Zelda: Breath of the Wild "OMG I didn't know you could do that!" thread [SPOILERS]

Finally finished the game! I haven't checked my playtime but it's well over 100 hours. Almost want to save a 100% playthrough for when I get a Switch.

Just a truly outstanding game. Really, really wonderful.

Interesting interaction,

Early on in the Zora plotline they mention that Zora skin is highly shockprone and thus Zoras are afraid to touch shock arrows.

Now as for the special interaction, if you swing a weapon at any Zora they will be mad/surprised and the guards will try to knock you back. A thunder weapon on the other hand will cause the Zora to cower in fear. Works even on Sidon. Funny how they took every Zora and coded in that special shock interaction.

haha i tested this and some zoras run away screaming.

So at this point, I'm really thinking I'm going to have to leave the divine beast and pray the electric orb comes back but I try one more crazy idea. With the one orb I do have placed in its outlet bowl, I end up dropping all the metal swords, staffs and bows I have and use magneses to line them up. I ended up electrocuting myself a few times but with the first weapon in a line touching the active lightning orb and the last weapon in the line placed in the empty outlet bowl, I created a whole fucking live wire made of weapons and activated the gate. I'm still shaking.

Fucking love this game!

Thanks amazing. I love this game too.
That hanging chest on Naboris' back side though..there's no way you can cut the rope, let it fall into the ground and retrieve it later once you finish the beast, right?

Hope not. Took me three complete reloads to get it.

people probably know this, but i thought that i had to talk to impa first before i could do any divine beasts in the game, but you actually can do it, you can do all of them and then go talk to impa and she will acknowledge that you already did before talking to her. Zelda will also introduce you to the divine beasts corruption if you don't talk to impa first.

You use magnesis to make it swing like crazy, then when it's arc starts heading towards you hit the rope with an arrow and it should fall onto the platform. Just think of it like a pendulum when figuring out the timing of the arrow, it's essentially a basic momentum puzzle.

This was aluded to some extent in the thread XD

For example, in the first playthrough some us went straight to the desert to complete the first divine beast. There was a tip for people that had problems with the Yiga clan section to use stasis on blade masters to pass them by, but that wasn't an option for desert 1st people because the Slate wasn't upgraded, since you need to talk to Impa and Pourah to get the enhancement.

There are similar things that people asume are necessary when they are not: No need to change orbs for vessels ever (since Old Man wants to meet link in temple of time they tend to pray at that statue), is possible to complete all lost wood trials without touching the master sword, you don't need to talk to Zidon before reaching the Doraphen Throne room, you can totally get the Master Sword and still do a 3 heart run, etc.

On my second playthrough now, I just discovered that Beedle not only has a Customer Appreciation day where he gives you a free item, but he also has dialogue where he tells you about Robbie seemingly in case you didn't go to Impa. So he's an npc that will still nudge you to visit Robbie even if you don't follow the intended path. And he gives you an ancient arrow! I don't think I encountered any of this in my first playthrough.

So essentially not talking to Deku Tree until after completing the forest trials? That's actually pretty cool!

ah yes, when i went to zora's domain i reached it from a completely different direction and started a completely different scene with sidon, there is also other zoras that if you didn't talk to them before reaching zora's domain will also have different dialogue. If you get all shock arrows you don't even need to get them from a lynel.

There's very few things that you need to do in a certain order. I think you need to go through the yiga clan hideout before fighting master kohga, you can't reach that open area first and already fight him for example.

another neat detail is that while yiga clan members will attack you after you defeat master kohga, the fake travelers will only start to appear when you talk to impa, because as we know one of her guards worked for the yiga clan and was giving them info so they wouldn't hurt his daughters.

Are we still spoilertagging? Fireblight spoilers

Small and kind of obvious
but on the second phase of the Fireblight Ganon fight instead of throwing a bomb to disrupt his charge attack you can use your shield to parry the massive fireball thrown at you.

How?? Is it by trading Stamina vessels for Heart containers at the Hateno statue temporarily just to get the sword? I'm not sure I would count that as a "3 heart run" then.
Exactly.

i guess, if it counts as a 3 heart run or not is subjective then. i mean there's zero enemy encounters if you warp to the 2 locations. In this sense the hearts are not different than a temporary heart boost from a dish.

Also i made a mistake about the Korok trials and the master sword, as you need to make an attempt to grab it before the Korok let's Link take the trials. im sorry for my mistake, since i go from memory for most things some time it happens.

Disregard the above, i just confirmed you can do the trails without even looking at the Master Sword.

Have you tried refusing giving him a beetle when he asks for it? It's a pretty interesting bit of dialogue...

So, long-time reader, first-time poster in this thread. I'm still going through the game between work hours and other responsibilities, at 125 hours with two divine beasts restored. I noticed a cute detail last weekend that I wasn't expecting.

I found the shrine quest in the desert that took me back to Gerudo Town to the local bar. The barkeep told me she needed some ice to make the Noble Pursuit drink. I went out of town to the ice house to fetch the ice, and swapped out my vai clothes (since the defense is terrible) for my standard voe getup. At the point where I met up with the barkeep at the end of the ruins with the ice, she actually commented that I wasn't the person she was expecting to meet (since I was no longer dressed as a girl), but no matter; she wanted the ice anyway.

The game is full of such small details that make it quite a wondrous experience.

That's the way to do it. It's definitely a 3 heart run if you never fight anything or accomplish anything of significance besides getting the master sword with more than 3 hearts.

Yeah I arrived in that area first and there was nothing there.

Same thing happened with me. The developers have accounted for god damn every scenario when it comes to NPC dialogues.

Just recently finished the game and entered here for the first time... whoa.

I have a minor one which I found unintentionally and it made me smile.
It's a really small thing...

In Tarrey Town if you talk to Kapson the Zoran in front of the Inn counter:

"Link... Are you in need of a good sleep and a hearty meal?"

From behind the counter:

"Need a place to stay? If so, come speak with me at the counter."

Now, if you stand on top of his stool and talk to him:

"Ohmmm... Goddess Hyliaaaa....
Please cast your divine judgement down upon the humble servant who speaks to me from atop my furniture..."

:D

Pfff, got five shrines left and I have no idea where to look. Two of them are shrine quests..

Also, can anyone give me a hint for the location of
Mei
? Just a hint is fine :)

Never though of doing that! All shopkeepers have their unique dialogue when you stand on their tables in Tarrey Town too!

After playing 150 hours of this game and almost 400 Korok seeds in, I found a new Korok puzzle. In the Faron jungle region, there's a statue that has a mineral located on its eye. Grab it and the Korok appears!

You might want to search the lake around a large bridge.

I feel real stupid but I've searched all around
lake hylia
... Is there some kind of mission trigger before I should look?

Is that the missing Zora wife? She's on
one of the little islands in the lake
...
western side
, so technically not around the lake.

It is and I'll say that there may be a time component to this character appearing or that she spawns closer to the ground than you might expect. I
circled the islands in question from the air
and didnt find her, but warped away and back and did.

I'm about 15 hours into my 2nd playthrough now. I put around 175 hours into my first playthrough. And today, for the first time ever 2 things happened.

I found the Hebra Trailhead Lodge. Wow, I honestly thought I had discovered all the houses, camps, places-where-people-are locations in the game. Nope! Now I think there are probably more places like this I missed.

Then, there was a traveler sitting by a fire right in front of the lodge. I thought, here's an npc and he's tied to this location. So I start talking to him and he's talking about reading my fortune and it turns out its a Yiga Clan assassin! This is the first Yiga assassin in disguise who was sitting at a camp fire. I didn't even know they did that.

This game is still surprising me!

I just discovered today that horses can swim (you can't ride them while swimming though, you'll fall off). I didn't discover that in my 140 hours of play. Actually my girlfriend discovered it!

Horses are very good swimmers if they go into the water.

I rode a bear to Dueling Peaks Stable and notice that if you ride the bear near a chicken it will run away in the opposite direction with fear.

Some of the characters at the stable also react with fear.

Yeah I think it's amazing that the developers programmed reactions for the NPCs for things that normally they wouldn't encounter. I've seen a video of someone painstakingly dragging a Guardian inside Kakariko village, and the people there react in fear and run away from it.

To be fair and rain a little on this mini-parade, I think that's just a checkbox for NPCs in general because you need it for the traveling ones on the road and those at stables where you would be able to encounter enemies more naturally.

That chest is a bitch to get. I don't think so. I didn't try it. I actually managed to get it the first time with magnesis. Pulled it and let it swing and then cut the rope with my boomerang. It hit me in the damn face though and I was dumb enough to be walking around with a faction of a heart. :(

Did you find the one in Kakariko Village where you need to
shoot an arrow towards the shiekah symbol near one of the entrance
? That one is well designed since
several arrows are pinned on the symbol to serve as a hint
.

the reason it clearly cannot work with letting it fall to the ground is that the beasts are in an entirely different loading zone than the actual game world. what you see when standing on those beasts is not the world you walk around in.

Yeah, I never took the hint. I went up and got the arrows, 'cause hey, free arrows.

I just used stasis on the chest, cut the rope, and then quickly grabbed it with magnesis before the stasis ran out.

Correct, and this inconsistency sort of annoyed me.

i mean can we view it as an inconsintency? There's at least an skeleton necessary if you have a plot in place for a game, even for ones that focus less on exposition. The Yiga clan has an important part in this plot. That whole Gerudo segment with the Yiga clan is the most significant contact the player has with this plot device.

i don't see this as worse than not give the player the option to leave the plateau early.

The one i did find disapointing on the way it was handled was with Yunobo (sp?), specially after the care to detail Nintendo took with Zidon for the Zora arch.

I just used stasis on the chest, cut the rope, and then quickly grabbed it with magnesis before the stasis ran out.
This solution and the pendulon method are the ones people come up with the most. im not sure, but i think i grabbed that by manipulating the beast neck, which is probably the "intended" way... yes big quotes in there.

Played this game for hours last night. My file is currently at 220 hours. Been a while since I had last played it, but it was wonderful just roaming the world looking for Korok seeds. Posted tons of new screens in my Gerudo thread for those interested.

Corrected and edited, the assertion i made was factual.

Remember finishing with 120 Shrines and no Master Sword, so i checked back to be sure and indeed is possible to do Heroes Trial Shrines without touching the Sword or speaking with the Deku Tree.

The Korok won't give you the Trials of hero quest because he wants Link to attempt taking the sword. However to do this, you go to each Korok to get the trials. Only difference is that there's no quest markers.

no you freeze time, shoot the rope then grab it with magnesis, way easier
