Thanks, guys. Man, that all sounds GREAT. Almost unbelievable even, haha.

I'm excited to start it when it goes to Netflix! Especially because I've been completely in the dark with CW shows since they went off of Hulu, so this will be so new to me. I haven't been following them at all this year. I don't even know who the villain is! It's kind of an exciting feeling.

Oh, you're in for one hell of a ride. It's on Netflix in a week!

Just watched the season finale. It was pretty damn good, although I am getting a bit tired of The CW's insistence on the unrequited or lost love trope in almost all of their shows.

Why didn't they just give
Mon-El some kind of temporary breathing aparatus until they could have found a better, more permanent solution?
Talk about throwing the baby out with the bathwater.

Don't need to spoiler tag stuff that's happened.

It seems to be like Kryptonians, it's not a breathing thing, it's merely being in the presence of lead hurts them.

"Wow Kara sure beat me even though she was holding back and I was going ham !"

"I definitely wasn't weakened whatsoever and I was at full strength"

"Kara beat me so she's the champion of Earth !"

"Ooooh look at me I can't save a city ! But at least I'm able to beat a random punk ! <3"

"You're stronger than I'll ever be Kara"

Can they try to be any worse at this point ?

Have Supergirl be faster, smarter, less flawed as a human being would be a great idea, hammering the fact that Superman is basically worthless and pathetic in every way possible compared to her is about the worst thing you can do.

Kara literally outbrawling Superman for no reason while she's holding back on top of it all was just the last straw for me.

He sucks so hard in this universe. :/

I love both characters, and there has been maaaany stories where both can shine at the same time through different attributes, and it's really not what they're doing.

If you're gonna do this to Superman, how about you don't fucking have Superman at all ? Easy win win situation.

Blergh.

Sorry for the nerd Superman fan rant.

I think in the comics Supergirl is actually stronger than Superman since her ship went around the sun so she absorbed a whole lotta energy or something.

Legion and Agents of Shield?

Yup.

It was fine for me simply because this is her show, but admittedly it was pretty hilarious how self-deprecating Superman got as he praised her skills. I guess they really wanted to avoid a situation where people would wonder why Superman didn't just help out.

There was this poster on TV Tropes losing their mind at the audacity. Had to give up reading, eyes filled with tears of laughter, at why someone would care that much.

As for the finale, I dug it. But a lot of that is because Supergirl was handled so awfully in the comics for so long that seeing a version written this competently and this heroic just makes me smile. She may not have the best show, but damn is she a great version of the character.

But if you have to do that then seriously Supergirl doesn't deserve her own show.

It would be similar with Arrow however Arrow does a lot of its own stuff and isn't constantly dumping of Batman(the legitimate character they constantly steal from) to make him cooler
Show needs all the viewers it can get, turning Superman fans away seems like a dumb idea when that base is infinitely bigger.

... Cass Cain Batgirl show she can kick Batman's ass all day though!

They aren't Cisco. They can't invent magic machines. It also looked like they would need to put him in a bubble or something because it is not just breathing.

Serious Sam is a wicked gahbidge series for chowdaheads.
It's funny that as soon as you make it a known earth material it becomes a problem. No one would be wondering what the effect of seeding the atmosphere with kryptonite on humans would be.

Anyway, they handwaved it by saying it's an amount safe for humans, but ultimately deadly for Daxamites. The CDC's website says:

OSHA has set required standards for the amount of lead allowed in workroom air at 50 µg/m3 averaged over an 8-hour workday.

EPA has set a standard for lead in the ambient air of 0.15 µg/m3 averaged over a calendar quarter.

I imagine airborne ingestion would be even more effective, so, if you can keep the exposure beneath that, humans should be fine.

It'll mean that babies will be practically putting in a shift at the steel mill, but hey, better than being a slave.

Again, Jimmy sprayed them with flat out lead dust, and they were fine, so the concentration of lead in this dispersion should at least exceed that and would definitely pose health risks.

That just means the concentration of lead in the spray Jimmy used was very weak and had a poor distribution system. The Daxamites were wearing armor, which should offer nominal protection, and they were dispatched by single punches and glancing blows.

First of all, " in the comics " doesn't mean much, as many stories are retconned or the situations temporary.

But even then, it's not about Kara being stronger than Superman, I'm not against that by default.

It's about Superman being a worse version of Kara in every way possible.

There are two problems here.

1) Supergirl was in awe of her cousin all this time and somehow is now leagues above him for no reason. Even she was surprised it was that easy to beat him.
She was holding back and he was fighting all out to save earth. Sure.

2) Usually in stories where Kara is stronger, Superman is the voice of reason, using his experience to guide her, and still being a worthy hero with incredible stamina that doesn't give up. I'm sure there are some comics where maybe he's worse all the way but they obviously didn't stay around for long. Now they usually have complementary attributes, where both can shine.

Here he is an idiot who tries to be patronizing even though he sucks and Kara is faster, stronger, smarter, and more grounded than he will "ever be".

The fact that the writers had to spell out 10 times this fact shows how poor this situation was conceived.

They didn't try to have Superman be Superman and Kara being above that in specific ways, they shit on Superman to make Kara look brighter.

In no dimension is it fine to have Superman's legacy and strength as a hero trivialized like they did, especially not when it's not a story about him where he won't get any growth from it.

This isn't a "Kara is better" issue, it's how they had to throw Superman under a bus for the sake of making Kara look more impressive.
It's lazy writing.

I can imagine Jimmy and Winn sitting around, grinding up pencils, just to have enough dust for that one attack.

There have been plenty of shows and comics where Superman is flawed. He was pretty much just a punching bag getting his ass kicked all the time in the Justice League animated. Assuming that Superman is always supposed to be the best ever is just not the case.

I don't think this portrayal in Supergirl was a big stretch. Sure it's her show and they want to make her look good, but it's not bad writing to use Superman like that.

The problem is when it is a far less popular and derivative character trying to steal and degrade the original.
Justice League, etc are fine because Superman is still the star and is used to make the show more interesting overall, not prop up a single JLU tier character.
If JLU did more with Supergirl and made her far better than Superman that also works because Superman is a main character and can change, grow, etc.

Its like if they had a Batgirl(Barbara Gordon) tv show and had her constantly a better fighter, smarter and having more gadgets than Batman.
shit wouldn't fly.
There are always elements others can be better at Barbara=Better with computers than Batman, Cass Cain a better fighter than Batman but you don't just completely dump on him to prop either up.

It doesn't even help really.

This is a fair point, I recall her looking up to him last season as that experienced hero figure of sorts, and now of a sudden she's just better cuz why not lol

Ahahahaha. They can't kill her off. You'll piss off a huge segment of the audience if they break up. They even made her a series regular so something like this wouldn't happen lol. I see why Floriana wanted out, her character was entirely based around the relationship and some generic cop beats. Also Casey is in LA and she probably wanted to be closer to him.

Just have them get married and keep Maggie mostly off screen.

I think the only way out of it is if they get Alex to a place where she calls it off. It has to be initiated from her side and she'll need to be visibly back on the horse shortly after, too.

If they made Kara & Lena happen then the fandom would forgive them for breaking up "Sanvers." Otherwise, it's really a lose/lose situation. Less Maggie means less Sanvers and people love them some Sanvers.

Kate Kane shows up turns out she is Maggie's former fiance, Montoya(Maggie's former partner) is also in town on "official business".
Strangely Batwoman and Question show up in National City around the same time...
Maggie uncovers Batwoman's identity and who she is working with and is legit shook afterwards.

I just love the idea of Montoya as Question.

Eh, I honestly feel Batwoman could happen(or will eventually) while i'd easily agree if it was Batgirl regardless of the movie.
She is just so low tier for a movie I think WB would be like whatever if they had a good idea.

I'd take a legitimate Huntress though.

You probably said that about CYBORG SUPERMAN!

or not

Can they just say his face was fixed and give him red contact lenses or something? That face mask is legit terrible.

The show could also do their own spin on it and have CYBORG SUPERGIRL. CADMUS designing a cyborg verison of Kara makes more sense, they already tried to use her powers once. Could just be an advanced version of that Red Tornado thing. PLUS, they could use it to frame her and play up the alien menace narrative.

I'm kind of surprised we haven't gotten Galatea yet. Probably want to get some distance from Bizarro Girl, Red K Kara and Savitar before doing that plot.

Her character was there only to service Alex's arc. She had no real agency of her own. Can't blame the actress for wanting to move on.

I'm really not sure whether you're doing a parody. "Throwing Superman under a bus" is some next level ridiculousness. And the idea of him appearing to tell Kara she needs to be less dangerous and angry is exceptionally sexist by the way,

I forgot all about Galatea! I liked that little arc in Justice League. Well, everything except the psychic link part. But yeah, they're probably gonna sit on it since they've done doppleganger and evil Kara plots recently.

SEASON 2 is on US Netflix right now for those that want to relive the magic.

Surprised to see that season 2 of Supergirl is already up on Netflix. Didn't it just end? The last episode I saw was with Mon-El's parents coming to get him so I have a lot to watch. I see that now the guy's alien girlfriend is becoming a superhero too. Why does everyone have to be a superhero on these CW shows?

I thought it took a while for S2 of Flash to be up on there.

Ooh and right now I'm watching the episode with Maggie. Before I never got cops complaints in superhero shows about superheroes, but after watching Maggie trying to talk them down and with her counterpoints to Kara I can understand sympathize with their point of view.

It did. Previously the shows weren't being added until 22 hours before their season premiere or something silly like that. Now they go up 8 days after the season finale. So The Flash Season 3 will be up on Netflix in 2 and a half hours. Then Arrow Season 5 the day after that.

Okay, that kidnapping episode was pretty good. We all agreed that this show had some pretty shit villains, but the one in this was legit. I got emotions from it.

Oddly enough, in the comics, they're always going on about how the other members of the Superman family are stronger than Clark. Every version of Connor Kent Superboy was stronger than Superman eventually, and I'm reasonably sure what they've showed for the New 52 Jon Kent version was also up there. They recently went into the Rebirth Jon Kent.

xJdSD5T.jpg

There's a long history of Supergirl getting the boost over Superman.

Supergirl in New 52 was shown beating Superman, but that's been handwaved away as Clark knowing the full extent of his powers and thus holding back. In the case of the show, the mind control may have also dulled the finer degrees of his power.

Also, New 52 Superman was in a different class.

If this ever happen, I'd eat my shoes.
On one hand, I'd doubt DC lets someone turns a prominent character like Supergirl into a bisexual.
On the other hand, I feel they'd go easier on female characters when it comes to sexuality. They'd never turn Superman or Batman into a bisexual for example, but Harley, Black Canary, Wonder Woman... etc are okay.

They could always bring Power Girl into the show (maybe same actress) for an episode and let her play it out with Lena to avoid complicating their titled character and please some fans, but that'd be too complicated.

You're never getting Batwoman on this show.
I'll be fine with Batgirl. Maybe not Barbara, Stephanie or Cass would be nice. They can save Barbara for the movies, Gotham or something.

It will be very much like Smallville, instead of Green Arrows, bringing some mainstream attention to Batgirls.
