Monster Hunter: World (PS4/XB1 early 2018, PC later, directed by MH4 lead planner)

After the reveal, just about all of the people I follow that love Monster Hunter, all either in US or EU, were practically posting "Fuck Switch" the entire night after the reveal of World, mainly because it looks better than XX.

If the MH community doesn't want it on Switch, what's the point of localizing it?

No shit a ground up PS4 game looks better than a 3DS port. I'm not trying to turn this into a Switch thread, but from the sounds of it the Switch is getting it's own MH game too so I don't know why the series also being on console, which it has historically been on on NUMEROUS occasions, is something for people to suddenly get up in arms over

From what I remember about the post that leaked XX: This was funded partially by Sony, the contract specifically stated that it couldn't be on Switch but didn't mention anything about XBO/PC. Also the rumor stated that this would be called MH5 and the Switch game in development would be Monster Hunter Portable.

Now it looks like that Capcom is marketing this as a spinoff rather than a mainline title though. MH for the Switch will probably be the proper "MH5".

Is there actually any difference in terms of gameplay/mechanics between main/spinoff?

So do bowguns just not need to be reloaded anymore? And what is up with them letting you move and shoot?

What's the problem if you can move and shoot?? They can enhance the gameplay and start to allow that, thankfully. You're nitpicking stuff...

Bowgun was really held back by being on one stick handhelds, but this is weird. Hmmmmm. We'll see.

And I'm talking about the western community. It's stupid to say the significant crowd that bought the 3DS games doesn't want the direct continuation of those games.
I'm sure the community would prefer to play the games in 1080p with new textures rather than a 240p screen.

Or do they prefer the 3DS over both Switch and PS4?
Somehow I doubt the vast majority of the MH community will turn their backs on traditional MH, so your question probably isn't too relevant.

They would if they got a new version that has better textures.

Huh , not sure if its just me (and my traveling route) but i do see Teenagers and adults playing on Buses and MRT (This is also true when i travel overseas). The worst are those who play on a crowed MRT in SG , i dont know how that can enjoy the game and they are blocking people path.

Weird. I'll say in the past year or so I've seen maybe 2 people playing 3DS and 1 person playing a Switch. All adults!

That's the one good thing in the trailer. Swimming was a great addition that never should have left the series.

Only 5 people liked underwater combat in Tri. I guess you're one of them.

It was so poorly received they got rid of it and never looked back. Maybe they can bring it back with better controls and movement.

ouch

Imagine if this was called MH 5? Now that would cause some salt

The monhun 4 trailer reminded me how little we know about this entry in this trailer.
The MH4 trailer was a concept trailer for a game that would be released 2 years later.

The MHW trailer is actual gameplay and not a concept, the game is also coming out in 9 months or so.

Ranged weapons have always been balanced around the fact that you need to stay still and shoot. With the ability to move and shoot they're going to have to drastically lower the damage they do (which would make them feel like peashooters and not very fun IMO) or the game will be broken with them.

To be fair, the monsters weren't all that flashy in MH1. Colors were very muted in Gen 1.

I also hate how the Brachydios looks.

I came in in third gen, and I loved the balance of fantastical and realistic. I still adore Lagiacrus and Qurupeco for their aesthetic.

Yes, stuff like Brachydios is silly and with Generations and XX you started to see Frontier over the top stuff creep in, but I would take colorful and fantastical over a T-Rex with fuzz.

That rumor floating around doesnt make sense.

If Sony is partially funding this then why would they allow it on Xbox and Pc?

I want XX. It's a game I know I will like and has the shit I enjoy. I also enjoy MonHun on portable and I love as much of the series I can get. Like, even if this is good I don't want them to leave any games behind. That's not a crazy idea. Graphics are far from everything. If I was super into graphics above all in the first place, I wouldn't have picked up monster hunter.

As someone who loves monhun i can say it looks great.

There are some more modern things im not 100% on, but it still seems like monhun to me.

I will agree with the one thing that I actually legit liked without reservation was swimming.

Swimming kicked ass, you people were just soft

These fans get upset that they are removing clunky parts of the games. Monster Hunter has historically had some of the worst controls in gaming ever lol but now it looks like we are finally good

Why would Sony pay for it to not come to one console, but okay it for Xbox, their main competitor as for as audience interest?

IDK, that was the rumor I remember, and it seems most of it is turning out correct so far. Maybe, as someone said here, this game is virtually a PS4 exclusive in Japan because of the small XBO install base, where they can expect most of the sales and it's a great marketing win for Sony in Japan against Nintendo. But again, this is not called MH5 so who knows...

Well for me, I travel a lot and play MH with my friends locally. So while I do want this I really hope handheld MH doesn't die

Seems you and others prefer handhelds due to your lifestyle. But none have actually explained what's fundamentally better about the game itself. Is it graphics, controls game design?

Loved swimming in MH3! And the underwater combat.

Seriously in my book ever since the Wii game MH3 which was the peak, the frabchise has gone downhill. Hopefull this rights that ship. Looks good so far.

Can't tell if this is like a fast travel system or if it's more of a pre-baked way for players to join another player (flare seems to signal for others to join?)
