RiME Review Thread

IMPRESSIONS
I played the game on my 4k TV (KS8000) on a PS4 Pro. There are 5 worlds and I'm almost done with the 3rd which has taken my roughly 4 hours.

- It's a gorgeous game, and yes the first 2 minutes of the game I couldn't stop thinking about the Ico comparisons, however it does enough to form it's own identity--and it's a good one.

- The score is really goddamn good.

- This is a dreamy, sort of no-combat, sit-on-your-couch-and-explore-experience. Just love it!

- Though there's a overarching design to it all, each world has it's own flow, narrative little special something. :)

- It's mostly been puzzle-soft. As in, the environmental puzzles have never been too challenging where I need to walk away, but a few have stumped me for 5-10 minutes.

- On the Ps4 Pro it appears to run at about 30-40FPS in 4K. Got confirmation from PR that there's Pro support (Some resolution enhancements and increased framerate).

- The day/night cycle is too fast, and I found it a touch bothersome.

He's a pretty swell guy in my books anyway.
Wow, people weren't kidding when they said it was like a Team ICO game. It's even reviewing like one.

Holy Moly those are some high scores, it makes you wonder if the leaked info about why Sony ended their partnership was legit.

I heard that Switch codes were coming later than the rest. Do we have any Switch-specific impressions or conclusions in regard to performance?

Come on man, it's not 2012 anymore, this "debate" is dead and buried. Rime is a game.

It's not me that reviewed the game with this kind of wide score range, you know?
to me it is a non-sense debate, but sometimes the mixed reactions are generated exactly by that kind of reasoning.

I'm surprised Sony let this game get away as it's exclusive...

Rime is not going to sell PS4 Pros. They're moving away from the indie publishing business for the most part and it's still releasing on their system.

Little incentive for them to keep it other than to please insecure fanboys.

What benefit would you imagine for them having it as an exclusive?

This is a good point. I'm not sure Sony would get much out of it. They already have The Last Guardian, and I don't think Rime is going to really move the dial on someone getting a PS4. Sony doesn't have to pay for it, it still comes to the PS4, and the devs get to sell a niche game to a much wider audience. I think this may be a rare case where it probably benefited everyone that the deal fell apart.

How long is it?

this is what I need to know. It's pretty much my #1 concern with games these days. Well thats not exactly true, I dont buy nything just because its long, but lets say if a game is good, it needs to also be long for me to buy it day 1. Money is too tight to be buying 4 hour games unfortunately.

Lol at the universally bloated scores from Spanish sites.

~7,5 seems the consensus ignoring those, still better than the interactive wallpaper Journey and the AI Fighting Simulator TLG, I'm ok with it.

PC gamers review sums up my feelings from all the footage I've seen. Its a hit or miss type of game, depending on each persons feelings/creativity/taste/etc. I'll wait for a sale as I tend to dislike these type of games.

Sounds like my kind of game, beautiful, playful and full of wonder. Scores are a bit mixed but the high reviews sound more line with my tastes. I'm down.

Gamespot 6?

Same score they gave Tropical Freeze. I'm in.

I think you just derailed the thread. That being said a 6 for Tropical Freeze seems crazy. One of the best 2D platformers I've ever played.

To get back on topic: I'm definitely going to play Rime at some point. I usually enjoy games like this. That first reveal looked stunning and I want to know how it holds up after such an eventful journey from then to now.

So edgy.

apart from the "more expensive on Switch" i know jack shit about this game ... anyone willing to give me a quick and dirty "it's like X mixed with Y" description so i know if i should be hyped about this?

Of course i'm gonna read reviews, but often, it really helps me if i at least know where to "put" the game to make sense of what i'm reading.
