Where is Bioshock 4? And we should go back to Rapture...

Stop asking for Bioshock please. Bioshock is gone. Everything has to end sometime. We've had 3 installments and each has gone down in quality since the first.

Bioshock 2 was 7 years ago and it wasnt even that good to begin with outside of some add on DLC.

There have been reports of a new one being in development, though.

Marcel Hatam, formerly of Crytek, thinks there may already be a studio working on a new Bioshock game, though he's not certain.

To avoid any random rumours popping up (been there, done that):
I was just casually chatting with Nick in that tweet, and mentioning a hunch/ educated guess of mine based on some overheard chatter between a couple people at an industry party and some telling job listings for said company.

Entirely unrelated to Crytek, and most likely nothing at all.

Infinite was better than Bioshock, fight me.

Honestly don't think it needs another entry, why do we have to keep making games for a series til it wears out its welcome? (thats rhetorical, I know the answer is money and ego)

I know it was unrelated to Crytek. I only mentioned it to emphasize that you're not just some random guy on Twitter but an industry vet. Besides, there's nothing wrong with making an educated guess.

So what you're saying is...

Bioshock 4 100% confirmed, VR exclusive, Big Daddy to be voiced by James Earl Jones.

Sweet!!

Wasn't necessarily talking to you, just in general :) Had an episode in the past were a random tweet with some friends suddenly turned into a news story on a few smaller gaming websites.

You had me all excited until the VR-exclusive part. Also, I was somehow convinced that he died a few years back, and now I am happy that James Earl Jones is still alive, thank you!

Because Bioshock 1 + 2 were amazing and still better than most of the games releasing today? That's my opinion of course. That's why I made this thread.
Rapture is still the best videogame "place" of all time imo. You shouldn't throw it away.
There is so much more left to do/ left to see in Rapture. Why not?

Preach.

It's not like there's a new Bioshock every year or anything. Rapture is a phenomenal setting, although I wouldn't be against another game set in Columbia.

Fair enough. I wish the gaming industry wasn't so secretive. We need to go back to the FatBabies, .plan files, and BitchX era. It was so badass!

I can't remember why and how, but I was just thinking about how cool it was when all the big FPS developers had their .plan files in the mid/ late nineties a few days ago. Those were the days!

Mr Tibbs pls

Are you the Google+ Sucks! guy on YouTube? Just asking.

I found that very upsetting. I'm Mr. Tibbs with the same avatar on Youtube and Steam.

It was pretty cool. They were so open with people leaving studios, cancelling projects, delays, and cocky start-ups creating the next-best-thing.

The shooting really put me off BS3, it was really poor and made me give up on the game.

So i do like the atmosphere and story telling, i cannot stand the gunplay, I'm hoping they go down the RE7 route with minimal gunplay.

The ham-handed infinite/alternate/skewing timelines make all future plots these games could have a total mess. If it had the writing and characters of Fringe to anchor the nonsense maybe they could pull it off but they can barely write even a compelling protagonist, much less multiple characters.

I mean, there's no Bioshock 3

Infinite isn't specifically a 3
it's infinite
we gotta get bioshock 3 before we can get a four

Not happening, irrational is gone, Ken Levine is not with 2K anymore. I love Bioshock so much , it is on my top 3 best games of all time. And yes, infinite is awesome as well

As others have pointed out Prey is probably the closest to a Bioshock sequel we'll get in the near future.
Also even in the case of a proper Bioshock sequel I'd not like Rapture to come back, I think each game should have its own unique setting.

Ken Levine had no influence on Bioshock 2. It was made by 2KMarin. And it was amazing. As much as I love Ken Levine for making Bioshock 1 and creating this series....he went nuts and destroyed everything by making Bioshock Infinite and it's DLC.
But he also ignored the lore of Bioshock 2 so there's hope. But if 2KMarin doesn't exist anymore or if most of the original developers left the studio....that would be a nightmare.

BTW: Don't get me wrong. I love Bioshock Infinite...but the connection to Bioshock 1 was terrible. When I'm playing Bioshock 1+2 I don't even think about Infinite and it's DLC. I just pretend it doesn't exist.

It's coming undoubtedly. But no, we should not go back to Rapture. Let's have a repeat where the "B team" makes a better version of Ken Levine's game, only this time in Columbia.

Bioshock: The Lost Colony.

Turns out the lost colony of Roanoke went missing because a disaster caused everyone to leave and resettle.. on R'lyeh!

They built New Roanoke amongst the cyclopean piles, and have a weird society built around pilgrim values and Eldritch magic they mistakenly attribute to God that developed in Parallel to ours as R'lyeh sunk beneath the waves.

Eventually, a sub screw off the Atlantic stumbles across a re-risen R'lyeh and your struggle begins.

Book it.

The only thing I'd accept, personally, is a reimagining of the first. Sequels/prequels to the original story never really sat well with me. If you give the right studio a chance to do their own take on Rapture, I'd be very interested.

This is probably the approach they're taking - ala Prey, Tomb Raider, DOOM, etc.

Didn't 2k metion years ago that new bioshock was in the works?

I think that was the plan for Marin? Does 2k Marin still exist? It's never been officially shut down but I think they just made Hanger 13 out of it.

In some universes it doesnt exist in others it does. In some universes Booker never goes back to Rapture. In some universes Booker never exists. Crazy BS Infinite meta lol

In some universe Irrational Games still exist and is working on Bioshock 3 set in Rapture.

I could live with that. Only problem is...I'm not living in this universe.

It was always weird how underutilized Colombia was, yet would there be a point making a game set there?

After all, Colombia never existed.

I want more Bioshock myself, but it would have to be a new setting. On top of that, I doubt the ability of anyone that is not Ken Levine to actually have that same impact of message as the original. 2 was a good game but I didn't get that same feeling, Infinite gave me that feeling but that was probably a projection of my own hype vs. tge reality of Infinite being a half-baked mish mash of concepts that were never fully explored.

My ideal would honestly be to get a total remake of Infinite- sticking to that American Exceptionalism theme that we saw early on, a proper Bioshock Infinite would be my dream game but that's never happening.

All what Rapture need to tell is done, doing more would be stretching the gum.
I'm not sure Rapture has much more of a story to tell. Didn't we get enough Rapture content?
Oh, totally. Same goes for New York, London, Tokyo and Paris content, their stories have also been told already. Honestly, it might be time to retire the concept of cities in general. Haven't we seen enough buildings already?

i don't think 2K marin is around anymore. one of the first things that came up when Irrational shuttered, if i recall correctly

Bioshock is a fairly prominent "brand" so i don't think it'll be left alone for long. and Infinite showed you can basically do anything with it in terms of setting or whatever (sort of like Far Cry) so i expect the new game to come around sooner rather than later. one of those situations where it could be pretty good or total shit depending on who gets their hands on it
