Halo 5: Guardians |OT5| Is HaloGAF irrelevant now?

I don't feel limited by the lack of paddles. I don't claw anymore either.

You may not 'feel' limited- but you objectively are, since there is no control scheme that allows you to make all the neccisary actions w/o taking your finger of the sticks.

Bumper Jumper is best for me, but w/o paddles Im at a disadvantage when thrust-strafing

I have jump, sprint, reload and switch weapon on the face buttons.

Jumping is the only action which I might do whilst needing to aim, however, jumping is generally a pretty bad idea in a firefight as it means for about a second your movement is completely predictable. Also with a large number of jumps requiring clamber, I find that it's very rare that I actually want to jump mid firefight.

A lack of paddles does give a slight disadvantage (assuming you don't claw), but I personally feel like it's very minor. I don't notice any real difference in my gameplay if I claw vs holding the controller normally.

My ideal setup though would be sprint, melee, reload and change weapons on the face buttons as none of those require precise aiming. That said, they'd have to make it so you could aim the ground pound with the left stick for that to work perfectly...

Have you tried an Elite?

No, but I used to claw which effectively gives you the same advantages as paddles.

I'd really like an elite but I can't really justify the cost when the advantage seems so minor.

Nah man, Gandi hopping and jump-thrusting are very useful in fire fights, you'll see Pros do it all the time, for example. It was key during Snipedowns rediculous reversal on Penguin yesterday.

Also many jumps that appear to require clamber can be done with spring jumps- which again are more effective when you don't have to take your finger off the sticks.

The 'slight' disadvantage isn't so slight when .24 seconds is the difference between losing a Pistil battle and winning one.

You also have to aim melees, and more importantly, it takes longer to aim AFTER a melee if you have to take your fingers off the sticks...

You also not being able to YY or sprint store without taking your finger off the sticks is disadvantageous.

I currently have sprint, thrust, change weapon, and reload on face buttons. Thrust is the main culprit (and is probably the only action I would map to a paddle), but the only one i'd say is "minor" is reload.

Been playing a few Warzone games just trying to use weapons I never touch. Went pretty positive using just ARs one game, so that was a thing that happened.

Vetoed recently posted a short video on twitter showing a glitch in halo 5 that makes the gun you are holding shoot faster. Not sure if it works with automatics but it seems to work with the sniper and rifles like the BR.I'm not going to share the link but you can find it on his twitter account.

Might as well share the link here so maybe the 343 people can see it. Hopefully people sent it to them already anyway.

Fallen Xbot (cannot continue gaining levels in this class)
Is this good news or bad? If it was h2, it increases the skill gap and is good. Since its in halo 5 it's lulz 343i, game development is hard. Fix it soon (tm)

I always thought the BXR and BYYB combos made a lot of sense and should have been implemented in all Halos going forward.

Only button combos I like are the backpack reload and double melee in CE because it required a grenade being thrown; risk reward. Other than that, the H2 button combos are lame imo.

I'd like for something like backpack reloading to become a standard feature though. Require the weapon to be in your secondary slot for the duration of the time it takes to reload it normally. Overwatch does this for heroes that can switch weapons, like with Mercy, Torbjorn, and Bastion. It'll automatically reload your weapon if you're switched to another for a while.

Destiny has this for the King's Fall raid weapons, called the Cocoon perk, where the weapon reloads after being on your back for a short while

Coincidentally, the sniper from King's Fall has the Halo sniper rifle shot sound and reload animation and pretty much plays exactly like the Halo sniper in feel.

well, except for the fact it completely ruined the intended role of the BR in the sandbox annnnnnd it's 2005 again

Nahhhhhh lol

I understand, but I wish button combos would make a return. It's just so satisfying and unique in an fps.

I loved the defensive capabilities of taking even the weakest weapon (halo 2 pistol) and kill someone quickly with it against a sword or shotgun. It was a risk/reward thing. Whether it was definitively balanced or not, it was really exciting.

At the very least it'd be nice to have backpack reloading back. Chances are it's being deliberately taken out in development, because I figured out backpack reloading on accident while programming - you actually have to work backwards and stop it from happening, rather than the other way around.

I dunno if it's a good idea for multiplayer balance but I'd definitely like backpack reloading in campaign. It heightened a lot of the encounters in the game by making you feel like a never-ending stream of power and bullets.

Well the Library from CE would be a bit easier on legendary that's for sure. Could be an interesting mechanic for the studio to design around.

Also a mini super bounce returns:

Also also this was a fun finish to a semi-brag WZ FF game:

This crash was not fun tho:

Another edit: HaloGAF thanks for the SC add but you all suck
Actually playing from Aus at night sucks

Become a night owl, play when we're up, bro.

So how exactly do you do it?

In the old games you just hit Reload under relevant conditions, and switch to another weapon. It won't continue the animation, but when the reload animation would have ended it restocks that weapon's active clip despite it being in your "backpack", hence the name.

I hope halo 6 is more fun. Like Halo 5 is a great game but its too competitive if that makes sense. There's not really anywhere to relax and just have fun (outside of customs). Everything has to be a sweaty.

Biggest reason my friends dropped the game, beyond matchmaking Aussies population and bugs etc. They like the weapons, somewhat all the abilities and movement but definitely pointing fingers at maps/modes and content driven at hyper competitive. The core game is brilliant but the catering to casuals outside of WZ in medium sized parties isn't really there e.g. BTB.

Slayer, Skirmish, HCS, and a really any of those modes when looked at in terms of maps and gametypes are very much "same as HCS". It put over 10-15+ regular Halo fans off playing H5. MCC didn't help either. Action Sack was a great addition, hell just had 3 guys rolling on that playlist list night. Felt like old times.

Heavens to betsy i hope 343 can shore up the network issues and bugs for halo 6. it's really a sad state of affairs when you actually have a decent multiplayer game and people are put off from playing it.

To their credit the updates with particular note on focused, balanced & expanded really delivered a more stable game for the aussie region. However for Halo 6 you're correct when speaking in terms of at launch. Each region and segment of the player base needs to be there at launch. The content sustain should be to expand not deliver what was there in older titles at launch. I'm very thankful for the resources put into H5, it's a stellar example of sustain in this industry, honestly. It's when you look at launch compared to current day H5 and the path for H6 launch is clear as day IMO.

What they need to do is bring back one-sided objectives.
I don't like that they didn't make a single dev made btb map, but I kind of understand that they were really pushing warzone. Not having one-sided objectives though is a head scratcher. Those were sooooo much fun.

yep agreed

Yes. I'll gladly trade your CE pistol as accepted for one sided OBJ to always be there :)

Even within WZ PvP some flag/bomb games with 2 short rounds and condensed maps would have been perfect. It gives variance and re-purposing to WZ maps while creating more content to keep players coming back. I wish I could find matches in WZ assault, never find a match solo or party.

No mirror windows up top for instructors to watch training then no lore sale mate :)

This Pit was designed from the original concept art, well before the lore insinuated itself into the map. The 343i team convinced the builder to paint it green and yellow.

This Sanctuary remake does the Pit aesthetics better and it plays well.

Yes, that is one of the sanctuary remakes we were looking at before the playlist was scaled back to H3 only (also looking at TJ NutterB's version). I made the suggestion to simplify the roof to bring perf back. Also, see above.
