I offered an alternative explanation why they haven't done it, and why they announced so early in the first place, and based on that why it's not a given that they will disclose the details even today -- even though after the Keighley thread, that last part seems moot.

It's pretty odvios why MS would leak the price. They do not want the repeat of the Xbone press conference. This way people alredy know that it will cost 500 before the conference and forget all about it when they see the games. It's strategic.

Scorpio being $500 puts even more pressure on them to deliver games, and people are not very optimistic about them either. If the show is about what people already expect (CD3, SoT, Ori2, Forza7, SoD2) a cheaper Scorpio could turn the tide back in their favour, and with $499 they don't have this trump card anymore.

This reveal really killed my hype, not gonna lie. $499 is going to turn into a small fortune in my country, scorpio is out of my reach by that price. now i'm just sad and waiting for one or two indie reveals to play on my OG xbox1

I hear what you are saying but Phil did say they expected the Xbox One S to still be their best seller. That this was a premium product. A $399 surprise would be great for those hoping for that like yourself, i just want them to bring a few genuine surprises in the games department, I feel the long term fans passions deserve that.

Not weird at all. Geoff makes a living managing expectations upwards. Hyping stuff that he thought impressed him, lowering expectations on stuff that he knew would not be a hit with audiences. PR companies do this all the time. Geoff is just trying to let us down softly. Nothing fishy about it at all. There is nothing to gain from us all acting like it is some conspiracy.

...that would be cheaper than the standalone box. MS would never consider that. Make it $199 down and maybe that is more realistic. Going back to their subsidizes model as an option would be a great idea for them though.

Wasn't there a rumor or something a while back about MS working aggressively with GameStop on trade in promos for Scorpio? Maybe they can be aggressive on that front?

Well if the price is $500, I'm glad I'm working instead of watching live. All my hype has drained. I don't think MS will offset this blow by having games, cause honestly what do they have that isn't the same? Forza 7 leaked, Ori 2 leaked, Halo will likely be another bullshit teaser that's nothing like the go so game like last time. I am defeated my dudes...
