Would the technology even exist for a generational leap in a console for 2018?

Surely even if they did this, which they won't, it would just a a Scorpio Pro.

That's way too soon, people would be pissed off.

Unless maybe it is fully backwards compatible and games for it would work on the PS4/PS4pro... and releases christmas 2018.

PS4 PRO +

Lol. Imagine.

MS: We welcome you to Xbox Scorpio! The most powerful console on the market.
Sony: Introducing the PlayStation 5! The most powerful console on the market.

This won't happen

Things:

-Prediction is from past July
-Takashi Mochizuki from WSJ talked about Damian Thong prediction last year,
-Takashi Mochizuki from WSJ talks again about SAME prediction this year in a new article about Sony fiscal year.
-Takashi Mochizuki from WSJ gives him credit because he "predicted" PS4 Neo and PS4 Slim last July.

And the funny thing is when he talked about PS4 Neo... the rumor was everywhere for months...

I can see it getting announced in 2018, but I think 2019 is the earliest it'll release. Rushing it out seems kinda silly, especially as the PS4 is still killing it, and I don't think the Switch or Scorpio will change that either.

I would be livid if they did. I don't think they will tho. I wouldn't be the only one mad they just bought a pro and ps5 comes 2 years later. Unless they have an amazing trade in program for it, which I don't see that happening either. Lol

Anyone can make a couple right guesses. That doesn't mean they'll always be correct.

Unless this person has actual reliable insider information, their word is only speculation that's hardly better than any random GAFfer's.

That's what I thought.

People were talking about it since March of last year and this guy gets credit for mentioning it in July lol

I think if Sony can launch the PS5 in 2019 they will. I bet they already have a decent idea where they are going. Cerny hammered home they still think generations are a thing so I dont really expect a PS4 Pro Pro.

In 2018 I think they do price drops and slimmer revisions across the board.

That would be a real slap in the face for pro owners. Not even a year old.
I think they're going to be real upset when they find out the pro is not forward compatible with PS5.

2018 sounds about right for a PS5. I just hope they make it back compatible with PS4.

PS5 announced. Less powerful that Scorpio. Sky falls.

No way in hell the PS5 hits before 2020.

They are not going to release PS5 in 2018 lol.

They are not even going to announce it in 2018.

God of War, Spiderman, Days Gone, The Last of Us 2, Sucker Punch new IP, etc are all coming out 2018 (TLOU2 could be 2019 though). They are not going to announce or release any new console in the same year of all these big software releases, come on.

grain of salt and all but i could see this... seems like MS/Sony want to tier consoles as much as possible so it'd makes sense to have something putting Pro at mid range (i mean after all it's not particularly a behemoth piece of hardware). though how that plays into "ps5" and forward, backwards compatability, a question mark

/armchair speculation
