Forza Horizon 3 PC Performance Thread

What resolution are you running at? I'm on a 1080, 6700k @ stock with every setting maxed at 1920x1200 and getting 90-110 fps just driving around surfers paradise (so far just day time free roaming). Feels much smoother now and so far no noticeable stutter.

2560x1440, the game is probably still reasonably CPU bottlenecked so we're not getting the most out of either of our GPUs at these resolutions, but the bottlenecks have been seemingly significantly reduced.

My CPU utilization hovers around ~60% across all 8 threads, sounds pretty normal for me. Getting 80-110fps depending on scenario at 1440p is about right for GTX1080 at max settings.

Drove through surfer's paradise on my laptop.. 6700HQ, 16GB ram, GTX 1060 6GB

playing @ 1080p, 'High' preset.

Driving through the Tram area of surfer's paradise.. pre patch.. significant dips, as low as 30 fps

post patch, this area stays at 60. I did see one drop to 45 when I turned around and drove back down, but it jumped right back up to 60 and stayed there. no more noticeable stuttering when driving around in other areas, either..

This patch has made significant improvements, no doubt.

Very much less CPU bottlenecking in general, should be great for pcs with less beefy cpus

6700k @ stock
16 GB of RAM @ 3000 MHz
970 w/ 1440 MHz OC & 376.54 drivers
custom settings, based off high with reduced world detail
1920x810 res

starting game, going through surfers paradise on the same path (2 lefts onto light rail until the end, then left to go along the beach)
old version:

Much better. You can see one moment where several threads are pegged but not the single thread disaster from the old version. Still appears CPU limited by the low GPU utilization though.

Major improvement here. Did a race in Surfers and drove through during night+rain and got 70-90FPS with some drops to around 60 when it was caching stuff from HDD.

GTX 1070, 4700k, playing at 1080p with all Ultra+MSAA at 4x

Prepatch i got hard drops to around 40 and it never went as high as 60. Very good stuff.

It's definitely an improvement along the tram track at Surfers Paradise. It no longer dips under 60fps on ultra settings + hood cam (which happens to be more demanding than cockpit cam). Frame times are still pretty inconsistent, though. So, that FH3 PC "trademark micro stutter" is still there at times. But, again, it's much improved on the CPU front. GPU performance was never really a bottleneck in my experience, and it's still pretty good.

Tested on both 5820K @ 4.3Ghz. and 7700K @ 4.5Ghz. Will be purchasing the expansion pass later today. =)

Lol. Some of these posts. "I'm getting perfect performance on a 7700k and a 1080ti on a better optimized game!" Like, no shit.

Going to try on my 2500k OC4.5 and 980 once I get home tonight. See the real optimization lol.

ive got an i5 4690K at 4.4Ghz and a GTX980, was getting almost locked 60 in the outback and anything from 60-38fps at surfers paradise, I'm just updating and will report back

Well considering even high end systems had trouble with this game, this is a big deal.

Currently downloading the game again to see how much better it will be for me.

Yet again, the MS store is fucking garbage. It says I'm downloading at 30-40MB/s. After close to 15 minutes, it has downloaded 4,8GB.. Yeah, those numbers don't add up at all.

Thanks good some modest settings! Waiting for your results guys

Have you updated the store app? Apparently it's a little better now.

But really they need a team dedicated to the store app. Their PC gaming future depends on it. If they can get the store right a lot of gamers will follow.

My download just keeps stopping because of some error, have to keep pushing resume every 5 minutes.

Infuriating.

Game keeps crashing when attempting to load after choosing 'Continue' from the main menu. Cannot play :(

Anyone else on AMD having issues?

I'm a try and roll back my drivers, reset the UWP app, etc.

Stuck with infinite loading screen tried reset app but cant be arsed to roll back drivers, on Fx6300 and RX470

Much much better. Natively (2560x1080) @60/Ultra with no hitching until 4x DSR. dropping just 3-4 frames in the same places pre-patch. Likely pretty easy to tweak. Over SteamLink at 4x DSR/Ultra/1080p and not a single hitch. Previously it seemed no matter what I did I would always drop frames in very specific spots. Now I am looking forward to getting back with this game.

Current setup
7700k w/ a GTX1080

Yeah, it was updated today. I'm pretty sure the app is actually showing MB/s when it's supposed to be Mb/s like in the screenshot above. Good job MS, can't even do that right.

I'm thrilled to see that people are finally seeing desired performance on PC. I'll be picking this game up soon (on Xbox), I hope more PC folks jump in too.

Has demo been updated or is it just the main game? Curious to give it a try...

If they're smart, they will. Any time a PC release has a shaky start (tech-wise), I generally want a demo or benchmark to reflect improvements before I'll trust a full-price buy. I bought this at launch, so I'm in (and happy to see these results), but I know how I am normally. All that said, I basically consider this game a classic, in terms of its quality.

Game mode is a beast?

I assure you, it's not.

Anyone tried the game with a pretty old ass cpu? All those impressions are nice, but I wonder if my old ass i7 870 can now run the game decently.

Ran great before but I just pretty much maxed everything out and still above 60fps.

Also, I fucking hate that on Windows you have to start the game before you can update. Moreover, even after starting the game I then again had to minimize and download another patch. Ridiculously backwards compared to Steam, Origin or even patching on the XB1.

I'm so glad to see this patch. I would get random drops to like 40-45 fps. I hope this stops it, can't wait to try it out when I get home.

Some folks on reddit are getting crashes.

I have no evidence this is related, but this most recent Nvidia update gave me serious, ongoing crash issues with my video editing software. Nothing showed up in any of my games, but it was a quirk that showed up after a clean install/update of the software involved.

I think you have to turn on auto updates

Based Playground games.
Would like to try it on my laptop now (6700HQ, 960M) but I only have the demo.

You think optimisation has anything to do with Playground tweaking things for the Scorpio version ?
Seems the game relies too heavily on CPU to hit 60fps on Scorpio anyway, but that was expected.
