Arnold Schwarzenegger must be up there, too.
Jesus and Muhammed were actually real people? I thought they were characters in the bible, not actually real people.
If this was most famous literary works Bible etc.
It's like someone giving Batman as an answer.
The gregorian calendar is used in a lot of countries nowadays, it sort of became the standard because of trade and whatnot. However that doesn't mean everyone that uses the calendar knows the reason why we are in 2017, as I have posted before in Japan and China they don't refer to 2017 AD but more of 2017 in the western calendar. I guess most of us here in GAF know about the existence of chinese or hebrew calendar, but have you ever bothered to know when they started counting and the reason why they chose their year 1?
Controversial entry: Disney
I wonder how many people actually know that Disney was a person though.
lol wtf is this? You may or may not agree with the teachings of Christianity and Islam, but Jesus and Muhammed were real, historical documented people. They existed. Unless you were trolling and somehow I managed to not pick up those signals.
Hitler.
Edit: I feel like we should limit it to people we factually know existed.
Jesus and Hitler in the western world.
Jesus and Hitler in the western world.
Yeah....We all know Bob alrightBob.
Everyone knows Bob.
The average person in Africa is Christian or Muslim, so they'll know why.Actually I'd like to see evidence that the average person in Africa and Asia knows or even cares why the internationally accepted calendar year is 2017.
They could be familiar with the calendar without having ever heard of Jesus.
This thread is just awful with people who just can't admit Jesus is the most famous person in human history. Someone even try to say there are more followers of Islam than Christianity (you are only about half a billion off). Did he exist? As you state most of the signs point to yes, and at this point it doesn't even really matter. I don't even believe in these religious fairy tales, but people are trying way too hard to deny something that can't really be truly debated.
Jesus is in the Coran.
It's Jesus.
But those who read Coran probably know other characters better than Jesus.

Are we really including fictional characters now? x:Jesus and Mohamed are way over him.
Sometimes I forget they are different personsWhy do so many people rank Muhammad above Buddha?

Hitler.

Agreed. Chill with the religious figures, people.Edit: I feel like we should limit it to people we factually know existed.
Jesus Christ.
Easy answer.
Louis CK did a bit on this. The entire world is counting the years since his supposed birth.
Jesus was real so was Mohammad I'm agnostic born Hindu but I'm not stupid enough to pretend they didn't exist . Santa Claus thoJesus Christ (if he was real, I like to believe he was)
Santa Claus a close second....
But if we need proof of living people
Probably Hitler, don't know where people are getting Julius Ceasar from, do people even talk about him after that one week in junior high and that other week in highschool.
People like to associate Hitler with everything....Everything.
Agreed. Chill with the religious figures, people.
Wait ppl in this thread actually think Jesus didn't exist .... Ridiculous . You may not believe in Christianity but that's some next level fake newsBeing a religious figure doesn't mean there wasn't a real man called Jesus who was crucified. There may be tales and myths written about him but there was almost certainly a man who lived 2017~ years ago that inspired those stories.
Is there actually any evidence that the jesus in the bible is a real person though?
I don't know much about the Coran, so maybe I'll end up saying something really silly, but is it really enough to have Jesus in the Coran to say he's famous to muslims? I mean, I know Jesus is there and they have a different view of him than christians, but I remember reading some years ago that there were a lot of illiterate muslims so unless Jesus stories are constantly taught to these people, they wouldn't know that his name is in the Coran as they can't read.Jesus is in the Coran.
It's Jesus.
I guess sheer amount of followers, christianity has something like 2 billion followers and islam 1.5 billion, while buddhism has maybe 400 million. But this somewhat ignores that buddha is known to a lot of chinese, just like confucius and lao tzu, even if they are not buddhist per se.Why do so many people rank Muhammad above Buddha?
By your own admission, it's not 100% clear that he did exist. Hence why I agreed with the big homie that mentioning religious figures is daft.Being a religious figure doesn't mean there wasn't a real man called Jesus who was crucified. There may be tales and myths written about him but there was almost certainly a man who lived 2017~ years ago that inspired those stories.
Hitler.

Can I show you a few files that say climate change is not real and vaccinations cause autism? That is the level of discussion you are having here.By your own admission, it's not 100% clear that he did exist. Hence, stop mentioning religious figures.
Hitler.
I think Alexander is more famous than Caesar, I mean you don't have any countries fabricating history to try and claim descent from Caesar.
