Yes. There has been a very clear message from the organization recently (Burrows and Hansen for Dahlen and Goldobin) and this is just a continuation of that. It's all about developing young players rather than trying to make the playoffs. The main tension now is just avoiding the trap the Oilers fell into where they pinned all their hopes on some 1st overall picks fresh out of junior without much veteran presence. Can't bottom out the team completely, so it'd be good if the Sedins have a few more serviceable years left.
Things still get muddy when Linden and Benning try to defend their messaging from previous seasons, but hey.... progress.
i'm sure the NHL are real optimistic about Quebec City when they see Red Hot Chili Pepper cancel their show because those idiots didn't buy enough tickets, and now The Weeknd will probably do the same for the same reason

Heh I thought Quebec City would just be even more European than say Montreal. Never had the stereotype in my head that it was a conservative getaway. But then for the province of Quebec my only frame of reference is a few Montreal visits. Funny enough I remember buying Stadium Arcadium in Montreal when that record came out.
People in QC not buying tickets to a RHCP concert shows me that they have good taste.

RHCP has some good songs but I cant listen to a lot of it.
Sublime is trash though. The fact that there are "tribute" bands for them is some of the dumbest shit Ive ever seen.

I think my dislike for both bands stems from them being overplayed around me by my family at a time in my life where I didn't want to listen to the same music as my family.
I remember my older brother sitting on the porch with his friends getting drunk and blasting Sublime and RHCP as a kid and I was really annoyed by the whole situation so I disliked the music as well.

I'll go further. The Uplift Mofo Party Plan is their best material pre BSSM and it will forever be a tragedy that Hillel's guitar style didn't get to continue. On flip side we got all that John Frusciante goodness so there was something good that happened afterwards. Even John's stuff after he went off the deep end is super cool. Your Pussy's Glued To a Building On Fire is a great song with great guitar in the outro. I wish he would do more guitar stuff, but I respect him as an artist doing whatever he wants (better than doing something "for the fans". No. The artist should always always always do their art for themselves first and foremost. If the fans don't care, so what. But when the artist is just forcing it then it comes off even worse). I'm With You, yeah it's pretty bad. Some good tunes. The Getaway is horrendous. I thought the band was feeling themselves out after John left again. But I'm With You is like god damn metal compared to The Getaway. The production is all wrong. Even when they rock out the mixing makes them sound sanitized and lifeless. Listen to the outro for Coffee Shop. OK. Now listen to something like the outro for Goodbye Angels. What is going on with the drums? They have zero power to them and I know that Chad is a absolute monster and loud as fuck. The producer made a fricken pop album mix for a rock record. What? The whole album makes I'm With You look good in retrospect. I mean there are bits and pieces that I enjoy of The Getaway. Like Encore as a whole I think is solid for the verses and I dig the guitar there. The latest debut singles have been terrible though. Raindance Maggie made me want to cry for all the wrong reasons and luckily wasn't representative of I'm With You. There is nothing from The Getaway that is good all the way through and they straight up killed the drums. The bass and drums are bitchin on I'm With You at least. Why am I wasting all my time writing about post Frusciante Chili's?
I like Sublime. It's the obnoxious culture around the band that's annoying. Oddly probably the only band where the singers death isn't the claim to fame for the casual listener. The pot obsession somehow overshadows that which can't be said for any other rocker who OD'd. I can easily understand not liking them though (I feel my connection would be stronger if I understood poor southern cali life. Alas we never made it close to getting there). Even then I don't understand how anyone could complain about the entire guitar part for Santaria. It's incredible and I'd love to be able to play it.

One thing I do respect about the Chilis is their ability to improvise and also change up songs. In the timestamp the original song is simply an interlude whereas this live version goes all out crazy. Just a cool change.
