Yeah, not super interested in it, but people describing it as virtual on esque makes me slightly interested. Problem is that it looks too slow and the movement looks too limited.

There's going to be a global beta thingy anyway so might as well play it to see.

I get the sense they had to make concessions to work with motion controls.

Game looks fun if a bit thin on content for a $60 release. But I'm looking forward to trying the demo.

Through watching justice league/ Jlu as well as the other dcau, I feel like I know a ton of dc characters. But I just find the dcau waaaaaay more appealing than dc comics.

It's soooo hard. It's more hilarious though. I didn't think Cyborg and Blue Beetle were obscure. But I guess so.

Beastcast dudes are geriatrics, though. Cyborg started getting pushed into the mainstream after their time, although he's a minor character in Super Friends with the likes of Apache Chief*. This current Blue Beetle is more recent, within the last decade I want to say. Jaime Blue Beetle caught on because he's vaguely Spider-Man-ish; a hispanic teen who gained superpowers.

Eh, the game doesn't really interest me, but it's certainly not thin on content. It's at least as robust as your average fighting game at launch, and definitely more so than stuff like Street Fighter V. There's actually a surprising amount of multiplayer modes (like that volleyball one or the basketball one) and it's got your standard arcade mode, plus some party modes. I think that's a solid amount of content, even if the actual game isn't for me. I'll check out the testpunch thing so we'll see though

See, I think the game looks great in every aspect except the game play. It looks slow and clunky for a fighter, which sucks because it oozes style.

That's a me thing. I haven't bought a fighting game in a long time, unless you count Smash Bros 4, which I didn't play much.

I don't know. I think back to Virtua Fighter 4's kumite/quest modes, and I need something like that to keep engaged with fighting games.

I still think Battlegrounds would be better with an indicator of where shots are coming from.

The guys shooting at you have too much of an advantage and you're often dead without even knowing what happened. Having a little help would encourage encounters but the attacker would still have the advantage of being in cover/firing first etc.

You mean this huge explanation isn't clear enough?
It isn't

Gunshot Sound

Each gunshot sound you hear in game has propagation delay based on distance between source and the listener
The propagation velocity is 340m/s so if a pistol is shot 340m away from the listener, he will see the muzzle flash first and hear the gunshot after 1 second
If gunshot is fired from indoor or there is no direct or approximate line of sight (obstructed), the reverb effect and LPF are applied to the sound effect
Bullet Crack/Whizz Effect

Bullet crack effect (or bullet bow shockwave) is generated when a supersonic projectile passes in close proximity to the listener. The effect can be heard in a closest point on bullet trajectory line.
Basically, the sound source is always perpendicular to the trajectory line, so if you hear a bullet crack just in your left headphone, you know that the shooter is either directly in front of you, or behind you

Most of our weapons are supersonic. This means that you will hear the crack/whizz before you hear the actual gunshot
In a scenario where you see a shooter 1000m away, using AWM (>900m/s muzzle velocity) the events will occur in such order:

1. You see the muzzle flash
2. After ~1 sec you hear the crack/whizz (assuming no air drag)
3. After ~3 sec you hear the gunshot

Bullets passing close to the player will generate a crack sound, the ones passing further away will only generate whizz effect
We blend between different sound samples based on distance (the maximum distance and attenuation characteristic is also affected by suppressor attachment). The close gunshot sounds louder and more clear than the distant one

In the current public build, all bullets generate a sound crack effect. We've changed this mechanic by adding a velocity check, so bullets travelling slower than speed of sound will not generate the crack effect but just whizz.

Hearing Vinny's giddiness about having Abby around in the Dead Cells Unfinished is great

Yeah I'm the same way, just not really into fighting games. But I think if you are into Arms, then there's gonna be enough content in the game for you. It just comes down to whether or not you like the core gameplay

See, I think the game looks great in every aspect except the game play. It looks slow and clunky for a fighter, which sucks because it oozes style.
And yeah this is where I'm at. Apparently playing it feels faster than just watching, but I love literally everything about the game besides the core gameplay (well I'm honestly not too high on the soundtrack either). The characters in particular have great designs. Minmin has the best design but then there's Twintelle

Listening to this weeks bombcast, and I love the show and all that these guys do, but I really wish they made an attempt to be more accurate with information. This week Brad was saying Farpoint costs $100 with the controller (not true) and that you couldn't turn by moving, could only really go forward.

The game is only $80 with the gun, and you do in fact turn by moving, but it's where the gun is pointing not your head.

Seems silly I know, but I have friends that won't buy or try something based off that kind of information.

I think the Bombcast might have been recorded before the Quicklook, he mentions the right price there. Not that I disagree though, it feels even sillier with the video podcast seeing that they have laptops open most of the time...

What is this ageist nonsense

also Dan is like 32 or something

Maybe you finished the game in a different world line? :p

Twin Automata -
Maho's ending
Promised Rinascimento
- Path to True End (the one I just got btw)

Working on another one before heading down the true ending path.
Heh, you got off easy. I did my first playthrough blind and ended up plunging into Gehenna's Stigma, which is just... well you'll see when you get there.

I've grown to like DC a lot more over the years after being mostly on the Marvel train. Right now I'm feeling DC more than Marvel too.

Yeah but Dan subsists on media from the 80s and early 90s.

Jokes aside, I don't actually know how old they are. Shot in the dark, Alex and Vinny are late 30s? Bakalar and Dan are early 30s?

the thing i like about dc is that usually dc feels optimistic while marvel always feels deeply depressing to me. Even batman stories, which is basically "how fucked can we fuck Gotham", usually turn ultimately on some feeling of hope. I think DC also usually avoids having the general public hating their heroes for the most part, where Marvel's "mutants = racism" thing and overall attitude towards supers always feels ultimately deeply cynical and depressing.

it's not really true if you sit down and analyse it, but it's the vibe i get.

I think Marvel and DC both have their great story lines, but you have to wade through a bunch of bullshit to get to it or know what is worth reading and investing time in. I think most of the current DC hate comes more from dislike from the movie franchises and Marvel having a bigger headstart on opening the universe to the general public.

Heh, you got off easy. I did my first playthrough blind and ended up plunging into Gehenna's Stigma, which is just... well you'll see when you get there.

Not following a guide seems to be at least a little less infuriating in 0 since there aren't multiple triggers spread over hours of gameplay to actually open up all the endings. But...I can guess just how bad it'll probably be since it seems like most of the cast has gotten off kind of light so far. Well, except Okabe. It's like Groundhog's Day except becoming a god of a tiny PA town, you get tortured forever.

The hate Harley gets lately (in the last three years I'd say) is more pointed criticism at one the babydoll aesthetic that a lot of people vehemently dislike (which Harley really hasn't done in the comics for quite awhile) and two the newer fans who've jumped on this band wagon of "rah rah girl power comes from violence just like in suicide squad" which can be tiring.

I do think she's a great comic character, the long running Amanda Conner series is one of DC's best series right now.

yeah what. you already said it's not true but you still feel that way? That's kinda strange.

You wanna talk about deeply conservative, cynical superhero movies? Nolan's Batman trilogy.

I think Vinny is near 40 (maybe 39?), I recall them saying Jeff was 35 recently, not sure about Alex.

This Subaru chatroom sponsorship thing throws me every time it comes up on the Beastcast lol. You can almost see them smirking at each other as they talk it up.

It's not an all encompassing theme, but there's the old adage of: Marvel is about people trying to be gods, DC is about gods trying to be people.

Some of the old crossover comics are funny because you have Marvel heroes jump into the DC universe and see statues of Superman and The Flash museum and assume they're tyrants.

i don't watch dc movies

i mean i don't watch marvel movies either really but i really do not like dc movies.

i also don't think it's that strange to know something at one level but still 'feel' differently at another. it's pretty human imho

Don't be sad friend, both games are great!

Dead Cells is probably my favourite 2D roguelite though. Once you start unlocking weapons it does a really good job with build variety.

The speed and fluidity looks really sick and something a skill you can probably improve on continually throughout your playthroughs. I think I'll wait till it's out of early access just to give me some time to finish Hollow Knight though.

Congrats, thats exciting! Now you have time for all the other games... except most of the other good ones are super long haha. I should get the last 3 shrines this weekend...

I've got Nier from the library that I've been itching to move on to but it's in my basement and of course I'm now on bed rest because of a back injury. I'd be playing the fucking shit outta some Nier if it was on the Switch right now.

Dans aged like 20 years by going to east

I still need to write in a correction about his saying Entenmann's is only an east coast thing because he never saw it until he got to the east coast. They all went, "oh, okay." Like, why would you accept that food mutant's word as law, when it concerns anything that isn't in a fast food place?
