Joycon connection issue may be hardware related

Mine work perfect if unobstructed up to like 15m, but if behind my back, the right is wonky at 10m and the left disconnects at the same distance.
Right is G39A and left is G45A.

Managed to take the controller apart and mess with the solder, no wire insertion or anything. It seems to work a lot better, now! It's hard to read the ID on the side, I think it says B012? So that's a problem one.

Played with the Pro Controller up to today. Tried some Tetris Demo and KoF with a friend and it was really bad for me. Played with the joycons in the grip, about 1.5m away from the console with nothing in the line of sight.

I got drops regularly and in the Tetris Demo it cost me the game a few times.

So what is the best way to go about this? I got them from Amazon - better to contact them or Nintendo? Order a new pair and send the old ones back instead as defect?

About to send back my left JC to Nintendo today. I'm in France. They only asked for the JoyCon and announced 10 to 15 days before I have it back. No disconnections but random input drops 2 meters away from the dock.

The joycon issue is actively making me not want to play Zelda on my TV. It's acting up constantly for me and I'm sitting about 2 - 2,5 meters away from the dock with a clear line of sight to the controller. I'm fed up with this shit to be honest. I've never had issues with any other wireless controller. Might give Nintendo a call this week to see if I can send them the joycon only, but I doubt it will do me any good, as Nintendo clearly fucked up and cheaped out on these things.

Same situation, in France too. The sync issues were really bad this week end ... How did you contact Nintendo France ? From the website ?

For what it's worth, I called them in NA yesterday and was able to arrange a joy-con only repair, no system. Was offered expedited shipping for free and is supposed to take only a few days. Will report with the results when I get it back!

Update: Shipped mine Tuesday, received it back on Monday. From my casual testing so far, I don't feel like it's quite as good as my Joy-Con R, but definitely an improvement over before sending it in. Better, but not perfect. This is for my left one.

Could you test the stick from the calibration menu to let us know?

Having sent my day one left joycon to Nintendo I bought a second pair today because I decided I didn't want to be deprived of handheld mode for the time of the repair and obviously my brand new joycon drops input like the original one 2 meters away from the dock. I'll be sending it too once I get the first back.

What is going on with these controllers?

Just discovered this is a major issue.

I got the switch day one, didn't play it until I took it on a 13 hour flight and the entire duration of that trip I had the joycons connected to the main console. Put about 40 hours into Zelda.

Got home and finally wanted to play Zelda on the big screen only to find out 50% of the time the left joycon disconnects. I don't want to be without a controller for a week. Nintendo should ship you a new one with a credit card hold until you return the broken one back.

Got a left Joy-Con back from Nintendo. It's a new one and not the one I sent. Works perfectly, took 8 days.

Now to send the 2nd one which is from release day too.

I really need to send mine in. I'd like to finish Zelda before losing my controller for a week, though. Control is interrupted every few minutes and I've even had a few full disconnects now. The game pauses and I am prompted to hold down the shoulder buttons to reconnect my joycons. I only sit about six feet away. It's crazy that this made it through production.

Has anyone living in Canada tried sending back a joycon yet? Wondering if the process is seamless, and fast like in US.

I exchanged mine at EB before the 30 days were up, hoping I'd get one from a better batch, but same issues (as I figured) so I'll have to sent to Nintendo to fix.

I wonder how many repair requests they have received.

Finally tested mine in the calibration menu. No issues until about 15 feet away, covering the joycon completely, and putting it behind my back. Any closer and it has perfect responsiveness even while covering + behind the back.

I test L&R neon as well as a pair of greys that I picked up. All four were good.

Yep. I did. Seamless. Took 8 days door to door. Works flawlessly now.

Yeah, I've tried that with no issue. I've also taken mine into different rooms of the house and they've stayed connected pretty efficiently, only going off when the distance/obstructions add up significantly.

I just fixed my left joycon with a tri-wing screwdriver and some conductive foam.
Took me maybe five minutes, so easy but I just couldn't be bothered sending it back.

Does anyone know if the neon pair that comes with Snipperclips on Amazon UK have this issue? I want to buy that bundle, but CBA if I'm gonna have to send it straight off to Nintendo after I get it.

amazon.de had a notice on the joy-con page for the last few days that basically said they stopped selling them because an unusual amount of customers complained about defects and that they would resolve the issue with the manufacturer. The notice is gone now and the joy-con are back up and for sale. I guess that should mean all new orders will have working left joy-con. I was waiting to pick up a second set and will test if these work without issues when they arrive.

So I took a gamble and tried to set up the repair while I was away from my Nintendo Switch (I know, unlikely).

The CSR asked for the serial number and said they need to troubleshoot the situation first. I then asked him, isn't this a well known issue with the Switch. He told me there are no known hardware problems with the switch and it sounds like my problem might not be the problem that is currently affecting the joycons.

Anyway, I just thought that was hilarious.

I literally had to read that twice lol

Just got reminded of my post here that i forgot because the thread got bumped. The new joy-con i purchased still had the connection issue on the left controller, so i just said fuck it and did the foam fix myself because it was easy enough. Works fine now.

So there's still no guarantee that a new pair will work correctly? Just great... I was going to buy a second pair when I send my current left joycon in. But now I'm not so sure.

Mine doesn't, but it's the only situation it loses connectivity. Can play with it fine otherwise.

There in no Nintendo official product in my country but the seller gave me 3 months. I am still unsure if I should exchange now or just deal with it

Is there a tutorial?

I think the safest option now is to get a pro controller, though, I know some might not be looking for that solution. I will wait until they completely revise this before even considering a 2nd joycon.

I watched this video the day before performing the fix, once you know where to put the foam it is pretty straight forward. The most tricky part is actually finding a tri wing screwdriver. I had trouble at stores but there are plenty online. https://youtu.be/QNHHA0T7TdQ

It all dependy on how fast retailers go through supply i guess. At least the neon yellow joy-con should be completely fine once they release in june. Unless they produced them months ago and just kept them from being sold.

Last night while playing Zelda, both of my joycons started having desync issues simultaneously. It lasted for a couple of minutes and then went away. Neither joycon has had any desync issues up until this point, even successfully passing the behind-the-back test. Has anyone else had this happen?

Edit: I should mention I was sitting roughly 6 feet away from my Switch at the time with a direct, unobstructed line of sight between it and the joycons.

One of my joycons completely refuses to turn on now. I noticed it was getting more and more inconsistent and it seems it has finally died. Doesn't light up when used remotely and provides no input when attached. Pretty disappointed. Was looking forward to finishing Zelda this weekend.

Left Joycon issue had not been fixed in the new batch of systems, my Switch arrived from Amazon yesterday and has the same weak signal issue from launch units.

sent my joycons in a couple of weeks ago and only this morning got a text from Nintendo saying they'd received them and will look at them soon. FFS.

..then about 30 mins later I get another text saying they're looking at them.

..another 30 mins and another text 'we've dispatched your joycons and they should be with you in a couple of days'

Oh Nintendo.

Dusted off the Switch last night after a few weeks of disuse and bought Kamiko with some eShop funds I had.

The left joycon delay issues hit me like a ton of bricks, ugh, I had forgotten all about it. The character I was playing was walking in directions I was no longer holding. How annoying.

Any word on whether or not stock I find in stores is fixed yet? I'd honestly rather just do a return and exchange to get a working left joycon at this point.

Probably not, but how can you even return it so long after buying it?

So I swapped out my left joy con at Game this past weekend. Anecdotally, the girl working there told me that Nintendo UK knew about this issue up front and were sending advice to retailers BEFORE launch. No idea if true of course....

I would purchase the pair of blue joycons, swap the left one with mine, and return them as defective, which isn't a lie. Retailer returns the joycons to Nintendo and gets refunded.

Sent my left joycon to the italian Nintendo repair service, they did an overwhelmingly fast job (less than a week including shipping times AND a holiday), no issues since then. Surprised me a bit because at the phone they had told me it would take about *two* weeks!?

I've also bought a second pair, apparently from the already working lot: they're flawless.

Got my joycons back but the note inside said they repaired my left blue joycon, but no mention of the red one which was desyncing. I hope they looked at that too..

Finally called yesterday and set up a return.

Just to double check, for people in NA (I'm in Ohio) the shipping label they gave me is going to United Radio Inc. in East Syracuse NY.

Does that sound right?

It does say "NOA Repair" under description.

I just sent mine in. Dropped it off Tuesday, arrived, repaired, shipped back Wednesday. Received it Thursday. Mine went to United Radio in Syracuse.

Played ~12 races or so of Mario Kart with the repaired joycon and didn't experience the issue at all.

That's a crazy turn around time. I called to send mine in on Sunday. Shipped out Monday. Arrived on Wednesday and has scanned in as "Received" on Thursday. No change in status since. Kind of a bummer.

I had my right joycon start to occasionally lose connection and just not charge at times. Very concerning. Not a launch unit - received about a month ago.

Are you in the US? Good luck finding another pair of blue controllers. They're as hard to come by as the Switch itself. And as far as anyone can tell, the corrected joycons have not filtered through the system yet, there is still a chance that you'll get another bad one from the store.

Awesome, thanks.

Shipping it out today and hoping for a quick turnaround.

Guys, the tablet itself can be the issue too.

Had my right joycon sent twice because it worked like shit , this was after having my left one repaired .

Both times they told me red joycon was fine, but it wasn't working properly. So had to send in the switch tablet and they replaced it for a new one.

The same right joycon works perfectly now in the new unit , alongside the Left one, so it seems it was the tablet which sucked, not the controllers -at least not the right one-

Did you lose your saves?

I'm worried my tablet is the culprit, actually. I've tried several different joy-cons and all of them start having issues if my legs blocks line of sight while sitting on the couch (about 8 feet away). My latest pair only does it under extreme circumstances though, and both pass the behind-the-back test (from about 12 feet away) with flying colours, so I'm not really sure what to think.
