Android Wear |OT| 2nd Gen is Here

Can't blame you. Then make the jump and switch to Android... we have more fun anyways, and nifty things like NFC, Bluetooth with aptX and headphone jacks. :D

Even though it's compatible, you'll just get a very gimped experience, I wouldn't advise Wear + iOS to any user.

I dont like the Android user experience. Ive had 2 android tablets, and tried the phones (S6 Edge Plus, Droid by HTC) briefly before returning it.

Android also doesnt work with my car connectivity, unless i do bluetooth, but thats limited.

Also no syncing with everything on my ipad pro.

As long as Android Wear on iOS can provide me with the basic connectivity features, im fine with it.

Such as imessage, mail, weather notifications. Thats mostly what i want as far as how they interact. Oh and music controls.

Anyone else has crazy battery drain after the last couple Android wear app updates? Mine would drain 20% within an hour in the morning. Factory reset didn't do anything. But what finally fixed it was getting a new Nexus phone with Nougat on it. I wonder if Google did something with the Wear app that expect certain Nougat behaviors.

Every so often this happens, I have no idea why. It doesn't seem to correspond with any particular reason, only a watch restart and recharge resolves it for me.

What watch are you using? I haven't had any problems after replacing my bloated OG 360 battery

Zenwatch 2. A few people are complaining about it on their forum as well and Asus is looking into the problembut I find it interesting that it went away immediately after I'm on nougat.

Google's added new watches to the (US) Playstore. The Nixon Mission, the Michael Kors Dylan and, one that I hadn't heard about before, the Polar M600

Squarish transflective display, GPS, Heart monitor, Waterproof enough for swimming ― it's the improved version of the Sony smartwatch that they refuse to make. I'd like to see some nice non sports straps for it first though

ok, after using this Gear Fit 2 for a month or so and seeing the usefulness of wearables, i saw the stupid Huawei Watch for $160 Manufacturer Refurbished was on ebay via Newegg so i picked it up.

what cool stuff can i do with this?

Get Watchmaker Pro.

Download watch faces you like.

Customize them to have exactly what you want.

Huawei Watch vs LG Urbane 2 - which to get? I don't use the LTE module and I don't wear suits. Can't decide which to get after the death of Pebble and my defective Pebble Time :(

So, Um, new watches are coming out. Disappointed with the LG ones but I hope the new huawei and ZTE watches are contenders.

I wish a watch with a modern soc would debut in the near future though.

Seriously, my OG Moto 360 is falling apart and i need a new watch,

The SOC isn't changing because Qualcomm isn't bothered. More modern cheaper chips are either too expensive or heat up more.

Wear 2.0 should start going out Feb 15th. Can't wait.

i kind of figured as much, which is a damn shame because smartwatches would benefit from a soc upgrade way more than phones at this point. a 10nm cortex a35 chip would go a long way to alleviating the speed, battery, and size woes that reviewers have.

buying something that still has a cortex a7 28nm chip feels kind of wrong.

2.0 is sounding pretty good. I especially like the goal reminder if it works well.

Now onto fitness. Android Wear 2.0 has Google's preinstalled Fit app just as before, but the experience is much improved. You can see your calories, pace and distance as you sweat it out, and if your watch has a heart rate sensor, you'll see your beats per minute too. It also keeps track of how much you've been walking and cycling throughout the week and offers gentle reminders to get going toward your goal if you haven't met your mark. Plus, it will congratulate you when you succeed.

The new Google Fit is also a lot better suited to indoor workouts as well. Simply say you're on a treadmill or a stationary bike and it'll track your workout accordingly. Another great feature for strength training fans is that it can also now count reps when you're weight lifting and coach you through push-ups and sit-ups. "The watch actually recognizes that you're doing it," Singleton says. "So there's no cheating."

I'd really like to get android watch but these things are so bulky and I'd also prefer to have a square/rectangle face vs a round face. Apple watch seems to be the best form factor for me but I don't have or want an iPhone.

SAD

Not even. When the Moto 360 was announced years ago everyone was saying how big it was but it looks fine even on my anorexic looking wrist.

There's plenty of Android Wear square watches, they're older though.

I'm looking for a device that will support android wear 2.0 so old ones are out. Essentially all devices that support AW2.0 are round.

While it may 'look fine' on your wrist doesn't make it not bulky.

Asus Zenwatch 2 is square and it will support Android Wear 2.0.

True it's on my radar, I have some reservations buying a device that's 2+ years old already. Would like NFC for Android pay but that narrows things even more. :(

I guess you want square, but Asus Zenwatch 3 is pretty great. It's round but not overly large (imo). I got it as a Christmas gift and I'm really enjoying it.

I'm not totally against round. I just think it's a waste of real estate when it comes to these devices. I'll take a look at the Zenwatch 3 too.

The TAG Heuer Connected Modular 45, The Company's First 'Swiss Made' Smartwatch

Why Intel put a smartphone chip in TAG Heuer's $1,650 smartwatch

I think this is the first Android/Wear smartwatch with both Cellular capabilities AND user replaceable standard straps. The replaceable body is a useful touch and means it won't be obsolete in a year. I'd be all over this if it were cheaper.

Looks gorgeous but that price :jnc

I really love my Asus Zenwatch 3, which was like $230.

So my first gen Moto 360 started dying not too long ago and I was in the market for a new smart watch. I hadn't been paying too much attention to the market recently, but I was pretty disappointed with the newer ones. All I wanted was a good NFC watch without LTE and a slightly better battery life than my Moto 360. Unfortunately, that watch is not on the market yet, so after deciding I can live without NFC for a while, I went with the Asus Zenwatch 3.

I'm really liking it so far. Pretty stylish. Lasts more than a day in always on mode. The screen looks great. The extra customizable buttons are really useful (I have one set to Shazam). Price is reasonable. Only drawbacks are the aforementioned lack of NFC, and the strap being propriety with no other options available yet.

My og 360 is literally falling apart, still waiting for a good replacement. Not paying full price for a smartwatch anymore.

The following watches were in the first batch of OTAs to 2.0:

Fossil Q Founder
Casio Smart Outdoor Watch
Tag Heuer Connected

Good to see some watchmakers at least giving this a decent effort finally. The Movado and Misfit watches are the only ones that aren't too ugly to wear, in my opinion, but Misfit lacks NFC and Movado lacks HR. They're also both still too thick.

I too would like to see another non-circular effort from Sony.

Yeah, it works now, unlike the awful initial release that thankfully got stopped from rolling out. 5 second lag on interactions was baaaad. It works great now.

Amazon has the Huawei 1 on sale for $199. Really tempted to upgrade from my Zenwatch 2 but I can't help but feel I should wait for the next batch of new watches to come out. It's a shame what they did with the Huawei 2. Doesn't look nearly as good as the OG.
