I'd probably rank the characters like so:

S
Joker: Duh

A
Ryuji: Amazing, consistent physical offense and superb durability. Good support in the form of Matarukaja. Gets Charge endgame.
Ann: Solid magical offense and status utility. Tarunda is extremely useful for bosses. Gets Concentrate endgame.

B
Makoto: Solid magical offense, great general utility and an amazing statline (her HP and SP are both high for some reason). The go-to support character by endgame.
Yusuke: Great physical offense, Rising Slash is amazingly clutch (though ineffective against bosses), Masukukaja is actually great in this game.
Morgana: Solid magic offense and good support. Early access to Mediarama is awesome and he has Lucky/Miracle Punch, giving him significantly more utility against minibosses than most casters.
Haru: Her gun skills are amazing and she has solid support skills, but she joins late.

Okay, I'm at at the 1st of November, and just cleared
Sae
's Palace. I currently have Makoto and Tae at Rank 8, (Ready to reach Rank 10) and Futaba, Yusuke, and Sojiro at Rank 7. I've done & seen both Makoto's and Tae's romance links once as well as their Rank 10s (testing), and am leaning towards Tae in terms of my romance option (preferred her Confidant in general, and that kiss).

I know I can reach Rank 10 with Sojiro, Makoto, and Tae by the 7th. By that time (evening), I can also have Yusuke and Futaba at Rank 7. I am at rank 4+ Proficiency, so I can't start
Haru
's link quite yet. I have max Intelligence/Charm/Kindness. Rank 4 Guts.

Long story short, I'd like to max all of these links by the end of the game if at all possible.

Knowing this, it'd be appreciated if anyone could answer the following questions with as little detail & spoilers as possible.

All answers are very much appreciated.

It's almost December and I still have a lot of confidants to max, I'll definitely not be able to max all but I want to strive for at least Futaba, Ryuji and Ann as far as teammates go (already maxed Yusuke and Makoto). I'm not too bothered though, it's okay.

Also I've been using mostly Yusuke and Makoto because they're my favorite characters and happen to be pretty great, and whoever else I feel like adding, but mostly Ann, new teammate at current dungeon and sometimes Morgana. Ryuji I dropped as soon as I got Yusuke as my MC is already a physical attacker too for the most part. I do love how pretty much everyone is very useful though!

Right now I'm using Haru/Ryuji/Makoto. Haru and Ryuji do so much fucking damage. I think Haru might even surpass Ryuji's damage output with Snipe+Cripple combined with her gun skills. I'm hitting insane numbers.

You won't have any difficulty maxing Sojiro, Takemi, Futaba, Makoto, or Yusuke. They're all but guaranteed with the ranks you've got them at now. Haru should be possible too if you get your proficiency up quickly. What's your rank with Chihaya sitting at? Because her rank 7 ability would really help.

Yeah Haru easily hit the 900 damage range for me by endgame with the right setups. She's only 2nd to Ryuji in terms of Physical damage, and only because Ryuji gets Charge.

I think you should be fine. I maxed out my stats mid november and had Haru at 1 before then and managed to finish all the confidants in general, Fortune is really important though. I barely made everything happen.

The problem is there's a few days you can't really account for where some people just might not show up. But if you're looking just at specific people you want and not everyone I don't think you'd have any issues.

Holy fuck, they must have been determined to make the 5th palace the most grating, repetitive, absolute shit-tier dungeon possible. Long, full of lucky crit-happy enemies, and now this piece of trash "boss".

Any tips for dealing with this shit-stain on Hard mode?

Good to hear in general, but needing Fortune/Chihaya has me worried... I have Chihaya at Rank 3. (Initial Cost & Lackluster Abilities didn't leave a good taste in my mouth... Ignored her to focus on stats and other confidants.)

How screwed am I?

Boss is pretty boring conceptually but I actually had a blast fighting it.

It's basically a baton pass fest. Make sure to cover most elements with personas with good magic stat and you should be fine. Having bonded with Hifumi for the in-battle teammate switching ability helps a lot too, it's the only time I've used it.

I feel like a broken record, but I'm in the pre-palace 5 build up and good lord, Ryuji keeps cementing himself as the absolute worst. Just a piece of shit, haha

I'm specifically keeping an older save so I can hook up my elgato and get a proper screenshot of Futaba calling him a douche.

Are you going for all confidants in general or just the ones in your post? I would say it's only really necessary for everything since it cuts out so much time, just the ones in your post should be totally fine since you're so far along with them anyway. Haru seemed to pretty much always rank up too and didn't need much fortune boosting like I had to do more with some of the night confidants.

Most of your confidants are scheduled in the afternoon. So you can work on tools and stuff like that when Sojiro's not available. Get the luck reading for an extra point.

Well considering the only one of the confidants you want to focus on that is a nighttime one is Sojiro, it couldn't hurt to at least try and get Chihaya up whenever you have time, since it won't interfere with any of the other confidants. Her rank 7 ability lets you pay to gain relationship points with any confidant once per day, which can often make a confidant immediately ready to rank up, rather than having to spend a day with them to close the gap, saving a lot of time. Her rank 1 ability lets you get an additional point for any activities that increase a particular social parameter for that day, which doesn't sound great on its own, but definitely stacks up.
If you devote enough time to getting your proficiency up and Haru, you'd be able to max her without the Fortune bonuses, but with them you'd get it done much sooner and with time to spare on other confidants.

Obviously it could change for endgame but I find around Palace 5 (and for awhile) the girls get killed by the guys. Physical does so much better damage on average then magical and Morgana's healing just outclasses the girls. I only just got Haru so I can't really comment on her. I feel Makoto is the least useful at this point since at least Ann has access to attack down.

Makoto gets all-defense-up, Mediarahan, and Energy Shower. Ann also gets Concentrate for hella Agidynes.

Guys, am I under-leveled?

I'm at the
seventh
palace (near end-game) and having difficulty taking on the boss of that area - specifically,
the Beast of Human Sacriifce.

Right now, my party is on average lvl 59-60 -- I'm getting destroyed by
the Wage War-Rage inducing move, because almost all of my party members will fall for it, including the main protagonist, who will then wail on the boss and get slaughtered by their own physical damage.

Do I need to grind up some levels?

Oh, in that case you should be totally fine with that then, I wouldn't go for Chihaya since it'll take awhile and probably not really pay off just for that.

Akechi just to try him and because you barely get to use him

Haru is daytime and Chihaya is night time.

You can only get the Chihaya bonds at night so it won't conflict with Haru.

I avoided it by predicting it and guarding. He only used it once. Otherwise, you can use Rangda for that turn.

Chihaya's a nighttime confidant, so you don't have to worry about choosing between her and Haru, since Haru's a daytime one. When Chihaya's not available I advise doing Iwai's confidant, since it gives 3 points in proficiency at each rank. Use Chihaya's stat boost before doing this too.

The weak are meat the strong do eat.... until the weak get some kickass demon Pokemon and start beating the shit out of all the evildoing predators.

  2. Proficiency Up (With Chihaya Buff) up when not available (Iwai/Otherwise)
  3. Haru Rank Up when available
Or should I not bother with Chihaya like you said, Papercuts?

tbh any story about the weak and disenfranchised beating the shit out of their oppressors is 100% my jam and I can't even tell you how much I enjoy P5 for this.
