Twin Peaks Season 3 Premieres May 21 - 2 Hour Premiere

The book (only one new one has released so far, a sequel is in the works)
appears to retcon Annie's entire existence, she's not mentioned and it stands out because there are instances when she should be, and Norma is even given a brand new mother instead of the food critic that appears in the series. Keep in mind it's presented as a dossier though, it's not a novel. Who knows what Annie's absence is supposed to mean. Some people say it's a straight up season 2 retcon, others theorize alternate universes, I think it's a conspiracy of sorts and I'm hoping to see it play out in season 3.

Your take is the same as my take.

I don't know if we'll see her in season 3, but I think
Garland was trying to cover up her existence for good reason.

I checked out FWWM for the first time. I didn't really care for it, tbh. I don't think it would make a lick of sense as a standalone film to anyone who hasn't seen the show, either. That said, The only scene I thought really added anything was
Annie Blackburn's appearance to Laura.
The rest was pretty much just a rehash of what the show already explained at length.

It is a film about sexual abuse, it's not really supposed to continue anything

I've heard it said before that the film holds no suspense or interest because we already know what's going to happen and we've inferred what it tells us about Laura. I think there's a huge difference between inferring things from details of a crime investigation and actually witnessing them and empathising with the victim. The movie totally refocuses our conception of the the heart and soul of the Twin Peaks universe.

Is it really?

I don't see much of a relation unless I am missing something? D.B. Cooper was investigated by the FBI, I guess.

It is, his full name is Dale Bartholomew Cooper. It's just a reference, he is not literally DB Cooper.

But DB Cooper actually gave his name as Dan Cooper. It was a mishearing/misreported and it stuck.

correct about everything
so is it "the man from another place" or "the little man from another place"? i always thought it was just MFAP but i have seen some people refer to him as LMFAP. don't remember ever seeing that before, and i am just assuming the L stands for little. feels a bit rude.

If you think that's rude wait til you see the shit that actor said about Lynch lol

I mean "little person" is the preferred nomenclature. You should see how the media talked about the character back then. Midget was of course used, but I've also seen Elf. Talk about rude.

In the Netherlands Lilliputter (from Gullivers travels) or Dwerg (Dwarf) was used :/

Does anyone actually consider whether or not Ben Horne
is Donna's father
as an unresolved loose end? I've seen that mentioned in a ton of reviews/recaps ahead of the new season, but I feel like the answer to that was pretty clearly spelled out in the S2 finale.

So are we thinking BOB as Coop has been killing people for 25 years? Because that's a pretty tragic fate for Coop.

Spoilers! We've got some people watching for the first time in this thread.

And yeah, I think that's what's been happening, while
Good Coop is trapped in the Red Room. And I think our first glimpse of him will be another meeting he has with Laura, like the first dream he had in episode 3
.

Could be used to explain Donna's absence if she is indeed absent.

Just got to the Season 2 episode where
Lynch as Gordon Cole is introduced and I think he's my favorite character yet. I dunno how long the yelling thing can stay funny, but I haven't gotten tired of it yet.

"But since it's television and released in hour-long increments, don't you have to think about the end of each hour?
No, you don't really. You divide it up."

I wonder if he means it like it is, like it sounds. It's gonna be interesting seeing how people expecting a more traditional TV show react to some of its less eventful, potentially inversely-paced hours.

There's probably going to be entire episodes of things like cooper on the floor watching the old guy and the bank guy walking extremely slowly

Holy crap! Today's real megaton is that more than two people can have the same first name.
Just finished the series. Rewatching Season 2 seemed like a slog at times, but i'm glad i stuck to the end. And the Secret History book just arrived so everything seems to be lining up perfectly.

It's interesting because so much of the style of the first two seasons (well when Lynch was involved, at least) emerged from Lynch working around the format, essentially treating each chunk of time between commercial breaks as a series of interconnected short films.

I'm super curious to see what an 18-hour Twin Peaks film looks like, considering we already got a 2 hour one and it was absolutely insane and kind of magical (though partially due to Mark Frost leaving Lynch and Twin Peaks alone together completely unrestrained).

I have absolutely no idea what to expect, which is super exciting.

From the images, I recognise the OG cast members, Naomi Watts and Robert Forster (another Mulholland Dr. actor, i should add).

Who's the old chap in the image above Audrey?

Interesting quote about this:

You recently said you weren't doing movies ever again –
[Interrupts] I didn't say that. That was a misquote. I just said that feature films are not having a great time right now – at least the kind of feature films that I would want to see or make. Theaters want money, so they put in films that are going to generate a big audience. But the art houses are mostly gone. I say the new art house is cable television.

Nice to see that he's not done with movies/TV just yet.

Who's the old chap in the image above Audrey?

Was wondering the same thing. He's not a recurrent character, is he? I can't have this bad of a memory.

Isn't that Robert Forster? Would make sense for the photo to be of all the TP Sheriff Dept people.

Got halfway through season 2 last night. I forgot how many great little moments there are with the law ensemble. Coop + Harry + Hawk + Andy + Albert + Cole = THE BEST.

Every time time Lynch pops up screaming I just die laughing.

Cole: AGENT DALE COOPER!

Cooper: I hope you haven't been waiting too long.

Cole: I DIDN'T JUST GET HERE, I'VE BEEN WAITING THE WHOLE AFTERNOON TO SEE YOU.

Cooper: Gordon, what can I do for you.

Cole: NO MATTER WHATSOEVER. NO APOLOGIES NECESSARY.

Then Harry telling them that everyone in the hall can hear their conversation lmao.

Cole is just a delight. His episode where he returns near the end is hilarious and endearing.

I doubt there was anything Frost could have done to keep Lynch "restrained," there's also no evidence that he'd ever want to and it's not like Robert Engels (Fire Walk With Me's co-writer) was Lynch's hand puppet.
Frost would likely push to make it more of a sequel, but I can't imagine that his presence would turn the film into anything resembling the original TV series.

Who's the old chap in the image above Audrey?
It's actor Don Murray, a new addition.

Was season 2 not written and filmed in its entirety months before broadcast? People often talk about season 2 as if they they ran out of ideas and were writing episodes as they went along. The wikipedia page also mentions that Annie's actress was added to the show as the ratings started to decline.

he's his brother, he's mentioned quite a bit in the secret history so I'd be surprised if it wasn't him

Ah, interesting. That's better then. I'll still miss Michael Ontkean but at least if they aren't recasting Harry, they wouldn't be forcing a replica of his chemistry with Kyle.

Most TV is written and shot as the season goes along. Network TV, anyway.

Here's a clip of Kyle MacLachlan, Kimmy Robertson, Dana Ashbrook, and Jim Belushi appearing on Good Morning America this morning.

At 1:35 they show a production still of Robert Knepper and Jim Belushi's characters, first official glimpse we've had of them.

Jim Belushi tells a great anecdote around then too. I laughed out loud.

Oh, Jim Belushi? I never looked at the cast list, but could this be a nod to "Wild Palms", the show I recommended a few pages back? Probably, great to see him in the new season.

So I'm confused. What's airing this Sunday? Is it just the 2 hour premiere in the title? I keep hearing about 4 episodes being shown but nothing seems to indicate that that's thecase.

If you're watching on tv, parts 1 and 2 are this Sunday and parts 3 and 4 are the following Sunday. If you're streaming, all four episodes will be available this Sunday.

I assume they're making the third and fourth ones available earlier to plan for Memorial Day weekend.

Part 1 & 2 air on Sunday, immediately followed by Parts 3 & 4 going up on on-demand services, which will air live the week after the premiere. Then it switches to a regular one-part-per-week schedule.
