Guess they are doing exaxtly what Rockstar intended: softening the blow from the games delay and generating hype.

I dont expect the final product to look this good. If microsoft plays its cards right, Ill be in the market for a scorpio so I would love to be wrong.

I feel that at this point after so many smash hits they really don't need that anymore. Look at Bethesda with Fallout 4. Announce trailer in May, full reveal at E3 and release that same year in November. Fantastic. Rockstar could have done the exact same thing but nope. Shame.

Take Witcher 3, that doesn't look anything like the promotion material, but still was praised by everyone for its graphic.

People forget. Advertising material for game is now advertising material for, like, food. It doesn't look anything like what you can actually buy, but the only purpose it has it to make you DESIRE it.

See for example the latest gameplay trailer for the Middle Earth game, that looks like nothing particularly good, and so "honest", but because it doesn't look that great it gets piled on by everyone complaining about the graphic.

You need that hype, and to build that hype you have to play on the dishonesty of showing something that isn't real.

people do forget except for the fact that the witcher 3 is still brought up regularly as one of the most egregious examples of a downgrade in recent memory. something can be both graphically impressive and a downgrade at the same time
