Why? Is it the combat? The grind for materials?

In the past when I played them on most Nintendo handhelds the controls have been terrible and then when I got to certain monster fights I would attack them forever and feel like I'm never doing enough damage to kill some of them and would just get sick of the whole run back and fight again only to die again. Maybe I'm doing something wrong but I just never got the gist of the game.

Hilarious. Like Switch fans don't pop up in every thread possible going "Switch port? Switch port?" Foh.

True. Both are annoying and should stop.

Morrigan speaking that truth. Don't try and drive by with this horseshit like either scenario is acceptable, especially since I'm pretty sure port begging is against forum rules (that admittedly aren't super heavily enforced).

Back on topic, my Switch is fucking ready. Actually, going to buy a second one so my brother and I can co-op.

The West is definitely getting both the 3DS and Switch version. Capcom isn't localising MH stories just to then give the middle finger to the 3DS user base.
I expect cross-play and cross-save, just like with 3U, and some basic graphical upgrades. Hopefully, without input lag and frame rate issues this time.

Capcom should give those who bought the game from the JP eShop a steep discount (50%?). It would help them generate some goodwill after saying there won't be a G version and keeping quiet about the Switch version. Sales of XX show they can't nickel and dime their fans forever.

Capcom publishes MH in Europe, too.

Is it? I can't find it on NA's site but the European pages list Capcom as the publisher.

You should be looking at the JP release dates. 3U for Wii U came out 1 year after the original 3DS release. They did spend more time on it than on P3rd HD which was basically just a PSP game running in an emulator but they also introduced control and frame rate problems. I just hope that was due to them rushing to make it in time for Wii U's launch and not a sign of how little they care.

I expect the same control scheme as on 3DS, minus the 2nd screen stuff, of course. I do hope they will let us put item shortcuts at the edges of the screen.

More varied gameplay? Each weapon is its own thing. Each monster is its own new challenge.
The sense of progression is when you realise you can finally kick a monster's ass and are no longer getting flung across the area. Feels pretty good.

Says by Nintendo here which means published and distributed by usually or at least distributed by.

A bit of a shame costumes are so hard to get. Would love to get this early on in the game and keep using it
Tried getting the other Zelda one in 4 but I quit before managing it.
I know they're different, but it's a bit of a bummer MH doesn't feel as good as BoTW. Played a bit tonight and it's kind of hard

Hmm...I'll definitely get it because of the new Generations content that I never got because I didn't get XX on the 3DS, like the new monsters and subspecies and new variants and G-Rank. But do the monsters still die as fast as they did in Generations? That would be a huge bummer.

Anyone? I'd like to know if the monsters in XX still die as fast as they do in X.

I figured it would happen eventually, but fuck yeah!

I haven't been able to enjoy MH since the Wii U port. I love the 3DS but my terrible vision can't handle the tiny screen for a game like MH.

? Why are the costumes so hard to get?

I can totally relate to that.
I lived MH3U in the Wii U, playing it on the big screen was amazing.
I was pretty sad when there was no Wii U version of 4U.
I always got hand cramps when playing MonHun games on the 3DS, but I pulled through.

Now that XX is coming to Switch hand cramps are finally no more!

Because most of the time they're locked behind some really hard Arena quests. And Arena quests are the fucking worst.

The hits keep coming. Goddamn! I wonder if there are any plans to increase production of Switches? The way things are going, this thing will be supply-constrained till Spring 2018.

hopefully this means that it will come to the west now that it is on switch.

I'm also hopeful to see quality textures on it.

The 3DS is just an unergonomically designed handheld. It's so damn bad at being comfortable. I had to shell out $40 for a decent grip so my hands wouldn't cramp during MH and even then, the comfort level was some of the lowest in gaming.

Thank God for the Switch whose baseline is not only significantly higher in comfort but also just using a plain controller to alleviate all those issues.

Let's hope this time it's a decent port unlike MH3U on Wii U with the horrendous input delay and variable framerate.

No, not really. I'd still give a shot and see if the gameplay clicks but Capcom has only made the MH series more and more overstuffed and not as welcoming to newcomers as it could be.

Generations? Generations is a great starting point, its heavily streamlined and the dodge mechanics with arts greatly helps make the game much easier to handle.

I suspect they'll release it on both 3DS and Switch simultaneously in the west, just like with MH3U.

Generations was great, 200 hours+ of jumping around as a lancer, aerial dragoon style for me. I hope I can transfer my old 3DS file straight to the Switch for XX without needing to buy XX on 3DS as a go-between though.

Monster hunter Open world PS4 next gen baby no more loading times etc.

No to the open world. As an MH vet with numerous hours over the years I like the way the map is. The set up is multiple "arenas" that are linked together. Each "arena" differs from each other which you have to adapt to the surroundings. Some sections are very small with very little room for error and some are big that give you a little more breathing room. There are areas that have ledges, water, temperature changes etc. that gives advantages/disadvantages to the monster or the player. Monsters traverse some sections of the map not available to the player. Making those parts available via open world would impact the the "arena" aspect of the game.

Would this theoretically be a good first Monster Hunter (assuming it comes out in the States?)
MH4 is still the best starting point as the campaign explains all to newcomers, whereas Generations is more of a greatest hits that offers up a huge, potentially overwhelming amount of stuff to do immediately.

However, it's still a great MH game, if it clicks with you there's hundreds of hours of play. The Hunter styles/arts also make it by far the easiest of the games with greatly increased manouverability in some styles, so it's quite beginner-friendly in the mechanical sense compared to MH4 being more beginner-friendly in gradually introducing the general gameplay.

The trick is to experiment with the weapons until you find one that suits you, the difference in the way some of them play is like almost completely different action games sometimes.

Having personally tried to introduce several folks to the series via Generations, that's not been my experience. Capcom has done a very poor job of taking the core experience and presenting it to newcomers. It comes across as unfriendly in just the sheer amount of how much there still is and how quickly it's all presented, the way the game still handles downtime between hunts and the lack of info being presented in the game in a meaningful or good way.

If you stick with it and it clicks, it's MH, it's great. But the people I introduced it to dropped it because they had a heavy reliance on me explaining to them more of the nuanced concepts (and sometimes even general stuff) and they just lost interest as a result.

Haters gon hate. Made the hunts way more dynamic and fun to engage in. Nothing tops the first true Lagi fight. The land only version sucks ass.

Also, generations is a horrible starting point. Shit is just clunky as fuck, way too many mechanics, no good tutorial. The only upside to generations for a newcomer is it's really fucking easy compared to older games.

Well there it is.

I agree the series could still be doing a better job of early game explaining to players how to play and enjoy it. MH3 and 4 took some steps forward but then that tutorial aspect sort of stagnated. They should just rethink that aspect completely.

But that's a job for MH5. And how Capcom are saying loudly and clearly, get ready for MH5 on the Switch.

100% agreed. Many of the critics saying that MonHun needs to modernize and then point to things like this really don't understand the ebb and flow of the game. There are aspects of the game that could do with change (tutorials!), but the interlinked arena style map is definitely not one of them.
