What is up with the "My Sex Junk" segment on Bill Nye's new show?

For anyone who hasn't seen it:

This has to be one of the most awkward and misproduced things I have ever seen. It feels like it belongs on a conservative comedy show where they make fun of liberals. It's like a parody of liberal culture. Am I missing some context that makes this less awful?

As much as I like Rachel Bloom, yeah I thought that segment was... weird.

I mean, I get what they were going for... but it was just a bad tune.

Which was musically more sound than this atrocity

I can't *believe* these lazy developers keep making file sizes so damn large. Btw, how does technology work?
I've never understood the internet's fascination with "cringe." It's not an emotion that many videos can illicit from me easily.

That said, the OP's link was full cringe. I couldn't make it more than half way.

The whole show was a mistake in my opinion. They relied on the nostalgia of Bill Nye to get an audience and the delivered a product that was not good for anyone. I thankfully didnt get this far watching it with my 10 yr old daughter. I was hoping for an educational fun show. Instead we got a little science, a bill mahr type rount table political discussion, and mixed with a lot of live audience cringe.

I was so disappointed in this. I only saw this piece after in the cringe thread. It is so uncomfortable.

"Rachel Bloom is gonna be on the new Bill Nye show? YES! More exposure will lead people to discovering how amazing Crazy Ex-Girlfriend is!"

Something clearly went wrong in production. The stuff she does solo is a million times better than this.

Never liked Nye anyway. I get way he's going for, but something about him always rubbed me the wrong way. Don't think my 11 year old should watch this.

Eh. From what I'm seeing conservatives aren't taking it that way. Their outlets are attacking it for promoting trans acceptance. It's still a poorly produced segment overall that needed some more time in the oven.

I watched this even though I haven't hit this episode yet.

Was expecting a lot worse, but I think her Panspermia song was lamer than this.

Do people not understand it's spoofing those cringey PSA performances...?

If that's the case then they missed the mark by a country mile.

Also, it seems like a bad idea to do a parody when trying to explain this. It might give the impression that you're making fun of the subject.

Put aside the cringe... what exactly is the message? People like freaky shit? Okay...

I just watched most of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend on Netflix and now have the biggest crush on Rachel Bloom. This was not a good segment.

Haven't really watched any of Bill's new show yet but I keep hearing a lot of mixed things. I don't think this clip helps.

Honestly, it made me laugh, and i think it's intentionally bad to comedic effect

i took one look at the comments section and this is currently being used as a political wedge by alt-right deplorable types who are treating this as ultra serious business and a threat to their way of life, which immediately not only makes me like the video, but consider it a resounding success as well

What the flying fuck was this? Holy shit, this is easily the worst thing I've seen in a recent while that doesn't have Trump in it. I'm actually offended at how bad that was. I don't like using the word cringe, but really, this was just cringe to the max. I will need some time to recover from this...

Everything about it is bad. The general message probably started off as a good idea, I think, but it's poorly conveyed, the production is bad, and the song itself just isn't good. It almost feels like somebody didn't show up and they yanked Bloom in off the street and gave her five minutes to write the song and come up with choreography.

Which is too bad, because she's fantastic on Crazy Ex and generally pretty solid outside of it. That Funny or Die music video thing she did before the election was a pretty solid combination of message + funny, so I totally don't get what happened here.
