Apple AirPods | OT | Try not to lose them

Im hoping they can add gestures through firmware in the future. I would really like the option for the standardized double tap-skip, triple tap-back, and single tap-play/pause like most BT headphones have.

So I got myself a pair of rowkin bit stereo Bluetooth earbuds and they're trash with my iPhone, but with my laptop and most other things they work pretty well. So if you got an iPhone and are looking at those, heads up there is a good chance that they're going to be straight garbage.

BeatsX $120 on Amazon. Comes with $30 iTunes/App Store/Apple Music credit. Got one for work since I need noise isolation which the AirPods don't have.

I actually might grab some of these today, tired of waiting on Air Pods to become available.

My Airpods come in on Thursday. Can I go to any Apple store and get AppleCare for them? Are they hard to clean at all? I wash inside my ear everyday but wax can build up throughout a day. I would hate to have wax stuck in the Airpods.

Love my AirPods. Don't use them nearly enough but when I do I'm impressed with everything about them. They were kinda pricey but well worth it :)

No AppleCare for the AirPods, just the standard one year warranty. Yes they're easy to clean

I don't think I'd say they are easy to clean because the "cutouts" (sorry, no idea what the parts with the grid/speaker inlay are called lol) are rather tricky to clean perfectly. I give them a wettish cotton stock treatment + micro fiber cloth wipe every once in a while.

Also got this case... for a case for free. Kinda like it, wish I had it before I scratched my charging case as badly as it is now lol. Also helps a bit with grip (and potentially fall damage). idk, I'll just leave the case in there since it has a cutout for the charging spot too. Can't really hurt.

so I sucked it up and pre-ordered these at the beginning of the year. yeah, it really was a 6 week wait...

with that being said, using these has been an absolute joy. sound quality is fairly decent. IMHO a little better than the default Earpods, but not like mind blowing.

But the convenience of these are on a wholly different level. I have never once had to worry about charge with them. I charge the case maybe every few days or so, and mostly it's me at my PC at work thinking "meh I might as well plug in my lightning cable and charge my case" I don't actually have any idea what it's at.

being able to, with my phone in my pocket, put these in, connect to them from my Apple Watch (assuming they were previously connected to my Mac or ipad), and start my music playing without ever taking my phone out is amazing.

pausing just taking it out of my ear (and then resuming) is like icing on a super delicious cake.

outside of audio quality, these are easily the number one most convenient earbuds every released imho. fortunately audio quality is fine enough that it basically puts them over. $160 is steep... but it's basically an early adopter price on the future of wireless audio.

$160 is incredibly cheap for wireless earbuds, actually.

Walked into my local Apple Store to get a case for my wife and saw a single package of these just sitting on the shelf. Impulse bought because the main thing holding me back was the wait time and I had bought the beats x a month ago and was happy with them but not thrilled for gym use, gonna give these a test run for the next week to see if I wanna keep them over the beats but so far so good.

Can't believe they were just sitting on the shelf in my store.

That's incredibly, incredibly rare. Usually they come in such low quantities that they get sold out through online order before one even hits a shelf. Good pickup!

I still want one of these, but they're $400 (roflmao) here in Brazil. Not much better in the grey market either. I'll get a pair when someone I know travels overseas.

Just sold my extra pair for $190. Didn't even make any money on them, accounting for the tax and expedited shipping. Sold them exactly at cost. Took longer than I expected to sell them tbh, had an ad on craigslist for a few days before I got any emails

So I don't think I look weird anymore wearing the AirPods in NYC, now I'm seeing them everywhere

this is probably my favorite Apple product in many years

Got the earskinz and they make the fit perfect.
Earskinz 3? How are they? Do they stay in the case? Is it set and forget or do they have issues working perfectly with AirPods?

They don't fit the case. I'm looking for a small baggie for the case and Earskinz. It just makes the Airpods that much better.

I wonder if it would be possible to replace the cap of the charging case with a 3D printed one that accommodates the earskinz size. I haven't received mine yet and haven't seen a pic of them in the case so idk where the problem lies in particular. But I guess it's impossible to remove the case cap without breaking it, recalling the gist of the iFixit tear down.

E: Eh nah. Lots of tiny magnets (?) in the cap + the connector seems tightly embedded.

Ugh. Fail. I understand it's really difficult to skin them while keeping the case usable since it's a tight fit. But there's no point for me if I have to compromise the portability of the Airpods.

Doubly annoying since their initial message seemed to say they'd get the ES3 working with the Airpods case:

Mine arrived yesterday and I am way more impressed with them than I expected. This things are fantastic.

I'm really curious to see what Apple does for the second version of the AirPods. They're a great product and clearly Apple didn't anticipate this much demand for them - was the original idea to just eventually include them in the box with iPhones? I wonder.

I'm honestly perfectly satisfied with the battery life on these things - the sound quality's fine for something this tiny but could always be improved, of course.

I guess Hey Siri support is the obvious next step once these are sufficiently power-efficient.

Hey Siri support
Some way to do handle volume/skipping that's NOT through Siri
Black color

Boom, they got another $160 from me

And yes, I do believe the goal is eventually to have them packaged in. Maybe not the latest model at that time, but some form of AirPods. When they can get the price down to around $30-$50 they'll go in the box, and then they may have a premium/newer model available for upsell

Yeah, volume adjustment/track skip is a big one too. Won't lie that black would be cute - I'd almost want a metallic finish if they're gonna go down that route, though.

Offline Siri for a lot of basic OS-related stuff (and dictation) wouldn't require any hardware changes to the AirPods, but would make them drastically more useful almost immediately. The same goes for an improved Apple Watch 'Now Playing' interface.

Just ordered these from Best Buy and see they have about a month lead time on them shipping out. I see someone a few posts up got theirs much quicker than that, but is that estimate usually pretty accurate or do they usually ship out before that date?

They'll most likely ship earlier than the time they give you.

I figure this is the best place to ask, but forgive a slightly off topic post. Does anyone else have a pair of the Beats X and have issues with them? When I take them off the charger in the morning, the LED pulses white, won't connect (AirPods work fine, even after weeks of non-use) for a few hours, then randomly work again a few hours later. Is there some super obvious thing I'm missing here? This just started a few days ago and cannot figure out what's wrong. Could it be a hardware issue with the BT connection on my phone?

I have a pair of BeatsX and never experienced that. Always just connected and charged exactly as required.

Edit: I've updated to 10.3.2 on my iPhone 5 and haven't tried them since. did you update and suspect a problem with the update?

I actually think the regular Apple EarPods get a bad rap, primarily because of how poor the early iPhone/iPod models were. The latest generation aren't too bad at all. Considering I prefer earphones that sit on my ear, rather than in them, they surprise me just how decent they sound.
