgrade when this finally hits

Think it looks damn good and super interesting. Please be on Scorpio so I can play it at 60 fps.

As posted previous in this thread:

Xbox/Windows Play Anywhere! Just you watch.....

This will be the MS's Bloodborne.

Phil Sensei, ありがとうございました!
Scorpio will be the lead platform this will hit E3 like Rasengan! Dattebayo!

Pretty sure it's published in a seinen magazine.

Edit: Yep.

Oh yeah, it was TG Jack that was a shounen, not the series proper.

You can never tell with series out like SnK, Variante and such. These days many shounen manga try and toe that line as much as they can.

And i'm not talking about try hard nonsense like Akame Ga Kill or Mirai Nikki which sell shock value gimmicks to pretend to be cool.

Er you actually think PS4 and XB1 can't handle this game in a world with Horizon, Batman Arkham Knight and such?

Look at what UE4 has done guys, you take one Japanese dev and give them a little budget and this is what happens.

......bruh

Let It Die is straight up Akira/Violence Jack with a dash of Takashi Miike and Tokyo Gore Police

Again, its got tons of Japanese media tropes, that doesn't mean "anime". If that was the case, every Japanese media creation to ever exist was anime as well.

"Yojimbo has samurai's and flashy moves and over the top shit! It predicted anime the whole time!"

What I don't get is that why a lot of these developers who sexualise female characters (unless if the clothes have a narrative purpose), don't sexualise the male characters. You want to make sexy designs, fine, but while you think you're catering to a heterosexual male demographic, you're missing out on the heterosexual female demographic. It's good business. Don't you like money? Fighting games will sometimes sexualise the male characters, and so will some of the Final Fantasy games, so I don't see the incentive to stick to just one demographic.

You don't think hot boy bishies don't amass a female following? This game looks to have plenty of those. How men being more horny due to their testotarone levels and women being more sophisticated handle fanservice in general is completely different

For most anime or manga fandoms in Japan, it works like this unless your specifically selling yourself to the creepy segment of otaku who buy all the figures for their collection, or your appealing to females specifically.

Naoko Takeuchi never designed the Sailors to be sexualized as they appealed to the shoujou demographic, yet the argument you would hear from the west is that they were designed by males by committee to be sexualized when that was never the case. Its a different type of cultural view.

this looks kind of rad. I passed on God Eater because I'm not that interested in Monster Hunter clones but if this is just a straight up action game then I'm interested.

The only thing I am very suspicious about is the perfect image quality of these shots. Apart from the IQ I see nothing which at least the PS4 wouldn't be able to handle.

The male characters are straight up designed to appeal to female otaku. That is what you don't get, because you think they need to be equally sexualized (i.e. showing the same amount of skin, because that's really all we're talking about here)

The things those two audiences want are not necessarily equal

Why do you think the guys are pretty boys in skin tight clothes if not for that?

These designs definitely don't appeal to all women, but neither do the sexualized female characters appeal to all men. They're made for a very specific audience they are targeting. And that's fine. There are other games made to appeal to other people.

I feel like there's a huge mismatch between the anime faces and the rest.

Inconsistent art style I guess.

That's my 2 cents.

I really wanted to see graphics in the style of the teaser. Instead we have what looks like standard anime. Oh well.

I like everything about the art style minus the anime faces.

Also not announcing platforms seems like maybe its gonna be announced at a Scorpio or maybe Swtich event (looks too high end for that) which I guess is interesting. If it was PS4 / PC they would just announce it because thats not exactly worth hiding for a later reveal.

Hmm, I wonder, is there still a Japanese studio out there stupid enough to make an Xbox exclusive game after the X360 JRPG moneyhats nearly killed the genre? There can't be. I mean, shit, Namco should be aware of what a Deal With the Devil a Microsoft moneyhat is, considering Vesperia's poor sales on Xbox 360 literally killed localizations of the Tales games for five years until they finally decided to localize Xillia after years of petitions, over two years after Japanese release (A hint, Yakuza games barring 5 have a faster localization turnaround than Xillia did because of Vesperia).

I mean, if this IS Scorpio/PC, then Namco would have to be seriously banking on PC sales, because let's be blunt - The audience simply isn't there on Xbox. There is no underserved JRPG fandom on Xbox, if there was, there isn't one anymore at this point. If there still is, they're fools who've had an entire decade to realize they picked the wrong console for JRPGs.

This will not be Xbox exclusive. No one from Bamco or Microsoft is that stupid.

This is a very Japanese project which they also want to sell in Japan I suppose. Which an Xbox exclusivity makes impossible.

Even featuring it at an Xbox event would be super weird because at this point, the audience just isn't there anymore.

How can a moneyhat be stupid if they get paid?
