Persona 5 |OT2| Someone must have been helping you go to bed early. Talk!

This is my first Persona game and I've got to say I'm enjoying it very much. What an absolute joy it is to play. I didn't think I'd like the combat (because I generally hate it in rpgs) but the combat is so fun and made everyone manual instead of automatic unlike when I had started.

I ran into my first issue, though:
I had waited til the very last day to finish up the first Palace, thinking I'd fight the boss and be done with it. But then it tells me I need to go back into the real world and do some stuff - effectively giving me a game over screen. Okay. So I go back a week prior and do it again, and instead finish the palace 2 days before. I get to the end again, and the calling card needs time to be written and sent. This would be fine if I didn't think that it would be sent within the next day (which was the last day) - which it wasn't. I get another game over screen.

I'm kinda frustrated now. What's the optimal time to be finishing up a dungeon? What benefits do you get from ending it way before the deadline? Or does it not matter? I was assuming I needed the entirety of it to build up my stats for a boss fight, but... I don't know? Is it like this for all the palaces? Should I be trying to finish them 3+ days before the deadline?

Despite that, I'm having such a fun time with this game. I really want to get into P4G now, as it was something that I had wanted to play ever since P5 was announced.

Re: Palaces:
Infiltrate Palaces (as in, be ready to send the Calling Card) well before the deadline. You're free to send the calling card at your discretion between then and the deadline. Use the extra time for whatever you want, just be sure to be equipped and Persona'd out for when you send the calling card. And worry not, any remaining time will not be wasted.

And yeah, P4G and even P3P/P3FES will be well worth your time if you enjoy P5. Just note that they're quite different in terms of dungeon design and combat.
I was coping with this games way too literal translations and keeping of stuff like keikaku all the way up til they translated a VERY OBVIOUS YAKUZA as "mafia". What is even the balance at that point? Your co-workers are putting out games TITLED Yakuza. With better translations nowadays even.

Also they need to greatly assess the calendar system in future games. I still want that daily progression, but it almost feels like the Video rental dudes letting you skip on late fees is someones commentary on "yeah we know this system is broken with all the forced skip afternoons".

I am really enjoying the game, but I can sense that this is a product from 5 years ago that finally managed to stumble out this year. It's visually incredibly polished, but beyond that I can see why the director wanted to skip out onto a whole new franchise.
They do mention the yakuza in the game, IIRC, so I think it's meant to be a distinct group, separate from them.

The dungeons don't work very well with he calendar system either. They waste the first day going in and then exiting. Then some dungeons have another day wasted because you need to go in the real world to proceed. You then waste two days for the calling card and treasure. The way some of the S links work in this one is annoying too. Some have requirements like going into Mementos or working part-times jobs a number of time to proceed. It's done to put pressure on you but coupled with the days where you are too tired and cannot do anything because you've listened to your friend repeating the same thing than the day before it gets irritating.

Gotta say I didn't hate palace 5

Maybe it was my lowered expectations from all the complaining, lol

Yeah I could see why people didn't like it, but I really didn't have any problems with it personally. A little too long, but a majority of the palaces were.

11/18 boss question:

Joker is level 54, and the thieves guild says the average level floats around 57-59 for Shadow Sae. Is she gonna smoke me?

I didn't hate it either except for getting the ID cards. I thought Palace 7's gimmick was way more tedious.
Oh boy how about long hallways where we become weak mice and unlock doors!

September overall is the worst month in the game though.
Rushed Hawaii trip, bad introduction for Haru, height of insufferable "oh man the Phantom Thieves will be so famous!", and the one point in the game I hated Morgana.

You're fine. (11/18 spoilers)
I fought her at level 52 on Normal. Just be prepared to heal and bring some Personas with solid defensive/buff capabilities. The average level, I've noticed, is massively inflated over what you need most of the time.

At this point you had the flu season so of course the levels will be inflated :/

Good to hear, cheers.

Oh. What does it actually do? I've seen people mention it before but never checked it out myself.

Easy

When you encounter the Reaper in Mementos (just wait for it to appear on any floor) sometimes he'll get the Despair status effect due to the Flu Season. In a few turns of just defending he'll die from despair. Netting you over 70,000 experience

Fantastical

Death Prophet
Hm, there's an icon over Yongen-Jaya indicating I can interact with a confidant but I can't find one... it's at night. Clinic is a no-go and Sojiro doesn't have the icon over him. It's Wednesday so I can't call Kawakami. What am I missing?

Press square on the map with Yongen-jaya selected.

Agree about the animations. I've been noticing the different character's postures the entire time I've played--some sitting straight, others slouching in class, etc; it's all really impressive--made me realise how few games even try to capture that aspect of life.

Really wish this game had a hide interface option like Steins;Gate just to better look at the scene composition.

So something kinda weird happened last night. While I was fighting a group of Titanias, I pressed R1 because I forgot her weakness for a second (it's psychic), and the game made Makoto point her gun at them for some reason, saying that "guns are effective", I thought maybe I had a gun with psychic damage or whatever so I played along, but they weren't weak to it.

Then I pressed R1 with Yusuke to be sure and the same happened, I double checked her element affinities and nope, only weak go psychic. Then I just attacked wigh psiodyne and surely enough that was the right weakness, but this kept happening during other encounters...

This is a very minor thing but it's so weird lol. Is the game thinking all enemies with wings are supposed to be weak to gun damage without exception or something?

Also I commented on this before but I think Ose is the only demon with alternative idle animations when you're fighting more than one if them lol.

Press Square on the map and it will show you the available Confidants in that area.
The reaper has a 20% chance of being despaired. He does nothing and commits suicide after 3 turns. So you get 72 000 XP each time.

Only R1 bug I've noticed is that it occasionally won't detect that the MC has a weakness-skill on an alternate Persona. It's annoying.

I'm not sure what causes it.

Can someone help me out here?

(very minor confidant and mementos requests spoilers)

I've beaten the game and am currently blitzing through NG+ to max out all confidants and work towards the Platinum, but I've hit a roadblock with
Mishima
.

I'm currently in early November in the build-up to
Palace 6
and everyone is at, or very close to max, yet he's nowhere to be found. It's my understanding that progressing his confidant is tied to finishing Mementos quests, and I've done every request available right now. Since I've been blasting through the game, I've missed some of his texts for earlier requests (I've missed
Justice for Cats, Man of Many Faces and Debts and One Who Bullies Bullies
).

He's at rank 9 so I only need to hang out with him one more time, but I feel like I've ran out of mementos quests to make him appear, and now I'm regretting ignoring his messages. I really don't want to have to go through the game again, as I'm beginning to reach my tether with it as is. What's worse is that I've read conflicting reports saying that he
disappears after Palace 6
, which would mean this whole run was basically for nothing.

Can anyone confirm whether or not he appears again after
Palaces 6 & 7
? Do the 'mandatory' end of area Mementos requests count towards his confidant progress?

Press square on the world map and it should tell you.

I don't know if it's a glitch or not, but sometimes Sojiro s.link time only triggers if I go out and then get back to Leblanc.

Or maybe i'm just imagining things lol.

IIRC if you leave Leblanc during Afternoon and go back inside it will transition to Night, when Sojiro is available. That might be what's happening.

Persona 3 and 4 have the same weird quirk when you return to your house. I don't really understand it.

I finished his SLink in October, and I could get it to max without having done one of the quest you missed, for the same reason. Not sure if he spawns in December though.

I was about your level on normal and had no issues. I mean levels are kind of important but I have found with Persona games managing your personas and their stats and skills and those of your enemies to be so much more important. I definitely play Persona games differently and more thoughtful than average RPGs.

Look for me on the local news, I'll be the guy arrested for trying to burn down a Nintendo exec's house.

Yeah this stuff is driving me kinda crazy.

Mementos being separate from Palaces means having to sacrifice days between what type of grinding I want to do/progression. Then investigation story stuff just swallowing 3 days at a time.

The writing just doesn't seem there this time too. The concepts are all top notch, but whether its the translation or just total by the books tropes, I'm not getting the 'pop' to S-Links that 3 and 4 offered. I seem to give less of a shit about their stories and just want the abilities they're unlocking. There's entire stuff I just haven't really bothered with due to it absorbing too much time like watching DVD's, going to the movies, making coffee or whatever happens with the fridge. Studying on rainy days and getting that one point of guts at the Diner and doing the med baths just seem like the route until I max those.

I'm only in June, Palace unlocked and ready to go through so maybe some of the better stuff awaits. It may well still be my GOTY, but P3 and P4 would beat it. A bit like how Dark Souls 3 was a great game but just didn't have that evolution to it.

You need to
1) craft them yourself
2) some stuff like GohoM will already be in your inventory as the game gives a few to you, but to get the trophy you need to craft that as well.

Be sure to reload once you get the trophy though, so that you can gain back the lost time. This is what you can do for books and games as well. I did played most of the games in in one stretch, got the trophy and then reloaded. I didn't really have to do this for books as firstly there are a fuck ton of books and secondly you get lots of free time to read in class and trains.

So wait, you read a book that is 1/2 done to complete it, then it's done and you load the save before it, yet the game recognizes it as finished for the trophy even though it's still only 1/2 done in the overview? -Edit: Oh I understand now, you mean to play all the games then after getting the trophy loading an earlier state, that's actually what I've done at the batting cages before. -I guess playing through all the games will take about 15 days eh?

I swear Ryuji is becoming more and more insufferable with every new event. The beach event, what a cunt. I swear if he wasn't part of the team I feel that everyone wouldn't put up with his shit.

He's now in contention to usurp that dumb bitch Yosuke as The Worst.

And I'm so sick of the guys acting like pervs around the girls that are supposed to be THEIR FRIENDS.

Finished palace 6.

Suspected akechi a bit. Didn't think he was that deep involved. Just thought he was a pawn. I already suspected getting captured was part of the plan. The whole fake death using the metaverse was a nice drop.

Maybe that's why they feel comfortable acting that way with them? Not too sure that kind of behavior is unheard of in real life, especially regarding teenagers.

Okay first of all I don't buy that shit. My friends didnt blatantly oogle and stare and make comments about girls that they were supposed to be friends with. And it's not like one time. The palace 4 anime scene and the beach scene both have them, especially Ryuji, blatantly obejctifying Ann.

I'm just tired of this juvenile ass shit. Make up your minds, you either have a mature game with positive themes about being yourself or whatever the fuck, or you have stupid ass animu teenage shit. Stupid ass shit like this just seems desperate and takes away from their supposed main themes.

And also I just hate Ryuji so yeah. Stop making awful characters like this idiot too while you're at it, Persona team.

Well, I made it to the end! Even if I have my problems with some things in the game, I really liked it. The last stretch
from Palace 7's Calling Card onwards
was really good, too, especially as the story up until there was a bit too predictable for my tastes.

I'll miss the Phantom Thieves.

Currently getting my shit stomped in by (Late game spoilers)
Palace 7's boss.
This fight is really fun and challenging. Also the music is superb.

NG+

Busy sacrificing Futsunushis (lvl 81) into Moonman (lvl ~30), aka my "abuse the shit out of confuse trick" persona.

Caroline's only comment: "Hahaha, wow inmate! That's DARK."

Even repeated 100x in quick succession, this never gets old.
