Wipeout Omega Collection for PS4

I feel like the most overlooked game is Pure. That game is great if you have all expansions. I wish I could play the more outlandish tracks with a perfect framerate.

I ran into Shawn Layden at PSX last year and asked him to please figure out a way to incorporate PSVR support, even advertise it with a WipeOut themed vomit bag if need be. Long as you default it to external camera (though please give me cockpit cam option with proper warnings!) you're good!!!!

That game was amazing. It was the first PSP game I bought and played it for a long long time.

I still play it to this day, it's also kind of charming that the expansions came out before the PS Store was launched so you had to download them from the website. I think both Pure and Par run at a higher frame rate on the Vita, at least that's been my experience.

There's just something so magical about Pure. I think what does it is the wealth of concept art and world building in that game that's initially hidden but you gradually uncover it.

Pure is amazing, I played that game to death on my PSP. Would be a real shame if none of Pure's tracks eventually made their way onto this.

I love the fact that if I get a PS4 it would be to be able to play this, a remaster of games from a franchise over 20 years old.

I hope it turns out as well as it seems to be going.

What was his response/reaction?

This is really cool! :)
Not including the first one is strange though, that's the one I want the most since that's the one I have the most memories of, it was THE game that jump started the 3D revolution for me.

Sadly he was on his way to something so he just asked my name, shook my hand, and said that we'll see what happens. I thanked him for wearing the shirt, too.

Let's start a Twitter hashtag or something and tweet yosp, the studio involved, etc.

#wipEoutVR maybe?

Wipeout Omega Collection contains the content from Wipeout HD and Wipeout HD Fury (the DLC for Wipeout HD) for PS3, and Wipeout 2048 for Vita.

Since you have Wipeout 2048, it's possible to obtain the Wipeout HD and Wipeout HD Fury content as DLC for that game. (This is a cross-buy freebie if you already HD & Fury on the PS3,) Doing this would give you all of the vehicles and tracks that are also in this game.

One thing to keep in mind is that Wipeout Omega Collection has a different structure, including "racebox" mode for all of the content. Racebox means that you can set up your own custom races--select your track, speed class, and event type. This is a feature that was unfortunately absent from Wipeout 2048. If that is a meaningful addition to the game for you (along with all of the other graphical enhancements, of course), then you'll want to consider getting this game.

Technically it should be wipEout, so pretty much everyone in this thread is wrong, not that it matters.
HOLY CRAP, I am watching that episode of Bob's Burgers, and that moment just came up this minute. Am I psychic, or you for my post?

Perhaps it's just me, but any graphical upgrade for a game like Wipeout is enough for me to double dip.

Doesn't seem like there are many graphical changes apart from resolution, but 60 FPS will feel so much better for 2048. And Racebox will be nice for it.

You could probably fit 2 races in on the PS4 version before the Vita even loaded one race :x

I'll be honest I couldn't stomach the framerate for long in that game but the loading times completely lost my interest. Worst version of Wipeout.

Also, I had a hard time with the 2048 tracks on vita, the colorscheme and small screen and occasional slowdown made them more difficult than necessary, compared to the HD / Fury tracks.

Thankfully now, if you've an older firmware Vita you can overclock it so it gets a flat 30fps in-game on 2048. It's significantly more playable now.

I was also disappointed with 2048 and completed a significantly lower percentage of it than I did for Wipeout, 2097, 3, 3SE, Fusion, Pure, Pulse, and HD/Fury.

The small screen, plus realistic-styled graphics plus low framerate equaled a lot of annoyance and frustration for me. Oh, and of course the unforgivable omission of customizable controls.

Like the addition of new environment effects and textures etc good remastering work all round can also see the new vfx effects from the cars too, tweaked improved lighting, changed and improved stuff everywhere including backgrounds.
Also keep in mind this PS4 Pro footage is the older build from PSX aswell

I don't remember the PS3 version being that blurry though and it was running near native 1080p must be something wrong with his video encoding with Pro footage together

So they did make changes to it other than upping the res, it doesn't jump out at you but once you notice you really appreciate it.

I thought the texture and geometry improvements were clear from the first PSX screenshots.

That PS4 Pro footage definitely isn't the remaster's final form, either.

The difference is even greater than I thought. I just wish it'll have supersampling to provide a crisp look on 1080p displays.

Watched the footage but still not interested even though I really want to be.

There is something about the track design and the way the ship handles that just doesn't compare to Wipeout 2097. The feel it had as you 'just' scraped the sides of the track, how it felt you had to 'push' and grind into corners, it was amazing.

Nowadays everything seems to floaty and clunky (I know its 60fps so what the hell am I talking about lol).

I also think the effects could be much better.

Anyone else feel the same?

I'll probably buy when cheaper and never really every play it, such is my love for Wipeout 2097.

I might add the Vita version seemed to look more like the older ones but still not there. Maybe its just me and my rose tinted glasses?

HD & Fury were the best controlling in the series IMO, topping 2097.

There's something wrong with the capture of the PS3 version there though.
It's nowhere near as soft and muted in real life as it is in the video.

No budget
Budget is the only relevant thing here. People don't want to accept the simple truths -
but properly implementing VR into WipeOut would easily be more expensive than the entire remaster cost.
But with that said - well optimized VR renderer with lens-matching can in fact match the pixel output of a "2d" version - so I would argue this could be brought across with no image quality sacrifices (unless they went for 90hz or higher).
Though again - costs associated with getting that up and running come out of that budget mentioned above.

I'm am so hyped for this game. I've been trying to scratch the itch lately with Fast Racing and Redout and neither one is doing it for me. Last night I watched some videos and it looks fantastic so it got me very excited
