I've never played this, but always been curious, though I think I'd prefer to buy a used copy for my SegaCD because I can't imagine it has much value outside the novelty of it being one of the early FMV games and seeing it in the way it had to be packaged (compression, etc.) back then.

There are some good FMV games - Gabriel Knight 2 remains one of my favorite games to this day, and may honestly be the pinnacle of the genre - but this doesn't really seem to have many redeeming qualities in either storytelling or production.

DOS/Windows/Mac FMV games were a step above SegaCD,mixing also point and click adventure elements.

Ripper and Black Dahlia especially.
I liked Bad Mojo back then.A rather simpler game that mixed photorealistic images, CGI, real actors and animals.

Neat. I rented this one back in the day but never got anywhere. The marvel of seeing real people was pretty cool at the time.

Road Avenger was my favorite FMV title though. I dug it so much that I recorded it on VHS to watch again.

Wasn't this supposed to be shit?

It was shit back then but had the novelty of being you playing along with FMV graphics to camp hijinx and some titillation

It is still shit now but it has the novelty of nostalgia and MAJORLY aged camp hijinx and titillation.

I can see fairly decent sales consisting of people seeing it on the digital stores late at night and saying 'LOL Jesus this game haha so bad, must buy it for old times sake'

It's funny because it was aged the day it came out. They filmed the game in 1987, but sat on the footage until 1992. And let me tell you, even in 1992, the late 80s felt like a thousand years ago in terms of style. It was an instant joke on arrival.

Looks like Night Trap is making a comeback, to PS4 and Xbox One (PC version hinted at)!

"Night Trap tells the story of five teenage girls spending the weekend at the Martin home. As a member of the Special Control Attack Team, your job is to monitor the home and protect the girls using an intricate system of cameras and traps as it is being invaded by vampires."

Yes but back in the day we all masturbated to the pictures of this in gaming magazines and the thought that somewhere in the game you would see one of the girls naked.

That provides a strong sense of nostalgia.

Ha ha fair enough, Good old wank bank

Edit...

Looking for a review and found this

Crazy. Never in a million years would I thought I'd see this re-released.

Not sure how much I actually want it though TBH, but what the heck. I enjoy the genre so the more the merrier.

I mean, Dragon's Lair has been rereleased on everything and that's a horrible game too, so why not? It's for educational purposes, if nothing else.

Considering I was born a little after this released it wasn't really part of my memory I feel like I should have this for historical reasons or something, but it looks so bad. But I think FMV games are really cool. Hmm.

As I was thinking recently, it's high time Dana Plato made her glorious comeback!

Uh..Don't think she'll be appearing in anything outside of this game again.

I don't know who'll actually buy this.

But I downloaded the mp3 as soon as I could. It's on my phone now and will join my random shuffle as a wildcard.

What a weird release. It's like putting Troll 2 on blu-ray. However, unlike with terrible old movies, the gamer scene has less reverence for average to below average old games.

I would be surprised if this did not turn out to be a financial calamity.

I'm surprised at the number of people saying this will sell well. I remember playing the original when it came out. It's awful. If I remember correctly, you can just write down the times where the intruders go to a specific camera location and trigger the trap. That's it.

Watching a video on Youtube and yep, that's it.

We have already had bioshock and Skyrim remasters, so as far as I'm concerned things are looking up. Hopefully modern gamers can adapt to the deeper gameplay here.

So what's the appeal of this game?

Is it actually that violent and or sexy?

Because apparently it plays like shit.

If you consider a pretty tame 90's Puritan scare scapegoat violent and sexy, sure. Nostalgia and the preservation of an important game that provided a catalyst for the current ESRB system are the main reasons for this.

People love cheesy b-movies, there's an audience for this.
There's a cult following for Troll 2, I would love to own it on Blu-ray. It's awful but that doesn't mean that it can't be entertaining.
The Room is another example of a movie that's terrible but it's adored for it's awfulness.

Interesting comparison, but worlds apart. Bioshock and Skyrim were both good games when they were released. And that was not that long ago.

Night Trap was a poor game back when it was released. It does not have a cult following. Who is this aimed at? Aging stoners who remember this game being more fun than it really was?

Just give it time. She's been out of the game for some time, but I'm sure she can get back into it after this game blows up again!

I guess zombies are pretty on trend right now.

Wonder if we'll get the media hysteria like with the original release.
I feel like no US media nor politicians have really cared about going after games in a long time. I can't think of anything even remotely big post Hot Coffee besides a little kick up behind the "sex" in Mass Effect. This certainly wouldn't cause anything.

I wonder how hard it will be to buy this game physically??
I bet the last cover which is yet to be revealed (original Sega CD cover) will be the top seller then regular Sega CD blue Box and finally 32x cover for slim pickings...

Am going for the original cover..
