Sony's actual quietness

Also, Sony is operating differently from the rest of the market in that they don't have much in the way of service games, so they don't have much to talk about frequently in between releases. If you look at Activision Blizzard, most of their talking is about the constant updates to their hugely successful service games.

This is probably for the best really. The vast majority of these GaaS titles heavily involve multiplayer of some sort (co-op and/or competitive), which Sony has sort of struggled with. They had a ton of multiplayer games last gen, and while some of them had moderate popularity, none of them really took off.

Plus Sony putting more focus on SP games (or rather letting their studios choose to make them) I think puts them in a nice position to fill a sort of niche. Obviously SP games are still big, but with fewer being made, Sony can take advantage (because of their large repertoire of studios) can say "hey look at all these games we got! Don't like multiplayer/GaaS? We have plenty of SP games!"

And of course there are plenty of 3rd party games to take care of multiplayer/GaaS. Why compete with them when consumers don't care if the games are 1st/3rd party? Better to get the marketing deals for them and push the PS4 as the best place to play all kinds of games no matter what your taste is.

And really, despite Microsoft has bigger multiplayer franchises, even they've been struggling to attract consumers with their GaaS offers. Both Halo and Gears have underperformed. Forza has been doing great, but racing games aren't really huge these days, so its appeal is limited. They do have Sea of Thieves and State of Decay coming, so we'll see how those turn out.

I just bought a ps4 and loving all the games especially the exclusives. Sony don't need to talk to get customersome because they're killing it with their games and hardware

That would be really hard to do. How do you top that live orchestra?

Live action skits on stage, acting out all game trailers.

No CG whatsoever.

Having an orchestra again wouldn't hurt either, lol

Dammit, came to say a live TLOU2 MoCap session with a reading on stage, or some kind of mixed-reality theatre is a scene.

A new classic gif is born.

OT - OP needs to ask the question 'Why do they need to wheel out Layden, House or Shu?'

Herman & the GG team were front of mind for nearly two months in the run up to & post HZD's release.

Sony have just delivered a quite frankly ridiculous first quarter of games, had a record Q1 (or Q4, depending on CY or FY) in hardware sales globally, and have reached 60m sold-in as announced at their results call.

With E3 just over a month away they don't need to send execs out to chew the fat with journos.

I feel like that gif goes nice with the topic of the thread and could use some captions, like April, May with him being silent then when he starts dancing could be the day of the conference or just say E3 or something

Given the sheer amount of press PlayStation games have been getting -- from Gravity Rush 2 through to Persona 5 and everything in between -- I'm not sure how you can say they've been quiet. Horizon: Zero Dawn was honestly one of the noisiest new first-party IP launches I've witnessed in a while.

I assume OP is referring to the lack of interviews involving Andrew House, Shuhei Yoshida, et al. They're never done many interviews really, you'll definitely get a big round of them at E3, but I wouldn't expect any until then.

Phil Spencer is extremely talkative in the Microsoft camp, but I feel like that's almost forced upon them; let's be honest here, if it wasn't for the constant barrage of Scorpio teasing or Spencer's Twitter account, Xbox would have been drowned out of the news cycle almost entirely for the first five months of this year.

Nintendo's obviously being quite vocal because it's just launched a new system. I don't really think Sony's being any quieter than it ever is, it's just the others are trying hard to make a lot more noise. I mean, it's just attached release dates to a bunch of first-party games like WipEout, Uncharted, and Everybody's Golf.

There's really no reason for them to be sending their top execs on press tours right now, I'm sure they have more important stuff to do.

one things for sure

after sony's e3 conference, port begging will be at an all time high on gaf.

When isn't it? After PSX same thing happened. Now we get not just PC fans port begging but the Nintendo fans are now also coming into every thread for PS4 games and saying things like so jeez guys what's the chance of a switch port happening. Meanwhile if i do the same thing for the HD persona project i get warned for port begging.

Actions speak louder than words, and this has been a year where even if they were talking we wouldn't be able to hear them over their actions.

These teases in here have me hyped for the conference now at least.

I asked did we know if project octopath traveler was switch exclusive and got a warning. Meanwhile every crash thread turns into a is it or is it not exclusive

It feels like its been high ever since the Switch was revealed.
Switch port begging has been in almost every thread, fed up of it to be honest.

As for the topic as many have said, Sony are in a good position right now with great sales, some big releases having hit this year and some exclusive marketing coming. They don't need to say a lot of words about nothing right now. I imagine they are getting their E3 stuff ready as it stands.

I remember when someone asked if a ps4 port of ff9 is happening when it was announced for Steam and got instant ban warning which is strange.
PS4 port begging is far less in this forum than Switch or PC port begging yet the former is much more restricted for some reason

This can only mean Bloodborne 2 is real.
Maybe.

I'm thinking it's a game that was multi platform and is now PS4 exclusive or some old IP getting revived.

Demon's Souls for PS4 maybe?

Sony has insane E3 conferences for at least 3 years in a row, and PlayStation Experience shows that rival E3, and OP questions whether Sony has anything to show lol

Unless it's a long dead series being revived, I really hope it isn't "previously multi platform is now exclusive". I was pissed about the Tomb Raider deal.
