Square Enix lists upcoming games, doesn't list Kingdom Hearts 3 as 2017

Pretty crazy a company puts a console sequel to a multimillion selling series on the back log for 10+ years. Normally that happens with dying franchises lol.

If it's not 2018 then meh i just can't accept any later than that.

Edit: It's about KH3 :p
Edit 2: yes i played the portable games but the console games are a league on their own, BBS was epic tho.

It is full of hope that it is still listed as a game, not as a write-off.
So people rejoice. Someday within 2018 it may be released. For that reason. PS4Pro and MS Scorpio will be there, waiting patiently, to welcome Kingdom Hearts III.
Otherwise, say hello to PS5 and MS Xbox whatever-is-next. Patience is a virtue after all.

He blew enough of the budget then bailed on the dumpster fire.

Citation needed?

I need you to actually give evidence for what your saying. you don't just make claims like "he blew throught he budget and then bailed on the dumpster fire" when the game was not even being developed most of the time. If you have to actually make up things about the director's role, that is unfair.

Secondly, as i said, the end result of whether or not FF15 launched unfinished was not up to anyone in the development staff, it was company interjection forcing Tabata to release what they had.

Tabata had a plan to launch the game as fast as they could through various rewrites, cut content, outsourcing parts to CGI movies and anime that could be made concurrently with the game development and such, but it was not fast enough for Square enix. Thus even that revised plan was cut into pieces.

lol FFXV had enough for a full length CG movie ,anime, companion games and a mass marketing event in LA exclusively for itself.

Sounds like more than enough budget was left over after Nomura blew it all!

Literally no one was surprised.2018 is a question marktoo

Fucking ridiculous. I actually bought a PS3 to play this game. I've about lost complete interest at this point.

This company is seriously the biggest joke when it comes to releasing games in a timely manner.

The OP needs to be updated. As I said on the last page, SE is in FY18 currently

http://www.hd.square-enix.com/eng/ir/library/financial.html#y2017

They label their fiscal years with the end year date not the beginning (so if the FY ends in 2018, at the start they call it FY18)

FFXV is a FY17 game that came out in calender year 2016

In that same slide it shows FFXIV expansion releasing in FY18 with a date of June 20 2017

I stopped caring, just like FFXV.

I thought for sure I would buy FFXV even after I said I stop caring and yet never did. No desire to play it either.

I do hope this game is released eventually and well received. KH 1, Chain of Memories and 2 were magical experiences for me as a kid

Why was Nomura given Final Fantasy VII Remake?

Is he really the most competent one there to provide a remake of that game -- while making Kingdom Hearts III?

It's not a 2017 game anyway as in the slide the other games have a blue text saying releasing in 2017 while FFVIIR and KH3 don't

Nomura wasn't responsible for FF15's end result.
Normally when you're taken off the team you aren't given two more additional projects to sit on. Why can't they just let him draw characters and have little inputs here and there like Miyamoto?

Final Fantasy XII, XIII, XIV, and XV all went through development hell. I like some of those games much more than I like the others, but I don't think it's fair to blame the extended development on the directors when it's clear that there's a managerial issue affecting the entire franchise. And it'd be especially unfair to blame some of the directors selectively but absolve some of the others just because I like some of the end products more.

Saying that XII got delayed for years because Matsuno is a tortured genius that the suits fucked over and XIII/XV got delayed for years because Toriyama and/or Nomura is a piece of shit would be terrible analysis *and* wildly unfair.

I'm putting my money on lots of ill-advised big-budget set pieces. KH2 was really chasing the QTE trend at the time with its reaction commands, and KH3's Attraction Flow bits look like they're designed to do the same thing with Uncharted-style set pieces.

It's a shame. Kingdom Hearts should really focus on being a fucking excellent ARPG with tight combat and lots of content and super-polished character animation - it's at its very best when it does so.

I argue all the time that the FNC games all turned out terrible because it was just all of SE's worst practices coming home to roost, and had nothing to do with any specific developer. The "HD era" just magnified them and made it super obvious.

I still think that KH1 was the pinnicle of KH's combat, it relied on its mechanics alone to make battles interesting, and alot of that was thrown out the window come KH2 with the focus on reaction commands.

Had to see Versus' "reboot" through to the end throwing more money into the pit. It is their largest most historically popular franchise. Bet they not happy with its overall sales.

I bet he would like a break. He says he's overworked and his colleagues don't recognize it.

They should have never made the XIII sequels and just worked straight on VersusXIII.

The game seems to have sold ok relative to expenses. It sold more than titan fall 2.

He's not sitting on them OH MY GOD.

Guys, guys...you keep repeating the same things but let me ask you

What the heck do you people think CC2 and Osaka team are flipping doing

Tai yasue has Osaka team completely on his own, nomura does not direct the project that is KH3 day to day! He is more like creative director for that project. Further, CC2 is a very competent studio and have been assigned a challenge.

There is literally no proof of Nomura being incompetent as a director to the point where this FUD is justified

Makes sense to announce a game in 2013 only to have it come out until 2018

Makes total sense.

I dont fucking understand this company and the abhorent miss management that happens with these projects for the life of me. Are there any devs here who were put on games that took 5+ years to come out? Not looking for specifics just an insight into the project, i dont want to see like im getting unreasonably impatient.

Not surprised at all. Told myself and my friends that it won't be out until 2018 at the earliest when it was first announced at E3. Also....notice the "and beyond" part....KH3 may not even come out in 2018. :D
FF7Re won't be until 2020 at the earliest.

If you like we can blame SE Japan instead of Nomura, but everyone would react the same regardless. Because this?

Literally no one expected it this year.....did they???

Is embarassing. Because we've been doing it EVERY year since we first saw it revealed.

"No way it comes out in 2014. Maybe 2015."

"...People really thought it was going to come out in 2015? There's no way we see this before 2016."

"Nah, 2016 sounds absurd. 2017. Maybe."

In 2017: "Literally no one expected it this year, did they??!"

And on and on we continue. If we don't see anything substantial this year people will kick it down the road and 2019 will be the soonest we see it, according to everyone. Fuck hype. Stop announcing projects you JUST got a greenlight on, because this will keep happening. If FFXVI appears at E3 I just might throw my laptop into the wall. :p

To be perfectly fair, when we talk about announcement to release, that usually does not take into account development time for a lot of studios.

So Fallout 4 for example started development before Skyrim was even out, but launched quite close to its announcement just because they announced it very late in development.

Nomura himself said right after they announced the KH3 in 2013 that it was too early to have announced it, but they made the decision specifically to sate those people who had been asking for years where KH3 was.

If they had announced it in 2015 or even 2016, it probably would have been better i agree, but it doesn't change the development pipeline of how far it took them to get to this point

Fiscal Year 2017 ended in March for SE. The 2018 and beyond just means that that graphic is meaningless.

Edit: Missed the dates under logos.
