How's that 'no review copies before release' working out for you Bethesda?
Don't worry, they'll find a way to blame something or someone else

I mean we are getting a System Shock 1 remake and a System Shock 3. So there are things in the pipeline
On the indie side there is Consortium upcoming although it is tiny budget. Obviously there is SS3 coming as well, but that's about it.
Prey doesnt strike as a particularly expensive game though.
Because it's the worldwide standard people have been using for years.
Nah, I saw trailers at the cinema, just saw one before GotG Vol 2 a few days ago. I'm pretty sure there are posters on train stations and buses.0 marketing by my observations.

Who to believe now?

what's the maximum size for picture allowed here?
.The game is amazing. That's all you need to know.
This is where Bethesda's policy hurts. Even if some of the MIA reviews are right within the average (say 85/100) and don't change the overall picture very much, it is more exposure. I know TheRadBrad did a one hour walk through of the game, but I don't know if the game got talked about very much on other popular channels (they all seem too busy freaking out about not being able to monetize M-Rate COD content). If people on here are looking at this as quasi-stealth release, the general public isn't going to be very aware of it.Yeah, really.
I didn't even know the damn game is out. :lol
I think it's the end of immersive sims. They're all bombas.
This isn't the end, but it's close. It doesn't seem like the market is there for AAA immersive sims anymore. The sales don't come close to offsetting the actual costs + opportunity costs. I'm not even sure of any indies doing anything in this space either.
I hope it's at least the end of that stupid name.
Putting Prey, Deus Ex etc in the same category as soma, Firewatch etc makes zero sense.
Prey is wonderful people. Buy it!
Who's been calling Soma and Firewatch immersive sims? Walking Sim seems like the title most thrown at Firewatch and Soma is just a horror game. Interactive drama is another genre name I've seen thrown at them.
They don't even have any elements tangentially related to an immersive sim.
On the indie front there's also The Signal from Tölva, which came out last month.

System Shock remake and System Shock 3 are still being developed, along with Underworld Ascendent. Might be the end for AAA involvement though. Not unless this builds up fast.I think it's the end of immersive sims. They're all bombas.

Though it could instead be the end for Bethesda doing a blanket no review copy policy. That'd be nice and is just looking really, really stupid now.
Plenty of people probably have good reasons not to buy it (they want multiplayer games, don't like the setting, etc, etc), but if those people don't know the game is out, then they don't get to the point of even making that decision. That some people on GAF don't know a major Bethesda game is out screams: not enough marketing. But is the lack of marketing the only reason or do people for some reason just don't want to buy it?
The Remake was announced for Xbox and PC initially with no PS4 version and that was a big deal with people then (they since announced they'd get it on PS4 too.)A bit off topic but are the two Shocks (remake & 3) slated for console releases at all or PC only?

Goddamn this is such a shame because this is one hell of a game and 100% worth your money if your even remotely into space/sci-fi in gaming. Would absolutely hate to see Arkane leaving eventually due to this. How did Dishonored 2 do in terms of sales?

Dunno about SS3 though, I'd imagine they'd try to get it on consoles too.
Prey is already out?
I added a quick note about Deus Ex: Mankind Divided's sales, since that's also an immersive sim, and a game that did badly enough to get the series killed.
It debuted at ~38K.
I've seen some let's play on YouTube. But I did not really watch them. I'm not even sure what kind of kind it is and what the game is about.
Only even knew because I saw one or two Let's Plays. Sad part is it might be up my alley, but I barely knew it existed.
To be honest I have seen pretty much zero marketing for it, also no review copies, I'm still waiting on some before I purchase.
Prey is already out?
I still hold the firm conviction that this would have got more press coverage as a new IP rather than a reboot of a game very few cared about. The name Prey couldn't be more generic, really.
I feel like the demo has hurt it.
I did not like the demo at all. It's literally the reason I won't even consider buying it. I doubt I'm the only one.

Hell, I wish the real System Shock 3 could have the budget and backing from a big publisher that Prey has received for nothing.
I fear for Arkane after Dishonoured 2 and Prey. Top notch games, shit sales.
Bethesda always releases games on Friday. I actually prefer it, as it means more time to play.
Prey is already out?
"Immersive Sim" makes me think of something like Everything or Harvest Moon. This game doesn't give me the impression that it is like Everything/Harvest Moon.
It also made sure that a lot of the talk was "no, this is not the old Prey!" in coverage, which might confuse people, since they now feel they are in the middle of a series instead of just a new game.I still hold the firm conviction that this would have got more press coverage as a new IP rather than a reboot of a game very few cared about. Oh I completely agree with you.
I clicked the link that was posted from Giantbomb earlier in the thread. https://www.giantbomb.com/immersive-sim/3015-5700/
They lump, BioShock, Deus Ex, Firewatch, Fallout, SOMA, Alien Isolation etc etc all in the same stupid "immersive sim" category. haha it triggers me so hard to see that.
