Game is really good. Starts off far too slow though in the campaign so make sure you stick it out for a while.

What is the best thing to spend money on to begin with?

I suppose that depends on your machine preferences.

Heard good things about twin belters. Heavier, more tactical banshees HMGs. Keen to strap them onto the Zöllig tonight.

How're you finding the controls?

sucked it up and went keyboard and mouse haha. Realised depth of aiming is critical in this game pretty quickly. Have crouch and reload on mouse hotkeys atm so just WASD and stomp on the keyboard. WIll keep playing around til I'm satisfied

Controls well and I suppose more like a cockpit than a controller.

I played the hell out of this a few months ago, god it is so damn great. Everything about this game feels good. This is the game I dreamed of back in the 16 bit era.

I had no idea a relaunch was coming, gonna sink some more time into this and spread the word a bit.

Had put some time into this before, but started playing it again thanks to the upgrade, and it definitely clicked this time with me. The environmental destruction is so so satisfying. There's nothing more gratifying than shooting a weapon that tears through an entire row of house in a single shot, leaving debris and flying shrapnel in its wake, or unleashing dual machine guns in a sweeping arc that shreds everything

Game deserves far more attention than it's received thus far. I've already put 53 hours(!!) into the game, and it's still something I plan on revisiting on a regular basis just for some sweet tactical vehicular combat action. There is, literally, nothing else quite like it on the planet. It scratches an itch that I've always felt needed to be scratched but never had a proper game for.

The fact that the devs will have to stop supporting it soon-ish to work on their next game because of a lack of funding makes me damn sad. I wish they got at least FTL-tier success so they could work on an expansion instead.

Please give them some funding, GAF. They deserve it!

TFW 30+ million in funeral costs because you didn't notice the BOMBUCHA at the spaceport :(
Yep, game is brutally unforgiving when bombs are on the field. Bombuchas in particular will end your runs instantly if you can't keep them under control.

The same thing goes for heavy artillery, mind you. Those slow-ass projectiles aren't just for show.

Come to think of it, I wonder if they've done anything to the infamous level where you have to dodge Bombuchas to get your ammo or find an alternative way to kill the target...

Really hope support comes and they can add more to the game. A chrome hounds or versus like mp mode would be neat.

Buying Thursday on payday.

And you've got a horn, too. To either kite enemies, or be an arsehole and keep it jammed on.

Didn't even know this game existed until I saw this thread pop up yesterday. Took a chance and bought it based off of that alone. So far so good. I've only done the first few campaign missions so still getting a handle on the controls but they seem to be working well. It's a great feeling when you've got your shots lined up just right to splatter the little guys running around on the map. Especially when it's firing off just the one or two rounds of ammunition to do it.

The missions so far are pretty short which works in its favour because it means I can dip in and out at will when I feel like blasting something.

It's a game I didn't even know I wanted. Like, I don't have much experience with isometric shooters. The most I've ever done is messed around with the Postal demo for a while. Looking forward to digging in to it some more.

I've been wanting something like this ever since play Future Cop LAPD to death on PS1 back in the day at a friend's place. I wish there was more stuff like this.

There's a ridiculous amount of machine, primary and secondary weapon combinations. There feels like negligible to no overlap. You can go MGs to shred, howitzer + long-range rifle to clear terrain before getting accurate...it's just a question of experimenting and going with what works for you. Heavy treads, big leg units, swift AGs, nimble battlesuits and bonsai walkers...all fun to experiment with. Freelance is mechanised Spelunky.

Good news so far: the game's ownership according to Steamspy has shot up over five times the amount it had before the relaunch as of June 4th. Pretty positive news, and possibly the break the dev team really needs at this point. I hope it just keeps on rising!

Yep! The variety is incredible, easily comparable (if not superior) to what you'd see in, say, a Battletech game. There's no chaff at all - since the game eschews normal progression systems in lieu of just unlocking stuff, everything has its own niche and role to play.

Eventually you'll probably find some things you really like and stick with over the long haul. I, for example, have found myself drawn to light and medium tanks, with the Betushka being a particular favorite of mine. Equipped with a cloaking device, a 'Bully' laser, and a 'Lockdown' machine gun, the tiny little thing basically becomes a sweet little assassin tank, capable of downing hard targets in seconds from behind. It's endlessly amusing to me to watch the thing burn down massive enemy fire teams. It doesn't look like it should even be capable of that sort of thing, and yet it is!

The whole thing is brilliant and keeps me coming back for more. Admittedly, I do wish there was some kind of vertical progression system in the game, but at the same time I can easily live without it when the core gameplay is so well-executed and the variety of possible loadouts is so huge. I just want more of those vehicles made playable!

Awesome, hopefully this puts some wind in their sails. I'm definitely going to recommend this game to friends.

How much do they get from Humble though? Owners numbers going up is good, but I fear they're not making revenue equivalent to that due to the sales and being part of Humble Monthly

Glad to hear they'll be able to work on a new game, though. I was worried this game bombing was going to force them to close up shop

Yeah, I wouldn't be able to speak for how much that converts to revenue. Regardless, I expect those numbers should continue to rise for awhile yet, especially if positive word of mouth gets around (as it should - game is effin' brilliant). Pretty bemusing to see the PCCU count go from the single-digit-to-low-10s mark to 400+ for four days straight!

Also of interest, the dev Boss Tweed posted this screenshot of a vehicle spreadsheet on the Steam discussion forums, which serves as a lovely preview for the vehicles that are going to be made playable down the pipe. The actual names are blurred out, but you can pretty easily guess which vehicles those are from the information given (faction, loadout, and vehicle class). There sure are a lot of agravs in that list...!

This game is really dope. I've got about 3 hours in and am having a blast.

Definitely feels like a spiritual successor to the old Strike games which I loved.

Just wanna say, after buying that upgrade DX pack the other day in the sale, I've been listening to the soundtrack non-stop.

Incredible stuff.

Just picked this up, pretty damn interesting, the controls... less so. which control scheme are you guys finding the most user friendly?

This has been wonderful with my Steam controller.

Hadn't used it in so long the membrane or something is fucked as my face buttons want to stay depressed and slowly rise back up.

Man, oh man, I wish they add workshop and user-created levels for missions. I thought it had procedural levels generated, but seems to be set.

Blowing shit up feels so amazing, especially hitting a gas line and causing a chain reaction of explosions.

I do wish the free-lance missions had more variety though. Yeah, I can pick and choose what objectives to complete, but I'm mostly compelled to do as many as possible.

Quick note that once you're comfortable with the controls, up the game speed to 100% - commit war crimes at maximum efficiency

I finally had a chance to play this, and it's god damn amazing. I've gotta assume that the default control scheme in the new edition really reduces the barrier to entry, as I've not really felt they've ever gotten in the way or that the game is too difficult. That being said, the tutorial missions are pretty boring, so I can see people losing interest before they get to the good stuff. I hope the devs ended up financially alright after the relaunch and everything.

It's crazy how little this game was talked about relative to its quality. It's honestly probably the biggest discrepancy between quality and the level of general internet chatter you'd expect based on said quality I've personally seen.
