The bit about Merkel and him saying someone must've shouted "Shake her hand!" and he didn't hear them...

Isn't there a video of Merkel saying "Do you want to shake hands?" literally next to his ear?

She directly asks him, if the gif is to be believed, and he ignores her.

I love how they use "AP" instead of the name of the reporter who drew the short straw that day. I know that's the convention, because it allows you to read the interview without imagining the the reporter. In an transcript like this, s/he is supposed to be invisible, since the reader's focus should be on the subject of the interview. And yet you read this --

-- and it's strangely humanizing. You can almost hear her brain breaking. I like to think of "AP" as the nameless, faceless, long-suffering avatar of the Associated Press. S/he has seen war, terror and suffering. S/he has interviewed madmen, titans and tyrants. But none have been quite as baffling as Donald Trump. 170 years of journalism has come down to this.

AP is all of us. So here's to you AP. Thanks for taking one for the team.

We are all AP.

All of these interviews remind me of what students do when they don't know the answer to an essay question, so they fill 1000 words with Bullshit. He's literally bullshitting on the fly all the time when the question is directly addressing him and his actions.

And remember, according to that ABC poll 96% of people that voted for him are happy they did. I think people enjoy all these clear flaws. Intelligence can be seen as "uppity" to certain communities, and people like seeing a bullshitter at the top rather than someone that thinks they are smarter and better than you

“Well he said, you’ll be the greatest president in the history of, but you know what, I’ll take that also, but that you could be. But he said, will be the greatest president but I would also accept the other. In other words, if you do your job, but I accept that. Then I watched him interviewed and it was like he never even was here. It’s incredible. I watched him interviewed a week later and it’s like he was never in my office. And you can even say that.”

What.

What's so hard to understand? He said he'll be the greatest in the history of, but you know what, that you could be he takes it also. But he said will be the greatest president but he would also accept the other.

So obviously if he does his job, but he accepts that. Then he watched him interviewed and it's like he never even was here. He watched him interviewed a week later and it's like he never was in the office.

And of course you can even say that.

I mean, it's not rocket science.

By the way, has anyone really been far as decided to use even go want to do look more like?

Some of you are getting really good at this. May your new found Art of the Deal skills allow you to fail upward in life. Maybe you can be President too!

all his answers are the ones you come up with when you didn't do the reading and get called on in class because the teacher knows you're full of shit.

As someone who did this through most all of school? No way. You at least need to know the general context of the class, sort of what's being asked, and what everyone else in class has said. Then you can formulate an opinion right there and pretend like it's actually your's.

I out debated people who had painstaking read old English with the skimming I did on sparknotes as I walked to class.

Frankly, I'm insulted by his presidency. In a country that is continuing to devalue education and lower standards, our president cannot answer fucking simple questions.

I'm not even talking about the alphabet soup slipping from his pursed lips, I'm talking "the motherfucker didn't answer a single question"

Not like Betsy Devos sidestepping: that frustration takes skill. He just can't. No one who actually knows what's happening in the workplace they're in charge of would answer questions like this.

If he did, he'd know what issues to sidestep and what parts of policy to emphasize to cover his weakness with other, but he cant. The guy can't even bullshit an answer and the rest of the government is cool with keeping him in there despite blatantly having buisiness ties because he hasn't nuked anyone yet.

Our cool government. Thanks for putting microphones in my power strips for this.

The only Trump supporter I know isn't the smartest person. He kept saying "I think he'll be good for the country" without ever elaborating on why and as far as I know stopped watching the news again after the election, not that he watched much during. He has no idea what's going on and if you try to tell him he shrugs and acts like it's not worth talking about. He doesn't know that Trump said these words and doesn't care.

And do the people who get all of their news from Fox even know he said any of these words, or see most of his stupid shit without someone there to explain to them why it's good?

Trump said:
TRUMP: I don’t know yet. People want the border wall. My base definitely wants the border wall, my base really wants it — you’ve been to many of the rallies. OK, the thing they want more than anything is the wall. My base, which is a big base; I think my base is 45 percent. You know, it’s funny. The Democrats, they have a big advantage in the electoral college. Big, big, big advantage. I’ve always said the popular vote would be a lot easier than the electoral college. The electoral college — but it’s a whole different campaign (unintelligible). The electoral college is very difficult for a Republican to win, and I will tell you, the people want to see it. They want to see the wall, they want to see security. Now, it just came out that they’re 73 percent down. ... That’s a tremendous achievement. ... Look at this, in 100 days, that down to the lowest in 17 years and it’s going lower. Now, people aren’t coming because they know they’re not going to get through, and there isn’t crime. You know the migration up to the border is horrible for women, you know that? (Unintelligible.) Now, much of that’s stopped because they can’t get through.

I think my brain exploded trying to read this.
(unintelligible screaming)

This interview was -- I mean, can you believe that, I mean of course you do because -- just unbelievable, tremendous interview -- Obama wrecked the US but Trump is just making America great again, like you wouldn't even understand, also the safest it's ever -- I mean, the borders, he's securing them -- he has to build that wall, everybody wants that wall, the wall will happen, there will be a wall, and it will be an amazing wall, also the cheapest wall, it will be tremendous and cheap, believe him, it will be tremendous, that he can tell you -- and his healthcare plan, I mean, Obamacare is destroying the country, people's health, he's preparing an amazing plan, to bring the costs down while also, you know, and it will be just so good, great, just great -- the wall won't be that expensive, the fake media keep saying it is, I hear some numbers, 25 billions, 30 billions, billions and billions of dollars, but it will be much cheaper than that -- can you believe that, now he has to have a heart, before he didn't, now he has, people's lives are at stake and he has to have a heart now -- he spoke to foreign leaders, dozens and dozens of them, and they all like his heart, he has the best heart, just great, great heart, also the best negotiator, the best President, like you wouldn't even believe, just amazing deals.

He can't even read off a fucking teleprompter without going off-script and saying stupid shit.

He'll start reading the script and then it's as if an idea or correlation suddenly pops into his head, and he thinks, "OH YEA! I'll MENTION THAT in SOME HALF-ASSED WAY, WITH NO SEGUE AND NO CONTEXT, RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF MY AWFUL SPEECH!!! THOSE YAHOOS WILL LOVE IT BECAUSE IT SOUNDS LIKE A GUY WORKING ON A CONSTRUCTION SITE WITH A LUNCH PAIL AND A HARD HAT - THOSE GUYS LOVE ME!! THEY LOVE MY TOUGH-GUY TALK! OH, YEA - THROW HER IN JAIL!!!"

It's so nauseating.

man of the people, not preaching from his exalted perch in long winded patronizing diatribes punctuated with uhhhhhs and ummmmms. if you can somehow remove the rose colorded glasses of elitism affixed to your faces then its reather easy to see how trump won and continues to win.

i'd love to be a fly on the wall when leaders of other nations come together and talk about their experience with Trump behind closed doors. They certainly say stuff like "this idiot doesn't know anything"

The man can barely speak coherently. If observing that is elitist, pass me the Rothschild Lafite 1908.

Wow...As a mathematician currently working in the US (not citizen yet), I am seriously considering moving to Canada, if you guys continue to vote this inept person for another 4 years.

I almost feel the greatest country on the planet earth is really really anti-intellectual, and somehow many persons are proud to be anti-intellectual.

lol. Perfect.

Wanting the leader of the free world to be able to string together sentences is now elitism.

I've never heard anyone in my life speak as incoherently as he does. It's like there are synapse gaps, or corrupted memory files in his brain that cause random words to mix in with whatever he's trying to say. His brain just grabs any association it can, and then lashes it together and out it goes. It's really fucking bizarre.

This has to be some kind of degenerative mental condition. His brain doesn't work.

Listening to this guy speak is going to give me a brain aneurysm. I recognize the words as English but they dont come together as coherent thoughts.

TRUMP: OK. The one thing I've learned to do that I never thought I had the ability to do. I don't watch CNN anymore.

AP: You just said you did.

TRUMP: No. No, I, if I'm passing it, what did I just say (inaudible)?

AP: You just said —

TRUMP: Where? Where?

AP: Two minutes ago.
And they said that it was Hillary the one suffering dementia/alzheimer/mental weakness/etc...

I just heard from a Trump supporter on NPR this morning. I wanted to ram my car into the divider. These people live in an alternate dimension.

I sometimes watch Anderson Cooper because I want to get angry. The last segment he does every night where a field reporter talks to Trump supporters all around the US is almost compelling enough to want to make you put a shotgun to your face.

The most charitable description I can give of this interview is that he sounds like a student who didn't do a bit of assigned reading the entire semester giving an oral exam. Or a wholly unqualified person in a job interview completely outside their field. Just random bouts of words meant to fill the space in which an "I don't know" would be a more acceptable answer.

I don't think he's done his homework. And that's being generous.

The transcript is bonkers. Such a disgrace to have to talk to this man about anything of substance.

And can intelligent interviewers stop "leading the witness?" I feel like these guys are throwing Trump an oar sometimes by giving him words and responses in the form of follow-ups or when simplifying their questions for his brain solely in order to get SOMETHING, ANYTHING to print or quote. They touch on a trigger and then he rattles on his word salad for a while. Example:

AP: One more 100 days question.

TRUMP: That's fine.

AP: ... is do you think you have the right team in place for your next 100 days?

TRUMP: Yes. I think my team has been, well, I have different teams. I think my military team has been treated with great respect. As they should be. I think my other team hasn't been treated with the respect that they should get. We have some very talented people, and very diverse people.

AP: Do you mean your White House team when you say that?

TRUMP: Yeah, my White House team. I think Reince (Priebus) has been doing... (response goes on)

I'm pretty sure someone's written some kind of algorithm that talks like Trump by this point.

We already have it, it's called Keep Pressing the Middle Option in Autocomplete.

AP: Can you elaborate on your tax reform?
Cheeto: I think I can find it online and atom the best looming over a new JOB and the timer is is not anything to worry about it is that i need to talk is when i will make for the keyboard for me to see if i can text all right with this is what robber barons and the timer is not anything to worry about it is that i need to talk is when i when i will make for the keyboard for me to see if i can text all right with this is what robber barons and the timer is not anything to worry about it is that i need to talk is when i will make for the keyboard for me to see if i can text all right with this is what robber barons and the timer is not anything to worry anything to worry about it is that i need to talk is when i will make for the keyboard for me to see if i can text all right with this is what robber barons and robber barons and the timer

That's what he always sounds like when you ask him about a topic. He answers like a student who didn't do the homework, but has to write 4-6 sentences about the subject.

So Trump is a highly elaborate Turing Test?

Of course he's always sounded like that, but it seems to be getting worse. As though the stress of actually assuming the presidency is exacerbating his deficiencies.
