I finally caught up all the way, by the way. I really love the way they've handled 17's character. He's a complete badass now with his cool and collected attitude. You can tell how much he's grown from his delinquent punk days. He's polite and soft spoken, and doesn't let things get to him, but still has a bit of a cold edge to him. I always liked him in the Android arc and History of Trunks, but he exceeded any expectations I had of him here. I pretty much expected Goku to go fight him, recruit him, and leave. Instead we got real character development, and the writers managed to tease Uub and spend a fair amount of time on how 17's family and job has affected his life. Good job, DB Super. This arc is shaping up to be my favorite yet.

18 has also had a good amount of development throughout Super. I love watching her interacting with Krillin and their daughter.

I like how 17 doesn't really care about his family dying as long as they go together, (though its weird he wants the Super Dragon Balls for a boat) nice contrast to the recent 'i fight for my baby' thing everybody is going on.

Just that last episode was boring. Cant wait to see more new characters :D

My thoughts;
Honestly, I was a bit disappointed. For the most part story was pretty good, but the visuals left a lot to be desired, the action was pretty weak compared to a lot of the stuff we've gotten this arc. I'm also not a fan of how Gohan just got his Ultimate form back by powering up after getting a lecture from Piccolo. I would have much rather had Gohan have to center himself spiritually or something to get it back.
The episode was almost entirely outsourced, so that explains why it wasn't the best visually.

I was disappointed with the visuals as well. The art was decent but animation left a lot to be desired. When piccolo used kage bunshin that whole scene was very stiff and pretty flat

I approve of this Yamcha mini story.
Glad it wasn't just a one off joke and they're actually doing something funny with it. Hopefully they don't overdo it.

Clearly they're setting up Time Breaker Yamcha. Something XV2 didn't even want to do.

Gonna need the Dragon Balls to wish back Yamcha's hopes and dreams.

Dude's making sure that this is the L to end all others.

Who's gonna update the Yamcha post?

Yeah I feel your disappointment.

It was a good episode but it wasn't what they advertised it to be.

Also the 17 episode completely spoiled me in terms of eye candy with the color works and story board. It probably ruined all the episodes to come for me lmao.

Im sure we will get some sick episodes in the actual tournament

I wasn't expecting anything good from this episode.

But then we got Cabba and Piccolo beating Gohan twice so that was ok. Sucks that Piccolo had to share his episode with Gohan.

Gohan is still terrible

Well to be fair this episode's shortcomings explains why we are getting another Gohan episode (ep 90). Makes sense now.

Goku was bare chested for a scene last arc, we also saw half of Vegeta's chest and a shirtless Trunks (though he had some bandages covering parts of him).

Was he ? Didn't Goku have bandages too ?

Anyway bare chests are rare in DB Super for whatever reason, so I'm hoping we'll get some.

I know how that sounds.

The Ultimate Gohan in my theory is/would be a rare and unique transformation thanks to things like DNA combination and the two enhancements that Gohan has received

Top episode for me, I got what I came for. There could have been more Gohan, but a lot is going on in this arc and they have to weave that in; spending time time on the rest of the cast rather than make it Piccolo/Gohan exclusive is fine in my book. 17 had been missing since the 90s so he deserved that treatment.

It's not because the elder kai knew exactly what he was gonna get and how to activate it.

Also it didn't make a lot of sense how he got it back but I don't really care since he should have never lost it in the first place :p .

Pacing could have been placed better. Cut out the Capsule Corp. scene entirely, keep the 18/Krillin one and put the Cabba stuff at the end and it would have been better. I enjoyed the episode over all though because Gohan got some long-needed character development addressing his biggest weakness from Z. Plus that scene where he unlocks Ultimate again was super great. Better than Blue tbh.

I only hope they start drawing Gohan better, because holy fuck the only time he did look awesome in this episode was when he went SS2, they're having problems making him look cool with the bang, it's either too big or too weird, I mean, it's great to have the bang back, but for some reason they can't seem to draw it right.

With those complaints aside, HOLY FUCK THE BANG IS BACK!

Caulifla is the name of that Female Broly, I wonder what she's up to. From the initial arc trailer it seemed like she was a shy girl hiding immense power, but today's episode made her look like she's some kind of bandit, not shy at all.
Poor dragon, they keep eating its tail lol, that was a nice callback.

He looked fine in close-up scenes.

At this point, I'm starting to think she originally wasn't a Toriyama design, but then he overthrew it and we got Caulifla, like what happened to the original Beerus.

While I am sad that the episode was not fully centered on Piccolo x Gohan, it was overall good.
I didn't like the art very much, but it's Gohan!

Also:
I really disliked him going SSJ2 transforming into ultimate (aka black again)
It didn't felt good, cause technically Ultimate was never above SSJ2 (above being SSJ3), it was like an alternate transformation (or so I though) so it was kinda lame going yellow to black hair while he was screaming lol.

but <3 gohan forever. now to ep 90.

Ultimate was originally reached by Gohan by trying to go SSJ after getting the boost from Old Kai. Best I can think now is that he did in fact lose his ability to do so in BoG/RoF and has to try harder to do so even after all the updated training. I suspect the transformation will go back to being easier now, especially if there's another powerup coming soon.

Ah yeah, that one looked good too, but I do hope he looks fine in all scenes with the bang. BTW did he not have it at the end of the episode when he was at the bonfire with Piccolo? I thought he'd keep it at all times :(

He did have it. Look again.

Thanos acquires the fully powered Infinity Gauntlet in The Avengers: Infinity War, but loses when all the superheroes team up together to stop him.
Caulifla will be the breakout star of this arc. I fully expect her to destroy someone after their moment of glory and cause a legitimately threatening fighter to job.

I don't understand what Piccolo was doing by using multiform against Ultimate Gohan, lol. Unless it was a ploy by Piccolo to hide how much power he's put on over the years. We at least know he's as strong as Super Saiyan 2. However, I assume Piccolo is going to go toe to toe with Gohan in the remaining hours, so he's surpassed Super Saiyan 3? Interesting. =o

My guess is that because Gohan was trying to protect his family, he wasn't tapping into his mystic power, but his saiyan blood, meaning he went SSJ.

It kind of makes sense since elder kai said to try going SSJ to unlock mystic, so those 2 things can theoretically be interchangeable if he's not tapping into the power right.

He's training him to fight in a battle royale also, so i figured fighting foes in numbers is part of that, hence multiform.

This is the exact look they should keep when doing the higher budget episodes.

Anyways, while I'm glad Gohan's power was clarified and his sporadic cockiness during battle confronted I'm not a fan of how submissive Gohan is coming across in literally every episode of Super. Maybe I'm wrong but I'd hope he'd be his own man and not be so reactive to every other character's authority, even people like Krillin. The voice actress/soft tone isn't helping matters.

I was half expecting Piccolo to take Gohan to the Hyperbolic Chamber (Is this what you guys usually call it in English? In the Latam dub it was simply The Room of Time) so that they could train for the few hours they still have left.

This episode generally looked fine. Not amazing, but alright. I know some people differ on how they want Gohan drawn, but I was fine with this episode. Honestly if there was one area where the art struggled, I thought it was with Piccolo.

Are they supposed to be up that high?

Still a fun episode. Any episode where Piccolo uses his stretchy arms is fun in my book.

Ahem it's the Hyperbolic Time Chamber. And yes it's a stupid name

Is Piccolo being able to control a cut off limb new?
Piccolo channeling his inner Buu.

Watch as the combination between Gohan and Piccolo involves the former severing the latter's arm and using it as some kind of decoy.

Heh, forgot the Time between those two words :p Had a couple of beers while watching the episode. Yeah, it's a weird name for sure.

I hope that means Gohan will have a new form for the tournament. God Ultimate or something.

My hunch is that we'll see Ultimate with that lightning effect like in the opening and that one card art. Not sure if it will involve God Ki, though it would be amazing if it did. Ultimate with God ki should theoretically be stronger and easier to use than Blue(less body strain).

Well, yeah but the training was to get Gohan back up to snuff. multiform would be pointless for that because he's dividing his strength. Though, I guess he probably let his arm got blocked off so he could shoot Gohan in the back, lol.

It's always a bit jarring when they cut to flashbacks of Z, especially a well animated one like today's flashback, since the Z is better looking on average than Super.

Piccolo needs to at least get to Android 17 level and then I'll forgive all the stupid power scaling stuff.

I was telling dudes that Piccolo got much stronger when this arc was announced and yet some disagreed. Yall know how this DB stuff works. Somehow, everyone will be much stronger.

It'd be great if Gohan's Mystic form was heightened by god ki, with him being able to control that ki while retaining the Mystic look and not necessarily going SSB. I'd fucking love that.

It was a fierce battle that span over 3 days to settle for this.

The joke only works if Yamcha remains relevant, and Yamcha could have easily been ignored for the rest of the arc, and I think that takes away some of the fun of the title.

That was my main concern against it.

Ostensibly yes, but part of that was making sure Gohan knew not to let his guard down(according to the subs). So if you're training a battle royale and not to let your guard down...

Also, we don't know if this multiform technique works the same way as what we've known before. Piccolo vs Frost had him charging up a special beam cannon in multiform, which really makes no sense if his current version of multiform functions in the same way. It looked a bit different this episode when the clones were popped(they seemed made of a white flame-like energy as opposed to being organic like in the saiyan saga against Nappa when the clones had purple blood and could organically re-merge). We've also seen new techniques from Piccolo(the green beam, controlling a severed limb), none of which were named, so we may get this elaborated on later.
