after almost 2 years? is MS drunk?

this is something to be huffy puffy about, not people in here flipping out over MS coming out with a MacBook competitor with the Surface Laptop.

I've had my Lumia for nearly five years now and it's been on its last legs for a while. I just want a Surface PHone, WHY WON'T YOU GIVE ME A SURFACE PHONE?!?!

Isnt confirmed, I think a lot of people are interpreting that MS keeping the magentic charging port as them not having the USB-C port. I think(well I hope) MS will have a USB-C port but probably just not allow charging through the USB-C.

I'm fine with keeping magnetic charging, but it absolutely needs thunderbolt 3 / usb 3.1 gen 2 to be a pro device in 2017.

I just bought a used Asus Zenbook Flip.

I think the model itself is around a year old and has USB-C.

That said, I don't really know when I'm ever going to use it. My Galaxy S8+ has USB-C, but its not like I'm connecting my phone to my laptop all the time, if ever. And if I am, I'll likely just use the regular USB-A to USB-C cable that I use to charge the phone.

I think the problem is that while the standard isn't new anymore and is growing steadily, I think its still new enough that manufacturers can get away with not including it in their products without the general population actually caring.

Hopefully it's something better than the completely underwhelming Surface Laptop event. I feel like I'm from the future with my SP4 after seeing that shit

A laptop that has a starting price of $999 is not created for students. A laptop that has a fabric wrist wrest wasn't made for anyone to be honest.

Might as well buy a MacBook sure it only has one port but as least it's USB C oh and you get a OS that hasn't been kneecapped.

At this point in time, I'm willing to bet at least 50% of any of decent sized college's student body are using macbooks of some kind.

MacBooks are more than 1000
iOS is a closed platform so...

Well fuck... i just saw this thread. Hours after i just ordered a surface book.

Don't feel bad lol, I just bought one yesterday... I'll be able to see what's going on with the announcement and have time to return it to BB if need be.

You guys are missing the point, who gives a fuck what they announce, this is the Panos Panay show and I'll be ready and waiting.

I would literally listen to him describe how paint dries, dude knows how to create hype.

Having USB-C as your phone's charging port is great, but what's the big deal about USB-C on your laptop if it's not the charging port? I haven't seen anyone use USB-C to displayport or HDMI cables yet.

time to take my meds

i'm currently located in south korea, and i bought mine in america off amazon. using a family member to ship it to me because lithium battery laws.

so it will be somewhat of a bitch for me to return it if a sb2 comes out.

Oh yeah, that definitely sounds worse than my situation.

I'd definitely be interested in a Surface Phone if
-app support (this is the MOST IMPORTANT thing)
-UI redesign from the tiles
-improved notifications
-app support
-app support
-app support

With iTunes, WhatsApp and Spotify coming to UWP, it seems more and more people are putting their apps on the Windows Store. Google needs to be there day one if the phone rumors are true.
I can't imagine why Google wouldn't want their apps on there.

Allonym

There should be more tampons in gaming
15" Surface Book 2 with:

Quad core CPU
32GB RAM
The latest Nvidia dGPU
PCI SSD
USB-C

would be nice.

would do a lot of questionable things for this lol. The possibility of the Surface Book 2 is the only reason I've held off on getting the SB1.

I can't get hyped for a company that most likely will stuff anything reasonably priced from now on with Windows S...

The lack of Google apps are partly the reason why Windows Phone gained no traction. That's exactly why Google wouldn't want their apps on there.

Windows Phone 7 launched in 2010, Windows 8 in 2012. Both app stores never had and still don't have Google apps, most notably no YouTube app. Think about how ridiculous that is. The Windows app store never had an official YouTube app. What impression do you think this makes to users, when they search for YouTube in the app store and only get "Hyper for YouTube" and such as search results?

Itunes will just be a desktop app in the appx package.

Google shit also runs horribly through Edge mobile half the time. Like maps.google is a fucking nonresponsive shitfight. The one ray of sunshine is that the unofficial YouTube app on the windows store is better than an official one.

It's most likely going to be the same for Spotify. However, I do hope that it's somehow going to improve the touch-capabilities of the Desktop app. It already works relatively well, but it's still a little janky compared to UWP apps.

I noticed that on my mom's phone as well. I'm not sure who's to blame in this case. Perhaps it's a side effect of Edge pretending to be Chrome.

As for 3rd party apps, I haven't found a good one for Windows 10 so far and I've think I tried them all. I'm currently using Hyper for YouTube and it's okay at best. It used to crash a lot during long videos and skipping in long videos still doesn't work well. The interface works, but could look better and cleaner. It also tends to forget my Google log-in every now and then. The last time it failed to load the account page, forcing me to reinstall the app. And while the app supports Miracast, I'd certainly prefer Google Cast support.

Windows 11 built off the win 7 kernal please.

:/ :/ :/ :/

FYI, MS has stated on multiple occasions that Windows 10 is their final OS. All they'll do from here is simply iterate upon it since the framework underneath is built for it. Also Windows 10 is so much better than Windows 7.

Lastly, the 7 kernal is actually framed from the XP/2003 kernal and has security flaws at its core, so 7 is a dead OS in time.

I think I was using MetroTube which is doing well for me. From memory Youtube native apps don't let you play audio with the screen off (without YT red) and such but the unofficial ones do.
