They should have done something similar to SFA3 Max on the PSP. A nice port with all the content. Or as others have stated, a compilation of games. So many options they could've gone with.

I wish one of the reviews would mention the 8bitdo controllers - they all talk about the official controllers, but they've had a day to try out the game with 8bitdo, let us know if it's worth buying one for SF2.

I find it so strange this is such a barebones port of SF2 when somehow the 3DS was able to run SF4 and yet that isn't on Switch?

I feel like USF4 on Switch would be a better offering than SF5 on PS4. It's so frustrating.

To be honest, I think USF4 would probably sell less, because they would charge 60. Also most sf4 players already have their friends online or moved to SF5.

Street fighter II has a special bond with lapsed gamers and old Nintendo fans. People remeber it for the arcade and local multiplayer in a time where there was no online.

Imagine watching 2 people playing in a cafeteria, hearing the old Hadouken scream. It's a jolt of nostalgia like no other.

Capcom is twisting our arms at the limit with that price, but otherwise I think it was a very smart move.

It'll probably sell really well for what it is, and the dearth of Switch retail software + general good buzz and sales.

Shame on Capcom for putting this out at $40, and shame on Nintendo for sticking to Capcom's pricing policy in regions where Big N is the actual publisher.
 
Also very subjective.
Kind of like when reviewers don't hold indie games to the same standards as a AAA release. Value can go both ways.
If you go "this game is an 8 or 7/10" then that's showing that you recommend a title, but it's hard to recommend a poor value to most people.
 
Nintendo is having an event at Momocon on Friday, where they're bringing a bunch of games for people to try out, including this and Arms. It's amusing that their notes for the event specifically call out USF2, as if that's the game that's going to be the major draw at a place that's already holding god knows how many fighting game tournaments.

Arms is definitely a different story, as I expect that will be packed for the entire time that they're doing the event.

I foresee ST players trying it, finding out Violent Ken has a game breaking mechanic, and then abandoning it afterwards. The fact that there has been zero communication about changes from ST into this game is baffling. They (Capcom) know that ST has the most diehard fanbase of any of their fighters, but has never let them have a straight port.
 
I would argue that even a release of original SF2 with online play brings more value than what you generally get these years. Sure as hell more value than something like that 1886 game.

At least, not in North America (DC "for Matching Service" version comes to mind). And the SF Collection versions (on Saturn in particular) at least attempted to be faithful to the arcade version.
 
Yeah, not going to support this. Low effort cash in.

That's how this feels to me. A collection of the SFII releases, with good faith attempts to keep the mechanics of each true to the arcade (look, control, etc) would have enticed me, but I think I'll go ahead and pass on this.

Put out SFIII though, and I'm in there like swim wear.

"For Matching Service" is still the best way to play ST at home. Believe me, my copy gets plenty of use when I'm not using my Supergun and CPS-2 version (which is in storage right now.)

Disappointing to see this get reviewed low. But these reviews are pretty meaningless to me. At this point, I know what Street Fighter II is. This game dominated my teenage video gaming years and I know I can't wait to get back into it.
 
It's not a completely barebones port. While I'm an Alpha guy or a hyper fighting edition guy, if you like Super Turbo, it's not a bad package. You not only get the HD remix, you get the original version of super turbo, too.

You get both arcade mode, local multiplayer, and online multiplayer, too.

The Way of the Hado is an interesting gimmick that is a distraction for 5 min, but probably fun for casuals looking for a party game with motion controls. I'm sure that's why it was included, and is surprisingly more than just throwing fireballs. It's totally goofy, but, again: party social experience.

The bigger surprise was seeing that Way of The Hado looks like a customized SFIV engine. It immediately started me wondering about an Ultra SFIV on the switch and the very real possibly that it could be done.

Also, the star of this package is the art collection. There's an art of street fighter option in the menu that takes you to an insanely comprehensive art gallery that comprises art from most of the Japanese art books (both rare and popular) spanning from SF2 all the way to SF4...including Alpha. Some of that art is outstanding. Over the years, I hadnt seen all of it, and it was really special seeing it all in one place.

Is the game worth 40? I'm really not a super turbo guy, but core street fighter is still strong. There's something appealing about multiplayer street fighter - any street fighter- on the go.

Do I wish this was Alpha or SFIV? Absolutely. However, it would be dismissive to just say that Capcom released a lazy port. The package is feature rich and definitely worth more than a typical direct port for 15-20 bucks.

Just depends on how much you enjoy the core game. As a port, it looks very good. Especially after I boot up my Garou or Samurai Showdown IV on switch.

You need to stop saying this. This game is not Super Turbo and is obviously lacking features from Super Turbo.
 
The worst thing here is that it's not even got the updates that HD Remix had..... So perplexing.
Why is that perplexing? It got different updates, and fixed some of the problems HD Remix had. It's not a port of HD Remix, but a new update. All the reviews are pretty happy with the gameplay.

In terms of balance tuning, this is neither Super Turbo nor HDR.

after paying 50 bucks for streetfighter 5 day 1 i rather burn my cash instead of wasting money on capcom
 
Jwong confirmed that stored moves are gone. Not just Ochio, but supers as well.
Note that Justin Wong's comments were from trying an early version of the game back in January. The game has had changes since then, such as the game speed, so his comments aren't necessarily how the game ended up. It didn't go gold until April 5.

An overpriced package that offers little new content, Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers isn't a marvelous return for this venerable series. Being mobile is great, and the game looks good, but everything else about this release is skippable for all but the most die hard SF fans.

LOL, wow Capcom is shameless. This is a downloadable title from 2008 packaged with a few new stuff for 40 dollars.

Injustice 2 is still the fighting game to beat for 2017. If this is what to expect from Capcom, then MVCI is fucked.
 
With the added content, I do think 30$ would be ok to be honest.. but slapping another 33% on to that price is too much.

Too bad.
