Rez Infinite - 2 Records + 7 inch - $75

HLD - 4 Records - $75

Persona 5 Essential - 4 Records - $100

Persona 5 Deluxe - 6 Records - $175

I'm trying to do this math but I can't figure it out

How did we get to this point

iam8bit: the bag eggs of vg vinyl.

I actually like them and have a TON of their stuff, with way more on order. But even I have limits.

Are they at least going to show a tracklist to show which songs aren't in the $100 P5 soundtrack? Or if it's gonna come with a code for the digital version?

They really don't have a lot of information for something this expensive.

Edit: Apparently no tracklist until later, and no digital code. Man, that's crazy that people have to buy the $100 version basically blind, not knowing if your fave song is gonna be on it or not. I guess that version isn't limited, though, right?

I'd totally be down for this, but. couldn't they put together something before they put it up for PO? I get that they're cashing in on P5 while it's hot, but c'mon.

I never actually worked at iam8bit. People started complaining to them on Twitter about how they get really behind schedule and they said it wouldn't be a problem in 2018 anymore because they got rid of their bad employee. I'll see if I can find the tweets

edit:

Didn't they immediately delay like four albums just a few months later?

Opened up my e-mail this morning and was excited at the Persona 5 Vinyl announcement.

Clicked the link and saw the ridiculous prices. This is another one on the list of vinyls that I want really badly but will not buy due to how much iam8bit seems to price gouge.

I had purchased from them in the past, but due to their pricing and horrible communication and visibility on release dates, I haven't been able to support them. I don't really see that changing in the future if their trend continues.

*edit* The vinyl is on sale now and they aren't even showing the artwork/packaging or what songs are even on the $100 version. Why don't they just wait until the whole thing comes together before the put something like this on sale?

Man, the ONE vinyl I wanted being sold by the ONE company I actively dislike.

I must've used a Monkey Paw when making this wish.

In a nod to iam8bit and the Mario Kart Deluxe thread, the next Game Soundtrack thread needs the title "Game soundtracks on vinyl [OT2] Extreme Salt"

omg at the prices for the Persona set.

The Last of Us 4xlp box set from Mondo was only $100. And that shit was really premium, one of the nicest in terms of packaging for video game soundtracks. And Mondo tends to charge on the higher end because of the care and craft that goes into the overall package.

Everything I've ever heard about iam8bit does not make them a premium entity that should be charging these kinds of prices. Is this just because they know they can fuck over certain fan groups by charging a lot more? I mean, I know Persona fans are gonna pay, even if it was only 4xlp and came in a blank sleeve, but really. What a bunch of bs.

Ordered the six LP pack, cos I'm a fucking mug

If I had artwork, even if it were a sketch design or a mock up of what they wanted to do it would be so much easier to justify the cost.

The thing about iam8bit is sure their prices are expensive, but I wouldn't care nearly as much if they didn't feel like such quick cash grabs. They're essentially crowdfunding the release. Taking preorders to pay for the product before it's made.

I hope iam8bit doesn't get access to Nier: Automata.

10 LP TRUE FAN EDITION FOR TRUE FANS: $300

This would be better value haha

I'll wait till 2018 when it's out in the open and maybe consider the 4xLP set if it contains most the tracks I would be interested in.

The $175 set is just ridiculously priced. That's like 7 Data Discs releases!

It's a shame they seem to identify the releases they know people would be most hyped for, then bleed them of the most money possible because they know the die hard fans will probably still bite. It's like the Rez Infinite release, I think it's a pretty nice set, but man would I have preferred a $35 gatefold with none of the gimmicks.

I hope the Dark Souls trilogy by SpaceLab9 is reasonably priced, I'd be gutted if it ended up being out of my price range.

That's how I feel about everything they do. Quick cash grabs because video game fans want to buy vinyl, it's the hot thing.

The one thing I love about Mondo is how they have the records and artwork pretty much finalized, even for albums that are put up months in advance. There is none of this mystery bullshit for $100+ box sets.

Yep! Also, Mondo is NOT cheap. At best, they're price parity with other niche vinyl manufacturers. The thing is, they don't delay and they open preorders when the stuff is at their warehouse.

Yeah, Mondo is not cheap but they're known for high quality and you pay a little extra for that, artwork and all.

iam8bit just screams cheap and rushed. the price doesn't equal the reputation.

I gave in and pre-ordered the $100 "Essential" collection. If the track list sucks (like doesn't have Layer Cake), I'll cancel it.

But it makes me wonder why the supposed "unessential" songs are another $75.

Reasons why I'm generally okay with paying more for Mondo:

* The release are high quality and have great artwork.
* Mondo is a respected brand and quite high status.
* Customer service is usually great.

Basically the opposite of iam8bit.

lol

They know their customers well. I personally don't think it's worth it to gamble on something like this.

All together now:

Fuck Iam8bit.

Pretty much this. Still waiting on my HLD vinyl. Their delivery estimated are a fucking joke.

Edit: wow somehow I missed the March email regarding this. I feel like I should just cancel my order. What did everyone here do?

Cheap isn't the word I'd use. I've gotten...Let's see, Undertale, Rocket League, Journey, Uncharted 3/4, NMS from them. Might be one or two more. Aside from that one weird Undertale track (my kid never even noticed it), I've found their quality to be pretty solid. It's just the delays and their crowdfunding style.

Also, I wouldn't care about the crowdfunding that much if they were honest and upfront about it. I'm wondering if they're just getting thrown over a barrel on licensing. It's certainly possible.

$175 for Persona 5?

For 6 LPs?

Are you fucking kidding me??? I feel bad asking for $25 for selling a double LP. This is robbery.

They keep saying there will be add ons and extras in it to justify the price. I mean there's nothing there that can justify these prices but I'm curious to see what they throw in.

You're not a mug. I almost paid 100+ for an out of print Notorious BIG album. If you have the money and like the music, that's why it's made.

Edit: In this instance I bought the CD instead. I always do! 80$ is the most I've paid, for Wilco's live 4LP box- and only then for its exclusive tracks.

The prices for Persona 5 are brutal. My god. I wanted the $100.00 set, but I'm so offended by the these prices that I won't pull the trigger.

It doesn't help that I finally got a turntable, and found out that the wife and kids don't really like chiptunes/classic game music. As in, they hate it. So my collection of old game music on vinyl is not so beloved in my household.

But they like the Persona 5 soundtrack, so I was going to pick it up. Blargh.

I have zero regrets for the Rez purchase- that release is amazing looking and sounding (but not priced amazingly, of course).

Since e-mails went out for Persona I just caught that the art is a surprise reveal... in Q4 2017. Like, for fucking real? Preorder now! Hopefully you like the packaging on your nearly $200 purchase!

This one is practically indefensible, as someone who both praises and damns this company with some regularity.

I like the email subject line: "We're Doing Something a Little Different for This Release..."

No, you're actually kinda doing the same thing you've done previously: Overcharge and preorder. I guess you can say the difference is that you're giving even less details upfront and an even bigger price tag?

I wish people wouldn't preorder this, it's absolute garbage. And I wish other retailers would call out iam8bit's shitty practices too. Data Discs, ShiptoShore and Mondo have all treated me extremely well.
