Critical Role: Voice Actors Playing D&D

that show is terrible. how does it keep getting renewed?

Actually, given that this is GAF and sequels to terrible videogames keep getting greenlighted, don't answer that.
Considering it was 8th in ratings out of 10 NBC dramas I can only imagine the possible replacements for next season all sucked.

Damn, I got the 5e starter set for Christmas and me and a few friends have been playing that since January, none of us have played before and I'm the DM. Could have done with watching this earlier to get some tips on DMing but we're right at the very end now..

Got storm kings thunder lined up next, but we're switching about and I won't be DMing that. Still, I'll give this a watch, totally fallen in love with D&D this year!

More money to promote a new show if an existing one isn't completely hemorrhaging, I guess.

Glad she's getting paid, but would love to see her back full time with CR.

This is off to a great start.

Tary's been kidnapped.

This is gonna be amazing, but god damn, we're just getting further and further away from the main plot and it's almost 100 episodes into season one.

The funniest near-permadeath.

I was sadistically hoping that they wouldn't be able to save her, it would have been a hilarious way for the groups first real death too occur.

Plus there's how entertaining the rest of the episode could have been if it had started out that way.

I'm pleasantly surprised that Vex's oracle arrow worked, and I'm glad that plot line gained some traction. I wonder if the newly exalted weapon got anything new.

It feels like Taryon's storyline will probably just be a few weeks with maybe some hooks into the final arc with
Vecna in his Mordor tower.
Also, Tary shit talking Scanlan should be a running gag.
Just started watching the new episode. What a way to start the game. LOL
I just have to say,
Marisha was looking at Matt like "Why are you doing this to me?", meanwhile I'm like, "Bitch, you jumped off a cliff that was over 1000 feet. Even if you hit the water you would've been incredibly fucked up at the very least, and still most likely dead". Though I guess this gives a more contextual reason for Keyleth's future insane decisions since we can all assume she received some lasting brain damage from a fall like that. I think it's fine that she gets drunk or high or whatever before the show, but maybe she should hold back a bit because she's been even more scatterbrained and erratic the last month or so than usual.

I feel like I've asked this before awhile ago, at least I've thought about asking it, but...

If I want to get into this, I'm good to start at the beginning right? Also, it's just video only, no podcast version?

They did a survey a few weeks ago, and one of the questions was asking about interest in a podcast or audio only version. I have hope that we'll end up with an official audio version eventually--would make my commutes better.

And people still need to be professional because it's also a show.

They've said repeatedly that they'd stop if this ever became just a job or production. I don't want to watch professionals play D&D. I like watching them play their own game.

Still not ok to call someone a bitch and be such a, well, bitch towards someone who just did a silly thing in a D&D game.

¯_(ツ)_/¯
Excuse my familiar language. It wasn't meant in a "Marisha is a bitch" way, it was meant in a "Girl, what are you talking about?" way. As one might say to a friend or in a hypothetical interaction that was actually only one way because it was me reacting in my head to a crazy moment in a show that I like. I didn't think it would be taken that way.

I'll watch my language.

But I am discussing a consistent behavior trait and play style which I think detracts from the overall group experience, not a one-off incident.

Of course that's fine. I want them to be playing a casual game, because that's what the show is, and that's what I like about it. HOWEVER, it feels like people are willfully ignoring the way it clearly makes the other players in the group annoyed/confused/baffled when Marisha is just out of it and not paying attention to what's going on. It doesn't have to be a scripted, somber affair to be respectful of the other players and the dungeon master who is crafting the game and explaining things.

That's how I interpreted it. Some folks just lack reading comprehension ability.

I just started watching these in the past couple of weeks, and I'm already up to episode 8. I'm really enjoying them, and Matt is a great DM.

Although for some reason Marisha just
totally flipped out on Lady Kima
, and it was so weird and cringey I had to pause it. Is she trying to RP someone who has random outbursts of nonsensical condescension?

I'm just going to tell you this now, so you won't be disappointed. That cringe feeling doesn't go away when it comes to Keyleth. It's been nearly 100 episodes and in some areas it gets even worse. But 50% of that is by design. Marisha roleplays her as socially incompetent on purpose.

Don't let it dissuade you though. The show is fantastic and while she can be annoying as all hell, the dynamic works well enough with her so its no biggie. Very rarely does she truly detract from the story, but she is a walking facepalm of a character if I've ever seen one.

She's cringey sometimes but has some great moments too. I usually just watch the other players' faces when she's acting like that which makes me feel better because they usually look like they feel the same way as me.

Matt is an A+, 10/10 DM every week. It's pretty crazy how consistently great he is, and it has honestly made me wary of actually trying to play D&D myself because he has raised the bar so high in my mind.

The show just gets better and better, though there is a rough patch with a particular player for a few episodes in the 20's or so, but after that it's smooth sailing.

It's a show on an internet network. Ship's sailed.

I'm so over people thinking passion goes out the window whenever anything becomes work. Which a show on Twitch is.

She must be a really good roleplayer, then, because it wasn't exactly a laugh out loud 40 Year Old Virgin type of social incompetence. She somehow made the atmosphere around the table genuinely awkward while interacting with a fictional character. It was hilarious how halfway through everyone else was going "let's just sleep on it" and desperately trying to derail the conversation.

Ehh, yeah she's just not as experienced as a performer. When you have an awkward person playing an even awkwarder character... it can get rough lol. It's all the more glaring because the rest of them (including Orion) are impressive actors. But they all seem to like her.

It's ultimately a game and she is playing Keyleth as she sees fit, so all I can really do is shrug and facepalm when she *minimal spoilers*
nearly kills herself due to incompetence time and time again
. Half the fun is seeing how the rest of the crew reacts to these moments.

I feel like an 1000 ft fall would be getting into red paste territory. It's pretty close to falling from the empire state building. I haven't watched the episode yet, still in catch up mode but I heard about it on Twitter.

Don't worry. "We're gods!"

There's definitely at level of actual social awkwardness involved. Which makes it all the more annoying when you bring something up and people think "But the character is awkward!" is the only thing needed to be said. I mean, you can just watch Talks Machina to see that there is bleed over between the actor and character.

I'm very interested to see what kind of character Marisha plays in the next campaign. I have a sneaking suspicion that they will be a bit socially awkward too.

A comparison with more "impact" would be that falling 50 meters is like getting hit by a car going 70 mph. She's falling like 6 times that amount. If you account for air friction, she's hitting the ground at terminal velocity. I don't think it would even hurt at that speed but it would be messy.

Yeah, there would be little left of the body. He did a kindness by letting the body be salvageable for a regular revivify.
Actually afterwords he realized he made a mistake cause 5e has a cap on fall damage, and can only go up to 120 max (20d6). So it wouldn't have killed her. Wouldn't have even incapped her.
