Rumor: Nintendo to keep making video games, Switch will get titles that help it sell

MH has never initially been announced at E3. Though that would make an interesting turn of events possibly leading to a simultaneous worldwide release for forthcoming titles.

Besides the big staple franchises like Pokemon, Smash Bros etc... I wonder if they are trying to make a kind of out of left field hit the way Brain Age or Wii Fit was too.

Yes they've said they have a variety of new IP in development with some that are like Wii Fit and Brain Age in that they may be unexpected.

It's always a bad idea to hype up a Nintendo E3 presentation.

But too late for me.

That 2015 E3 was just atrocious, still suffering from PTSD. I skipped class to watch the annoucement of Federation Force and amiibo Festival. :S

Every single presentation by Nintendo, starting with the Switch reveal - and even before that -, left me seriously underhyped. Every actualy product they released was immensely enjoyable.

I'm fine with them being bad at product reveals / announcements - underhype me all you want, as long as you keep delivering products of your current level of quality.

You all know Bayonetta 3 is coming to Switch and people will be banned for port begging.

I had this discussion with a friend this week.

Do you think Bayonetta 3 would be published by Nintendo with the very suspicious fact that Sega ported the first game to PC out of nowhere?

For me it seemed obvious if anyone is publishing the game it'd be Sega, rereleasing the first game to build up some hype. For him not.

This is why I'm having a hard time getting excited for E3. After a bunch of mediocre titles like Federation Force, Amiibo, Festival, Tennis Open, Color Splash, Zip Lash and Star Fox Zero Nintendo has to prove to me their software won't be as disappointing as these games were.

Nintendo is now in the next fiscal year. So these comments should apply from April 1 2017 to March 31 2018.

Which makes a lot of sense. They really do need to over stuff the shelves with games. They cannot afford any huge gaps.

Mainly because there are already people who ignore things like Arms and splatoon and think Mario is the next Switch game worth buying. So they need to overfill in between July and November.

Have you thought that perhaps Arms and Splatoon just simply doesn't appeal to those people? Rather than being 'ignored'?

Just like not every PS4 or Xbox One first party game appeals to their respective owners either.

Yes, that's what title do for a system. :p

All you need to do Nintendo is announce a new Pokémon, Metroid and Monster Hunter then you have a good sum of gaf going out to buy the Switch.

I hope the rumors of a port of wii u smash aren't true and that it's a brand new one they announce out of the gate.

I truly do think they should avoid Wii U ports at all cost for several reasons. First, the systems are simply too close in power. This is not a Wii to Switch scenario where things like resolution, textures, etc. can all be noticeably boosted. Second, many Wii U games they could port over might have been fairly recent releases. This is part of the reason I'm not getting Mario Kart 8. As much as I want to play it on the go, I still play it somewhat regularly on the Wii U.

I get that not everyone who has a Switch owned a Wii U but that is what the e-shop is for. Put the damn Wii U games up on there and focus on new content for the Switch.

I think Nintendo feels that many of their first party efforts were wasted on Wii U due to the small install base. Hence I expect we'll get a Wii U Smash Deluxe, ala Mario Kart.

Better be a Metroid. Its all I really want. Sure another Zelda, but I think its too soon for that, and even if they did announce one it'll be years before we get to play it.

More JRPGs would be nice too.

Hoping for some bombshells and the start of building a library that will make Switch actually worth a purchase.

I doubt, however, that any big-budget AAA titles announced at E3 will be released in 2017. Maybe some Wii U ports for this year, which would be a good thing.

I can't imagine Sakurai working so hard on Smash 4 just to start development on Smash 5 right after.

Smash 4 is fine. Perfect fit for the MK8D treatment.

Didn't get the memo regarding the 14th Amendment
A Switch Pokémon would be all they need. Assuming there's that and of course other games in development then Nintendo will finish the year strong.

EDIT:
Pokken would also be amazing. Add a Deluxe Smash and game over.

Pokemon, Monster Hunter and Dark Souls. Bookmark this post.

Aswell as Animal Crossing, Smash Bros, Pikmin 4, Retro Studios game (hopefully Metroid or a new IP) and Next Level's game (hopefully Luigi's Mansion 3). They won't all come out this year obviously but I feel Nintendo will show a rough road map all the way to Spring 2018 at this years E3. It's one of the most important E3 showcases in the companies history.

People might sneer at your mention of Dark Souls but I think a port of one of them if not of all three will show up on Switch. I think there's going to be a lot of Japanese developed ports announced for it (probably in Nintendo Directs rather than at E3) aswell as some exclusives that will see many a meltdown.

I don't think they'll release Pokémon on the Switch until there is an install base that can snap it up. So I think late 2018/2019.

If it's just an upressed third version of Sun and Moon I would expect it to be a fairly cheap game to develop, and an incredibly easy money maker this holiday. Then a full brand new Pokemon built from the ground up for the Switch in 2018 or 2019 would sell gangbusters.

I'm skipping it as well. I didn't particularly like the WiiU version and found it pretty boring compared to older entries. Not to mention all the characters being unlocked at the start, which is one of the main reasons I play MK. And even that got repetitive and boring in the WiiU version.

The problem with Wii U ports, again, is that they aren't going to win over anyone that wasn't tempted to buy a Wii U for them when they originally came out. Sure they might sell a lot of copies but the idea is to build a library of games.

Generally people that haven't bought a Switch and are on the fence, even a year from now, are going to look at the games available. In all likelihood they probably did this with the Wii U. If they were never tempted to get a Wii U when MK 8 and Smash, etc. were in it's library, why would they suddenly be tempted now? Sure some of them will go for it for the portability, but it would be much wiser for Nintendo to put those games out not as major releases but either as releases in typically quiet months for gaming or on the E-Shop.

They need to focus on capturing the audience that never bothered to buy a Wii U. Now that doesn't mean making a bunch of Gears of War clones or violent shooters, but games like Metroid, F-Zero, hell even getting developers to revive franchises from the N64 (a non crappy Turok, Wave Race, 1080 Snowboarding, Rogue Squadron, NFL Blitz, Mario Golf, Pilot Wings) could work wonders to expand Nintendo's audience to those who have been out of their loop for a while.

Just like not every PS4 or Xbox One first party game appeals to their respective owners either.

This specifically speaking to how Nintendo is addressing those games. To Nintendo those are the next big games. People may or may not care for them, which is fine, it also means those types of people will ignore them. This has absolutely nothing to do with peoples tastes, who fucking cares what someone else likes, go like it.

What, I am, and others have said, is that Nintendo needs to fill the shelves with a variety of games because clearly relying on Arms and Splatoon to carry to the Holidays isn't working, bc, as you note, they don't have as much universal appeal as Nintendo wod hope. So the announcement that they have a lot more game to announce shouldn't come as a surprise and people should expect those games in the next 12
months or so.

Nintendo can't rely on five or six 'lottery tickets' to borrow an analogy. They need to publish as much as possible in as short as time as they can so that they maximize the 'lottery tickets' they are buying/making.

Tldr; I don't care about peoples preferences and the comment was never about that, and Nintendo has to release as much as possible even if it seems like overkill to people here, & finally Kimishima's statement shouldn't be a surprise to anyone. Expect a mix of big & small games covering a wide range and for Nintendo to fill the channel.

It seems like everyone is responding to this with sarcasm, but I think it's an important distinction that they consider that they'll unveil multiple titles they view as system sellers rather than just content a la Arms, Snipperclips, etc.
