Chris Cornell (Audioslave, Soundgarden) has died

Saw soubdgarden in 2011 and Chris Cornell solo acoustic show a couple years ago. One of my all time favorites that really shaped my music tastes. I was really hoping to hear him make music for years to come. Goddamit...RIP

Can't believe it. Audioslave sparked my interest in music and Chris has remained my favorite musician ever since.

RIP

Man got to see Temple of the Dog at the Pearl Jam 20 reunion. Cornell is the last person I was expecting to die young. Such a talent. Most of my childhood music heros are gone, and many of the artists that inspired them are still kicking.

Wow. I only just saw this news.

I'm devastated. Chris's voice (along with Eddie's) defined my teenage and college years.

Fuck!, rest in peace man, this guy was defining for modern rock music. So young too, my thoughts go out to his friends and family.

Been Listening to Audioslave and soundgarden all morning.

Because I heard it in the wind,
I heard it in the sky,
Thought it was the end,
Thought it was the 4th of july.

This has completely blindsided me. Had a completely shit day at work and now this. I love Soundgarden, loved Audioslave and Chris's solo stuff. He had truly one of the best, most characteristic and most versatile voices in rock.

What!?!?! Noooo!! God fucking dammit.

Thank you Chris.

So much talent. One of my favorite artists of all time. What a shitty fucking thing to wake up to this morning. FUUUUUCK!!!

I have no words. I wonder if this was accidental as he was very active on social media and seemed okay. Damn this hurts. Vedders gonna be crushed :(

I was listening at You Know My Name just this morning on MTV and thinking I wonder what new song he's made lately. Then I come check OT and see this thread.

Fuck.

Loved his stuff.

...and that, kids, was the first time I sucked a dick for crack
Chris Cornell probably made up half of the avatars I've used on GAF over the past 17 years. I keep coming in here randomly and just so sad every time...

I'm listening to Shadow on the Sun...and just ugh. Fuck music for making me love these guys and the grasp they have on my emotions.

I mean come on: "I can tell you why people die alone, I can tell you I'm a shadow on the sun." That's just fuel for my tear ducts.

Fuck this.

I've been in shock all day. Can barely collect thoughts to express really. Soundgarden, along with Pearl Jam and Alice in Chains, have been a huge part of my life. Such a huge loss. He was one of the all time greats.

I just them two weeks ago, and had a new album on the way...

One of the most memorable voices of my late teens and into college. Most of those "grudge" voices are gone now (Cornell, Staley, Weiland, Cobain).

I am absolutely gutted that I had the chance to see Cornell 's acoustic tour last summer and didn't end up going

So shocking, and I really hope it wasn't suicide, as is being suggested here:

What a bummer. Audioslave was the first rock album I bought on my own. Definitely a huge influence on my taste in music. He died so close to me too, I could have seen his last show. : /

Oh wow... RIP

He had such a memorable voice for both Soundgarden and Audioslave. I was also a fan of "You Know My Name" for Casino Royale.

Best voice in rock music though I was slightly more of an Alice In Chains fan.
I will never think of Audioslave when I think of him even though Like a Stone is a great, great song,

A lot of these songs and lyrics will never be the same to me...

There was a man who had a face, that looked a lot like me.
I saw him in the mirror and, I fought him in the street;
Then when he turned away, I shot him in the head.
Then I came to realize, I had killed myself.

God this is so so sad :(

For me I first heard Chris in Audioslave I remember tuning into Scuzz TV (UK metal/rock/alternative music channel) and seeing Cochise and I was intrigued by that intro on guitar to me it sounded like a helicopter

Then I heard it...

Chris's booming vocals and kinda raspy voice hooked me and when the breakdown in Cochise hits and he screams

"AND YOU DONT FEEL A THIIIIIIIIIIIIIING" and he holds that note and Tom's guitar comes crashing in I was floored

Of course I went and listened to Soundgarden etc and loved it however for me Audioslave holds a place in my heart

When I saw the recent Audioslave gig I was so hoping for a reunion album or even tour so I could see them but sadly now I won't be able too

"In your house I long to be
Room by room patiently
I'll wait for you there
Like a stone
I'll wait for you there
Alone"

If they confirm his death is suicide or even if it's not please guys n gals if you fee suicidal (which I have many times) please seek some help even if it's talking to your friends, family or loved ones there's no shame in showing your feelings or that you are emotional however if you feel like you can't then please check https://suicidepreventionlifeline.org or if you're in the U.K. Like me http://www.samaritans.org
