Assassin's Creed: Origins Gold Edition pre-order cards at Target, detail contents

Origins is seriously the worst name. I probably sound like a broken record, but it's seriously so bland and forgettable.

I like most of the AC games (only the first and III are the ones I actively disliked; I'm enough of a francophile and waited until the patches were out to play through Unity, mind), with AC2 and Ass Bro as my faves, but even liking the last game...I still kinda don't miss it.

I'll probably buy it after we get the all-clear on the day one bugs, etc, but I'm excited about another as I was for ME Andromeda.

I miss the old name.

Assassin's Creed Empire is way cooler.

No, because Origins has a double meaning : it's set in Antiquity, kind of the "origins" of our societies (an era never explored in the main games) and plans to reveal the origins of the Assassins (meta-story Wise). Maybe a triplicate meaning : going back to the origins of the series in terms of gameplay.

"Big" History / Meta-story / Gameplay : it's smart ; at the opposite Empire says little and they always have subtitles with a meaning that makes you identify something (despite them sounding average most of the time)

Judging from the cover, looks like bow, eagle, and shield(?) will be part of the game.

I imagine the bow will replace the rope gun from Syndicate and the Eagle might help serve as Eagle Vision or something. No idea if it's actually a shield or not.

Hopefully they took a long look at the combat. Returning the setting back to the far past also helps.

The game is rumoured to be Witcher 3-inspired as far as the player progression and "free-form" combat systems are concerned. I'd imagine the goal was to make combat encounters appropriately challenging when facing multiple or particularly tough opponents, which has never really been the case in previous AssCreed games beyond the original -- and even it offers an easy way out by way of well-timed hidden blade counters.

Oh man! HYPE!

I hope there are some Pyramid temple platforming puzzles and the character development is good! Happy they took some time off!

Bring it on.

Finished Syndicate yesterday after doing 3/BF/Rogue/Unity last year and the previous ones on release day.

Ready for more, it rarely feels more of the same when context varies this much.

These things were in some of the leaks we discussed in former threads

The sphinx is pissing me off. It's facing the wrong way.

Excited for the announcement though! Feel ready for some more Assassin's Creed.

It was the case with Unity, they pretty much changed everything, and people complained that it was too slow, too difficult, too boring. Syndicate combat system was much closer to the combo/rythym choregraphy it was before.

I am interested, I think the AC work best with older / ancient civilization, original AC setting and the Ezio trilogy are still my favourites.

Unity is more of a half-step in that regard, I feel -- combat encounters are more challenging, certainly, but not as challenging as they should be. If Ubi has indeed taken cues from CDPR on combat encounter design, then it's probably safe to say that Origins will deliver on that front. The comparison is apt: Geralt's mutation-augmented abilities don't exactly make him a demigod and neither should a honed assassin skillset.

Definitely looks real but it doesn't have Ubi's new logo. That said it's very possible these were printed before the change was made, given how recent it is.

please dont be store exclusive preorder missions. I thought they were done with that. Or does that just mean the gold edition comes with that mission?

It looks interesting. Origins has turned into a video game word:

Batman: Arkham Origins
Raymond Origins
Dragon Age Origins
X-Men Origins
Marvel vs Capcom Origins
Resident Evil Origins
Condemned Criminal Origins
Baten Kaitos Origins

No that is not proof lol. This is almost guaranteed to be ms marketed ala unity but we shall see. I am surprised we haven't seen a teaser. I guess ms wants to be the first to show off the game on stage

I am so hyped for this. I love Assassin's Creed and I love Egypt mythology.

I am going to order the really expensive Edition of this game.

Man, I am stoooooked for this game. Ubi continues to go to utilize settings that just aren't often touched in videogames, especially in the triple-A space.

Hello, my name is Yves Guillemot, Vivendi S.A.'s Employee of the Month!
You don't know that though... The origins of the assassin's were in AC1 not Egypt.
They were around LONNNNGGGG before AC1. And their order's origins were never explicitly revealed. AC1's plot certainly wasn't about their origins. There are records of events going back as far as 465 BCE.

The Greco-Roman Pantheon have been the primary representatives of the Precusors in the franchise thus far. I think their point being that being so far into the past, one might perhaps more directly confront the ancient side of the lore.
I'm wondering if they're gonna acknowledge the crazy shit happening in the comics.

Call my a cynic, but I genuinely wonder if the year off will have actually added anything.

Revelations is pretty bad too, and AC ticked that one off some time ago :p

I'm really in the mood of AC again, haven't looked forward to one this much since AC3. Also I just watched the movie and found it to be moderately enjoyable, looked stunning on UHD.

Hopefully they took a long look at the combat. Returning the setting back to the far past also helps.

I have been saying since 2009 that they should just straight-up copy the Arkham combat system. It was serviceable in AC2/ACB and somehow just got worse and worse.

I'm wondering if they're gonna acknowledge the crazy shit happening in the comics.

Didn't even know there were comics, what's the rough gist of it?
