Roboute Guilliman finally completed. Took quicker then usual and longer then it should. Lots of learning in the end on this one. Thanks, GW, for this awesome model!

Thanks, folks! I actually see that I forgot to paint the broken leg (I think it is a leg) behind Guilliman. Also still have to finish painting the last torch too, but I got so excited for being almost 100% done I had to enjoy it. I guess "you don't get to go home unless you finish the job" then. *heads back to the painting desk*

But what to paint next.... hmmm.

Is there any modern/near-future scifi armored vehicle skirmish-scale (ie not many units per side) wargame that is somewhat detail oriented that is reasonably popular (low bar: not as niche as BattleTech, lol)?

Just interested in rules and game design.

EDIT How annoying. I remember seeing a game that might be matching what i'm looking for but i can't recall its name.

I never played it but maybe Infinity? That has on-foot soldier guys but it also has tanks and mechs and motorcycles and stuff.

Definitely skirmish and "reasonably popular".

Noticed that game actually.
Seems to have a bit too much focus on infantry though i've yet to check the rules.

I was really thinking something that has tanks (or equivalent) as the primary focus and combatant. In a sense, Flames of War fits my criteria except for the setting.
Modern/scifi setting because radar and other electronic sensors and missiles and attach helicopters change ground war from what it was during WWII. Perhaps not fundamentally (it is still one-hit-one-kill) but they add a layer WWII doesn't have.

Team Yankee takes on a 15mm scale what if like modern combat setting, uses the Flames of War ruleset.

Dropzone Commander is mostly vehicle sci combat game that has some popularity and some neat ideas. Dropzone tries to make for more mobile and dynamic battles

I know people play it locally, but I haven't watched any games.

I think I'm going to need glasses. Tried painting eyes and some decal touch-up and I had a very hard time focusing lol.

I think i'll take a look at the FoW and Team Yankee rules or videos of the games or something like that.

As for Dropzone Commander, it ended up being the game i remembered other than the name. Also to be researched more properly.

Thanks.

My Walking Dead: All Out War board is getting somewhere finally.

I'm starting to paint a lot of the scatter elements (traffic cones, trash bags, streetlights etc) at the moment, then I can move onto the building.

Got another small board to build, then a mammoth 3ft x 3ft one which I want to keep quite general so I can move it around a lot.

Anybody else here got experience with building mats like this? I'm a proper beginner so would love some tips.

Lot of TTCombat terrain there! I'm using the same stuff, plus that walking dead terrain set, but for Batman Miniature Game.

can't beat the price of TTCombat really!
I keep wanting to get the really good stuff, but the price is ridiculous. With a bit of love, I think this stuff will be more than good enough for me!

Be great to see your stuff too

Starting on the bases for SWA. I've flipped the bases, used some diamond plate plasticard, used 2.54cm punch, and glued the first 5. Took about 2 minutes total. Flipped bases is something I have been playing with for ages now and I've decided to do it. Feels good man.

Work smarter not harder!

The last one is somebody else's Multiverse terrain. I like some of their stuff but it's expensive. I still ordered tiles from them yesterday though.

I GOT MAGNUS THE RED IN MAIL AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH

SHOULD I PRIMER HIM WHITE OR BLACK I ODN'T KNOW

AAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH HE'S SO FREAKING HUUUUGE

I would be using a white undercoating if I were painting him. He would need to be a bright, standout model in an already bright and garish army.

I think that's precisely what this might be. Instead of putting all the special rules in the main rulebook you tailor them to the army codices and upgrade those instead. I think it's a good approach.

Stop overhauling the rules every couple years and I will be back to the game. Stick to a ruleset with slight updates here and there and I would be happy.

That's the likely scenario. Expect an affordable paperback 'rulebook' updated annually like AoS's "General's Handbook". I think we'll see the end of major revisions in favour of community-feedback curated evolution.

That's what they seem to hint at with the FAQ they posted. And if the rules are being released for free online.... good sign. A living rulebook is for the best, keep any major changes to individual codex

Mhmhm sounds good.

Ive been working on my.rubric marines and whilst its still taking me a bit to get in the swing of painting, Im liking the look Im going for so far.

Damn Android, you've got a whole Kill Team and I've only got three quarters of a single marine finished. Wish I had your hustle.

Haha, right?

My scouts are glued in sections and will hopefully be completed and primed tonight. Still a long way to go! I have been doing some kit bashing so hopefully it all comes together to make my Blood Angel scouts stand out a little from the crowd. However, I'm assembling parts here and there and you never know how it will look until all the parts come together. To be completely honest, I'm a little nervous!

After this, I think the orcs will go much faster. After painting Zombicide for so long, I was taking single molded figures for granted. These scouts have an unusual amount of flashing to clean off and the parts could be designed to fit a bit better. I'm making it work, but there is a lot of work in order to get just a single model ready for painting.

Android, your team looks great! I would be proud to shoot each one of them filthy orcs in the face from across the table :)

I feel I still don't get how to thin my paint

How much paint should I use? How much water? Should I do it in a palette dip, and not flat palette?

The way I learned was to get a sprue, or use the underside of a base or two. Prime it & then see how thin I can get the paint before it doesn't stick anymore. You don't want it so thin that it starts to pool up in crevices etc, but that shouldn't hugely be a problem unless you're overloading your brush anyway.

See how Duncan does it on Warhammer TV. Generally I do two parts paint to one part water. But it depends on what I'm painting at the time and what the colour is like - after a while you start to learn which colours need the most thinning down. It's practice and time really!

War Peaceman

You're a big guy.
There is no simple answer on how much to thin paint. As a general rule, go a tad thinner than you think. It is much better to go thinner than the opposite. You can always add another thin layer, but a thick, clumpy layer requires stripping to properly repair.

Hey guys,

Anyone ever played the fantasy wargame "Armies of Arcana"? It's an awesome tabletop fantasy game and a great way to use your Warhammer armies.

I was one of the writers for the 5th edition re-write of the original from Thane Morgan.

Consistency of milk is good as others have pointed out.

I remember that I was using some type of paint thinning solution from Vallejo that really helped rather than just water. It's been several years since I painted my minis so I'm really out of practice.

I wish I could find white primer for non heavy use :(

Anyways, Skeleton Horde finally arrives!

They're smaller than what I expected. Guess I now know why they call them miniatures.

A good colour for Primer is actually brown primer. You can find it in most hardware stores. It is great as you can make detailed bone by just brushing light bone / while on top of it and then it is also a great base for bronze, rusty metal, wood, etc.

Man, how do you people decide which set up to go with when a runner has so many variations for a unit? Can't decide if I should go for armored Mr. Skeleton or naked.

I go for maximum variety. Never the same pose twice in one unit if I can help it.

If I can help it I plan on having two with swords slamming their shields next to the horn blower because it looks hilarious in my head. Shame we can't have them switch their weapon hands.

I got a question, I got that citadel technical paint called 'Ard Coat that makes the paints under it all glossy and shiny like glass. So do I thin it down with water like a normal paint or can I just use it straight out of the pot?
