Assassin's Creed Origins screenshot leaks, new details (AC4 team, Naval combat, more)

I'm saying that if Ubi was waiting to see the general player response to Evie before signing off on a mainline entry with a female protagonist, then Origins isn't going be that title.

I said as much myself on the previous page. ;)

Ohh okk, sorry misunderstood you. Plus it's late so lol. Evie was a great protag, least we can agree on that :)

Boats again? Ugh. Hopefully the main game is good though. Loved Unity but couldn't force myself through Syndicate.

Sounds interesting I guess.

But to get me interested in this franchise again I need to see stuff like a completely reworked combat and stealth gameplay and open world design that moves away from the repetitive and boring structure of previous games.

I hope there is waaay more to this game than "our biggest world yet"

You underestimate Ubi lol. The new game is a soft reboot. Keeping everything before from the lore but starting a new chapter in the past and present. If you read the comics, they've been pushing a character called Charlotte de la Cruz hard. So hard infact that she's got her on hoodie on UbiWorkShop. She's pretty much the centre of the comics right now. She's the next desmond. At least I hope so. Either her or Galina, I'm no bothered.

Sorry double post :S

I'd prefer this to the way every game since 4 has handled things. I'm also adamant that Evie was wasted on Syndicate, so Charlotte being the new star would go a long way. Ubi is generally great about diversity so a Latina female protagonist is right up their alley and I know they'll do it justice.

A formula breaker?

I like what I'm hearing in that OP.

Perhaps the wave of inspiration is coming to the genre, after Breath of the Wild.

Nope. Don't want a character who has already been introduced outside of the games. That's just setting yourself up for failure already.

Well, they've learned nothing, AGAIN. And AGAIN we'll have needless and massive open world, AGAIN we'll see at least millions of icons on the map with shitty and boring quests and missions, collectable shit etc. cuz they simply can't do better. And 10-15 hour (at best) story will be stretched for 100-120 hours, AGAIN. WTF is wrong with you Ubi? Why are so fucking stupid and impenetrable? People (not AC fanboys) got extremely bored and tired from all this shit after 10 years of basicaly the same games every fuckin' year. Why it's so fucking hard for you Ubi to make a story driven and linear Uncharted-like game or POP-like (Sands series) game which would have been a shit ton better than your bog-standard and boring as shit massive open world games?

I know it's just a rumor and all that but... deep inside I just know it's true, or at least most of it and... well... fuck this shit. Stop making massive and boring as shit open world games!

In short because open world sells and AC was open world game since beginning.

What a brilliant argumentation))))))

Well guess what, Ghost Recon was not an open world game since the beginning and omg look at this abomination - https://ghost-recon.ubisoft.com/wildlands/en-us/home/ No one asked for this shit. They should've fixed Future Soldier's problems (most of which is related to boring and needles focus on stupid action sequences which ruined the game) and make a new game in similar style but with more focus on tactics, planning and all that (look at GRAW1-2). But nope, shitty open world game, AGAIN. Make it stop!

And Wildlands sold better than any other Ghost Recon.

What's the point if the game is shit? Apparently $ is all they care about nowadays. Well F them then. Can't say I care about Ubi, they are not making games for me and for so many other people anymore. Maybe Vivendi will shake things a bit if they acquire them and Ubi sure ass hell need a massive shake-up cuz creative impotence in their AAA studios is off the fucking charts (except R6S guys, they are good), not to mention Guillemots which need go away and fast!

They may not be making games for you anymore, but that doesn't make their games shit. The numbers would indicate that they are making games for a much larger number of people now than they did before, and people wouldn't be buying them if they weren't enjoying them. At the end of the day Ubi games are selling like hotcakes, so like it or not they are clearly doing something right.

My GF studies history and while researching a paper she stumbled upon the head research consultant of Ubisoft (I presume for AC). He's a historian that's actually specialized in Abyssinia/Akum/horn of Africa and not Egypt. The horn of Africa is the birthplace of mankind so I presume we will be learning more about the first civilzation and the creation of man. If that's the case Origins makes sense as a title.

Well, first of all, I'm not alone and it's not just me they need to think about (but they don't so fuck them again), and second of all.... yes, most of their games - shit. Why? Сuz 1) they are focusing on co-op and multiplayer games with boring and bog-standard open world only - HUGE mistake and HUGE waste of potential of their studios and people overall ; 2) zero good single player games they used to make long time ago (Splinter Cell, Ghost Recon, POP etc.) and the ones they have for like 9 year already is open world games. There's very few exceptions which don't change much cuz it's like 10% of games at best.

Ubi is literally the one and only company which making games exclusively in open world no matter fucking what. They still don't get that there's also an audience which still interested in much more better and single player only games without fucking open world they used to make and they can still make money by making and selling games for it... but here's the thing, they don't give a flying fuck. I won't be suprised if the next Splinter Cell is yet another open world game (MGSV-like) and if it is... fuck them even harder.

Again they are company and they do things to earn money and support over 12K jobs. They could make great linear SP only games but then they would need to lay off hundreds because there is relatively small demand for those kind of games (look at Dishonored 2 for example). It is not their job to please specific group of people, their job is to please as much people as possible because that means money.

Interested to see how Ubi firther handle the modern day timeline aspect of AC.
They had something good going on early but by AC3 and after they really butchered it and turned it into a whole after thought.

I know people hate the modern day bit of AC but I personally enjoyed the overarching narrative and first civilisation plot threads throughout the games.

Well that's because for you video games are a hobby. They have to pay wages and single players game rarely could pay for such massive studios as ubisoft has.

Just because you don't like them it doesn't mean their games are shit or do you think every food you don't like is shit?

A lot of people seem to like their open world games so maybe instead of shitting on them you should take a look at your own taste of genres before shitting on genres you don't like.

I hope they ignore it. The modern day stuff has always been the worst part of the games imo.

gave away the keys to the kingdom.
Personally, AssCreed would be of little to no interest to me if it weren't an open-world collectathon underpinned by a focus on historical tourism.

I personally hate modern story and I would love to get rid of Animus animation in the game while in simulation (white-blinking block things in general). while I get that it's the part that keep you remind this is simulation but for me it's kind of pull me off the immersion.

My several friends that I suggested this game, they are quite confuse when first time playing this game when facing future plot because they expected that they are ACTUALLY BEING assassin in that time period not some kind of simulator. Maybe Origins (if it good) would bring so many fan in then they will struck in mindset like I explained above IMO.

Btw, If it happen to have one, i would like them to further use Calum Lynch from Movie as modern day protagonist, i think he has something interesting.

Heh well you get your wish and I don't!

Haven't Ubi all but confirmed they will now focus on the period setting and barely acknowledge the modern day story?
I remember an interview or something mention this during AC4.

In the Truth video in an earlier game it shows Adam and Eve stealing a piece of Eden and ending up on the roof of a first civilisation building. The background of that scene appears to have Mt Kilimanjaro in it so that would definitely make sense. Which probably means it won't happen haha.

i don't get why people enjoy naval combat. it's slow and clunky. i find t odd that it gets such praise in a pretty quick paced action game

I like you. I like you alot. I'm a big fan of the modern day story of AC. Not sure why people don't like it. Its the very backbone of the series.

It could be a lack of pirate based games on consoles.

I love the naval combat. These ships didn't turn on a dime and were slow and clunky to move.

I get such joy lining up my ship and firing a direct hit from a full broadside and the destruction it causes.

I love the naval parts of Black Flag and Rogue but after looking up some info about naval combat and sailing in ancient Egypt, I'm not sold on it for this game. I like sailing big-ass cool-looking pirate ships while firing cannon barrages at enemy Man o'Wars and listening to sea shanties. Looking at the ships from old Egypt and reading about some of the battles doesn't have me excited at all. I guess I'll probably be able to spend money to upgrade my ship with what though, more shackled rowers beneath the decks?

It did that with Syndicate. In fact, with time, I feel like Syndicate is superior to AC2 after removing the rose-tinted goggles.

Neither me or my wife gave two fucks about evie and jake compared to Ezio. They were just two bozos.

Only characters I've cared abput in this series are Ezio and Aveline.

The charisma of the protagonist is so important in these games.

Focus on more open-ended game could be good, but this is Ubisoft. Still makes me think it's Cleopatra era, late Roman Republic/Early Roman Empire. The "Origins" thing though suggest it could also be much earlier.

Well, first of all, I'm not alone

You are effectively alone. For AAA games, the market has embraced open-world design wholeheartedly. Nobody is interested in selling 3 million copies of a linear single-player action game that people can beat in a week when they could sell 10 million copies of an open-world game that buyers will be talking about and grabbing DLC for months later. (Or, if you want to compare the most successful examples of each, nobody is interested in selling 9m copies of Uncharted if they have the ability to instead sell 75 million copies of GTA V.)

If all of this is true, I'm going to have to change my plans for purchasing games this holiday! I'd probably buy a new AC regardless, but everything listed here sounds like exactly what I'd want. Can't wait to see all the Ubisoft editions ranging from $59.99 to $199.99

Changing subtitles from Empires to Origins is like going from a Mercedes Benz to a Honda Civic.

This. The info sounds good, but it really is one of the laziest subtitles you can think of, not just in gaming.

What would you have them use instead?

The Beginning? The Start? The Birth?

Origin actually has a meaning behind the term. Is it really lazy to use an actual word that in its definition is the most appropriate of the very beginning of something.
