Overwatch GOTY edition & Anniversary event confirmed

The current theory is that it's gonna be a two week event, but the items of this event are gonna be permanent, and the boxes will at least assure you one of them

I am ashamed at the number of hours I've put into Overwatch. And this is after a late start. But it's been worth every penny.

Looks like the price is $39.99. Leaked ads (such as Best Buy) are listing Overwatch in their weekly for $39.99 and sites like Amazon have already updated to that price point as well. However there's been no change in price to the base (non-Origins Edition) PC version which was always $39.99, least not yet. It'll be odd if PS4 and XB1 gets a $20 permanent price-drop but the base PC version doesn't. I'm guessing they'll just merge the Origins Edition into the base version and not change the price.

I think they're just clearing out last year's physical release.

What's confusing is Best Buy has the GOTY edition up now. Proper title and even the boxart. But it's just a PS4 digital code right now and it's... $60. Hopefully that's a place holder, afterall why would they re-release the game with the same content and price that it has been on the system?

overwatch "events" are such a joke. a temporary gimmicky new playmode and then some new cosmetics which are primarily there to entice the micro-transactions spenders. for the amount of money they must make on loot boxes, the content drip since release has been terrible.

The least of all the evils.

I think their business model is a great compromise.

That free content drip that's provided free characters, free maps, free modes, free skins and free events to a game already packed with content?

You really can't please everyone I guess.

Have you even played the game? We have gotten 3 new heroes, several new game modes, the server browser, three new maps, and a bunch of cosmestic stuff for absolutely free in a span of only a year. That is not a drip in anyway shape or form. Furthermore, the events have been a lot of fun with only a few misses. The game does not make you buy lootboxes, everything in the game can be gotten for free (with the exception of some pre-order and Blizzcon content) just by playing. They even listened to the fans and made it so you can buy event items with gold instead of only being able to get them in lootboxes.

I want every post to be tagged with the posters age so I know if they're young and naive or just clueless.

Well you are not wrong.
Events are what gives them the most money. I can only imagine how much are some players spending on loot boxes during the events. That's why they are focusing on them. It's been 1 years since release and we got 5 events already (6 with Anniversary). It's pretty clear that it brings them A LOT of money.

About content drop... well i can agree with this too. Maybe not completely but game desperately needs new high quality mode in QP/Competitive and more maps.

That's a terrible amount of content for a full year.. and I love Overwatch.

The normal game is now 30 euros and I am on the fence. At the same time I really want to fully try it out in the free weekend.

I enjoy Paladins a lot and you'd think that would mean I definitely will dig Overwatch as well or perhaps even more but I think I'll wait. How much will this edition cost?

But if I see what the content is I'll probably be better off paying the 30 bucks.

Still though, compare that to something like HotS that gets a new character like, every month or something? And seems to have minimal event bound stuff (mounts and profile pictures from what I've seen). Not sure how often they roll out new maps though all I know is Hanamura was added recently.

Obviously, different types of games but HotS is pure F2P and has a steady stream of new stuff being added (including the recent 2.0 revamp) while OW is a full priced game that mostly seems to focus on the limited time events designed to get people to spend on boxes to increase the chance they get the thing they like.

Not saying the additions to OW aren't good. Ana is one of my favourite characters and Eichenwald is great now they've made it so you don't just have the single choke point on the first point. Just saying that if they wanted, I'm sure they could have done more. Also I know the model is different, OW gets you all the characters while HotS has you buy them with real money or in game money (or as a drop in a box now) so HotS has more incentive to make new characters because it gets people buying boxes and currency (much like the timed exclusive stuff in OW).

Which platform are you buying on? If you're buying on console the GOTY edition contains the same content that the game always had, so you're not missing out on anything if you buy the Origins Edition over the GOTY Edition. On PC it's a little different as it has both a base edition and the Origins Edition. So if you're planning on getting it on PC you might want to wait.

I understand what you're saying. But I can't call the amount of content we've gotten so far a "drip."

Xbox One man :)

Good to know that I can just go for the Origins edition. Thing is I rather have my games digital so I'll probably wait to see if MS will have a sale Friday or in the weekend. Let's see how much % off it will be. Usually with these free weekends they do have a sale on it, right? Just remains to be seen how much off. Plus I really want to give it a good proper try first, just because I had fun with Paladins doesn't automatically mean Overwatch is my thing.

I don't think the game content is at an exact "drip" per se but I will say I think content that actually pertains to the main game is slow to arrive. Only three new characters and two new maps (three if you count Ecopoint I guess + the CTF remixes) is pretty weak for how popular the game is and how much money they probably bring in from MTs.

Still, the skins and the events do count and help fill the game out. I just hope now that Blizzard has basically a blueprint for a whole "year" of events that they just make a few tweaks to them along with the new skins for the whales so they can focus on getting out new maps and characters faster. I'd love to see either a map or hero every other month.

Ehh please Blizzard dont listen to these guys. Do your own thing like always. You see what happens if you keep pumping out heroes biweekly (LoL). You should be glad that Blizzard takes their time. They also test very very many things. Did you know that Bastions ultimate was a landmine that killed everyone and wasnt be able to get target? That widowmaker and soldier were once one hero? etc etc

Stop demanding so much content. Most of you arent even able to play more than two characters good. Also the Overwatch team was small at the begining and they just hired more staff. It takes time to get into the groove.

You become one of the most popular and most profitable games of all time that people have sunk thousands of hours into?

Also the fact that they made HOTS and its doing so badly is just hillarious.

Game needed so much more in its first year.

More tanks, more supports. Tired of seeing the same heroes again and again.

And maps.

They need to revamp the whole HOTS matchmaking though. Its hilarious when the matchmaking is broken af.

You are playing e.g. in a team with level 500s against a team where the highest hero might be level 20.
Or you are playing against level 400s when you have level 2 in your team and you are the highest level with 60.

Levels only indicate play time though. A solid level 50 with previous MOBA experience could be far more skilled than a level 400.

Oh did I get you? But it's true, see all the people that have one god damn main and cant play anything else in ranked. Overwatch requires more in ranked.

Maybe I should edit it to "most of the community". If you play rank you should at least be able to play one hero in every category. Otherwise you get countered immediately. *smug*

I have a lot of mains in OW, and I can play across any category.

This game needed more content in its first year. LOL does almost everything better. Including skins. I cannot believe how a company that sold 25 million copies can't change the voicelines in legendary skins. Or tweak the animations.

Sure. But my experience by just casual playing HOTS is that the matchmaking is totally bad and it seems that Level 500 can play far better than a level 5.
I mean from what I can see is that those level 5-10 dont even get that a map has objectives and cant even play that hero or are just trolling.
That why I wont really play much, because the matchmaking doesnt seem balanced at all.

i don't even play ow anymore, i just think it's hilarious when an anime avatar turns his nose up at working adults who don't want to drop 10 hours a week to 'get good' at video games lol

Huh?

Biweekly-

adjective & adverb

1.) appearing or taking place every two weeks or twice a week.

Do people who can't even drop 10 hours a week really need more content in OW?

Ha you get a PM mate :) let us see

Prejudice seem to be your thing.

Edit: why did I even my waste my time on a troll though. Also working adult is 40 hours in my case. 10 hours a week is a bit too much but people play way more. Such bullshit from a guy with a comic avatar. lolol

Edit 2: even plays anime games himself, wtf

There was a time LoL champions released every two week, to compete with hon (before dota 2). He's referring to those times.

For me, the only reason the amount of post release content seems a bit low is primarily due to the fact that other than the two Reinhardt skins that came with Eichenwalde, and the laugh and sit emotes, all the other new lootbox items have only been available during events.

Hmmm odd, seems my post wasn't submitted. I'll ask again.

Now with this game of the year edition, does this mean a permanent price drop for Origins Edition?
