Good. Directs are normally straight to the point, no bullshit. Live presentations are kinda pointless now anyway when the best person at Nintendo for doing them has passed away (RIP).

They had a perfect format with this last Direct.
I don't know if they plan on keeping that format for the Digital Event, but it should be similar to it.
It should have a larger emphasis on Switch games and bigger games. Also a bigger emphasis on third party games like Skyrim and Mario + Rabbids or other Japanese third party games.

Man, I get the appeal of directs and it works for certain companies/events, but saying this should be the standard format and all companies should eliminate conferences is pretty damn lame.
Go fly your NoFunAllowed.jpg flags on your toilets all by your lonesome
let the the hype floweth
They're presented it in a similar way as a Nintendo Direct, but Sony doing it in their own way and adapting the format to live conference. All scripted, no flubs or mistakes, no long speeches or sales talk. Just game, after game, after game, with few pauses in between. It was very un-Sony-like in comparison to all their past conferences.
No. 2015 is the outlier. Most Nintendo directs are usually pretty snappy with an introduction, trailer, talking a bit about the game, then doing a short list of trailers in succession, some dates, trailer, talking about about that game, dates, passing it on to another guy in the video, same formula, then passing it back, same formula, then end or possible final surprise. Very much the same as the recent Sony conference.
If they do gags, they're usually placed at the very beginning and the very end.
Though the new format they did awhile ago is literally a game a minute. Game, info, date, game, info, date, game, info, date, game, info, date in rapid fire succession.
They have momentum right now, they should be hyping the shit out of Switch with a live blowout conference to keep people talking and focused. Directs are fine during the rest of the year at talking to their base but E3 is all about hype and anticipation. It's about showing confidence and excitement about your platform.
Fixed :]all of that can and likely will be accomplished with their current games.

E3 is only watched by enthusiasts like us. The rest of the world will get their info from the internet and other places. A live presser means very little in the grand scheme of things. Digital event or live presser, it will be reported on a site by journalists who watched or attended E3.

By now you guys should realize all gaf really cares about is the pomp and circumstance of live conference. Want to feel like everyone is watching the same show live and awaiting that fuck up or that moment of epicness and hear people clapping and dancing

it really does feel like the game announcements are the last thing on some people's minds for E3
it's weird
Nah, it was like 3 months ago, and dude is still probably just starting to do the design document. Next year, we'll get a 20 second teaser. No More Heroes 3 being in production was revealed at the Switch event. Does anyone think a trailer might be ready by E3? I kinda hope there is one.

Not as weird as people saying Nintendo doesn't have confidence in their lineup so they aren't doing it live. Not as weird as Nintendo fans shitting on live pressers because Nintendo decided not to do them anymore.
Just because you and Nintendo don't like them now, doesn't make them irrelevant. And plenty of gamers still prefer live pressers. People pack movie theaters to watch Sony's E3 presser.

Companies can find their own ways like Sony did last year with their live presser. The structure of those live pressers have become irrelevant, hence Sony's changes last E3 which was more aimed at the people at home rather than the industry people attending.

I didn't say that. I don't care how any of the companies present, I just want announcement and release dates.
They've kinda been doing that since 2013 when they revealed the PS4. And it's not irrelevant.

good thing Nintendo's announcements will make the rounds on social media just like anything else
Unless I've had a serious lapse of memory, if Shenmue III appears at E3 this year it will only be its second, and technically only its first as an actual video game. This year we will welcome FFVIIR and Shenmue 3 back for their third E3. Remake will certainly and Shenmue will likely be back for a fourth one next year.
2015, Year of Dreams Deferred.

Having an orchestra and a real audience and Kojima strutting onto the the stage like a boss is the kind of thing that goes beyond social media and gaming websites. Why do you think Apple and Samsung have their own lavish events to introduce their next phone, when they could easily just do it with a press release?
Are you referring to the literal last Direct and not specifically E3 ones? If so, I'd say they should remove the whole headline thing they did when transitioning from one game/announcement to the next. It kind of took away that surprise factor when you could so easily catch sight of a game image/name from the headline titles. I'd much rather have that "take a look at this" build-up and THEN know what it is.
I still think the Direct concept is really good, providing of course the content is there to justify the structure and isn't just full of fluff and filler.

Although tbh, it seems you're just shitposting anyway.
I just don't see why Sony is praised for its "here's a game that hasn't even been started yet and will probably not come out until 2020 or so" (FFVII Remake, Death Stranding) conferences...the Sony shows especially are overblown theatrical spectacles that focus on titles YEARS from completion.

Like 80% of why I like this is to see people fall into sobbing messes in post form.
